Ive put lots of miles on the Torin 5 and 6 and I felt like the 6 got too narrow so I switched to the Escalante. Happy to see the 7 is a little more comfortable again. Still doesn't have a big toe box anymore, but it is very comfortable. We just had our first baby and these have been incredible shoes for all our walks/runs.

I was pleasantly surprised by the new Torin 7. I typically run in the Escalante Racer for the responsiveness and find that the normal Escalante is too soft. The Torin will be my recovery day shoe.

Shoe feels good and responsive underfoot while not being too soft, the upper is comfortable and light. Overall a very good shoe for from walking and standing to daily running.

Note: I received this shoe for free to test and write a review. About me: Male, 5'10, 175lbs, age 25-30, 2-4 mile runs, daily crossfit classes Comparing to Torin 6 (which I purchased last year): Size: Torin 7 is decently larger, most notably TALLER (+2mm in stack height) Fit: about the same as Torin 6. Toebox is roomy as expected Tongue: a little softer and more forgiving than Torin 6, but it was not bad in the 6 for me Collar (heel): more aggressively raked in the 7, but I found the 6 was comfortable enough and did not rub achilles for me Collar (side): I found the sides to be stiffer than the 6, and dug into ankle a bit on un-even ground. Might be something that improves over time Feel: "squishier" than the 6. I'm not a fan, but if you are then this is good for you! I spend more time in the Escalante and use Torin for long runs (especially on hard ground), workouts involving running with weighted vests (like Murph), and long competition races (like Hyrox). TLDR: Torin 7 has some slight improvement and some slight detriment to the 6, based on my preferences. Once my 6's wear out, I would sooner explore a "medium" cushion option (the Rivera I guess?) than buying the Torin 7 because of the increased stack height, but, because I got a pairs of 7's for free, I'll keep using them.

The tongue is fixed. The sole is improved softness but keeps its bounce. The toe spring is not my personal preference but other people may like it. The upper material is consistent and great. Usually if you're not noticing features, that's a good thing so you can focus on the running. The miss: The heel! Why would they make a square shaped shoe. By that I mean, the wide toe box should allow for natural toe splay while the the heel needs to remain tight enough the hold the foot in place. By making a wide heel, they've gone away from the great shapes of Altra shoes and make it like any other wide shoe on the market. Why!!?

The upgrades to the midsole and especially the tongue fit are spectacular.

I've worn Altras since the beginning - before they were even a company. I've worm every shoe and I love them because of the toe width and zero drop. The last set of Torins I bought squeak extremely loudly and I've tried everything but I can't get them to stop. It's deep inside the sole somewhere. I'm going to see if Altra will return/exchange and try again.

Good shoe. Have gotten a bit more narrow over the last two models. The regular price of your shoes makes them unaffordable. They cost over 50 cents per mile. I can only wear your shoes - which indeed are the most comfortable and functional I have found for running with my body and style - because I buy the old model on some deal or timing of an extreme sale. So the 7 model I bought I will not use for up to another year. I am a casual once or twice a week runner. I purchased the 7 model after the release of the 8 model, and yet I'm still just 100 miles into my 6 model. So.any review by me of the actual shoe and its performance will be useless and irrelevant because I will run them while the model 9 or even 10 has been released.

I really wanted to like these, but the outside is cut too high and hits my ankle bone, which is uncomfortable. If I focus on forefoot contact (I'm a heel striker) it's better. But cornering hurts. Short runs are OK, but concerned about trying a long run

Leading off with I am not a runner, just a fitness enjoyer. My first Altra shoe was the Torin 5 luxe, which were great and I wore them until they fell apart. When purchasing my next Altra shoe I wanted to try something more rigid, instead of the soft stretchy material. Based on the reviews and the website fit description I decided on the Torin 7. This shoe fit true to size and is definitely standard width as said on the webpage. Thank you Altra for shipping APO, it saved me mid deployment. The cushioning on the Torin 7 felt great on my knees. Over miles of running and numerous workouts the shoes have held up well. The sole material has held up minus some abrasions from concrete and rocks. My only personal complaint is they didn't fit my heel too well. After a month I noticed a hole in the material at the heel and the cushioning was coming out. I'm now a couple months into using this shoe and the holes have gotten larger and more cushioning is gone. There is discomfort when wearing the shoes now but it's not enough to halt my workouts. I won't be purchasing this model again, I'll be looking for a model that fits my heel better. Minus my heel issue it's a good overall, all around shoe.

these feel like they have a 10mm offset. doesn't feel zero drop to me like the Escalante. buy Escalante if you want a real zero drop.

The fit is certainly narrower than the Torin 5s (the first pair of shoes that didn't give me any foot pain). After almost 300 miles, these still make my foot cramp up every run. I will probably try to go for the wide versions next time.

Seemed smaller than other shoes and did not seem wider toe box, but this was my first attempt so maybe this brand is not for me or I still need wide.

Comfortable but feels unstable underfoot sometimes. Biggest issue is the cuff is so stiff, it often leaves the outside of my ankle in pain for a week or more after even moderate runs.

Really enjoying my 25mi weeks with this new comfortable road runner. Unfortunately the new heel counter design does dig into my outside ankle bones whenever I either walk or am on any lateral grade.

I wore these for about 60 miles and they started breaking down at the mesh vents. The breakdown was all over the shoe, even on the top where no strain is placed on the shoe. Altra would not replace.

sneakers have little room for a thumb in height, the upper fabric of the cross-stitch constantly presses on top of the nail, which is very uncomfortable, there was no such problem with 6

I've bought this shoe for years but I can't anymore. The only time I would recommend this shoe is when it's on sale. The fit is amazing, I love the looks, but they just do not last. I've been really disappointed by the quality of the shoe and it makes me doubt what's going on over at manufacturing. Within a month I got the first tear, shortly after on both shoes on the outer sides they have torn. I've started to look into new brands all because of quality issues. This issue has increased slowly but surely over the years.

Comfortable shoes however the toe box feels too wide after about 2 weeks of wear. The colors to choose from for men aren't very appealing either. I don't think I would buy again.

2 years post stroke. Exercise is crucial to recovery. From stroke my toes on right foot want to grip ground so I bought these shoes based on Dr advice. Wide toe box helps tremendously. Shoes are comfortable with good support. I also have high arch and flat bottom is perfect. Now the negative: shoe strings continually come loose or untied. My balance issues make correcting this on walks a bit touchy. Please find laces that hold and don't work loose easily. I walk about 5 miles a day avg plus 2 hours a day in gym.

I *LOVE* wearing these shoes now that they're worn in. I had the same issues with the sides digging into my ankle bone that others have mentioned, but that went away after a couple weeks. These were recommended online and by the Al's salesperson for correcting plantar fasciitis, and (after suffering with the PF for 9 months) they did the job! I wish that were the end of the story Unfortunately, the shoe uppers have fallen apart while there's still plenty of tread left on the sole. It started with cracks in the upper fabric VERY early on. I tried requesting help two times from customer service and never heard back. The salesperson at Al's confirmed that it's a known issue with the Torin 7s and that they are supposed to have fixed it with the next gen shoe. We'll see Then, the inner lining started falling apart. First the heel and then the sides I'm still wearing them on walks because they're so comfortable, and there's still plenty of tread, but I can't lie I'm disappointed that they fell apart and that I've been ghosted by the service team.

These fit great out of the box. After 2 months, they started tearing at the areas where they bend. The heal tab collar lining really digs into both sides of my ankle and had to try to bend back those areas, but just started wearing thicker socks.

I really wanted to like these shoes and they do feel great, but after 2 months they're starting to tear and the heel tab (Achilles notch) digs into both ankles and makes walking/running uncomfortable.

Comfortable shoes that are not durable. I’m not a runner and these inside heel of these (and other Altras I’ve had) starts to wear in 2 months. The fabric starts to tear in small areas on the same timeframe. Disappointing.

The Torin line (I've had iterations 6 and 7) is one of my favorites for running and general use. That is, while they last. Both pairs have literally started falling apart inside 4-6 weeks of wear.
