The color is too redish and the contrast between red and crimson is too high.

Didn’t care for the jacket so I returned it. Was also unhappy with Zappos as they sent me the wrong jacket originally. I completely different LL Bean jacket that I then had to go through the process of returning by calling customer service. They use Amazon but the return process does not compare. Not overly thrilled with Zappos. Probably why I returned the jacket to be honest. I feel as if I should have been given a discount for my troubles. Next time I’ll wait for LL Bean to restock.

Received as gift 2 years ago. Was very warm in cold weather. Surprising at the warmth in the lighweight coat.
However, wear and tear/durability leaves a lot to be desired. Noticed some white fuzz around bottom of coat near zipper. Discovered small tear and sewed it up. Just came in from snowblowing my driveway. Went to brush some snow off coat and discovered snow was down. Looking closer it revealed a 1.5 in and a 1 in tear in the bottom two sections of the lining again near the front of the coat. Coat was a little damp but not really near anything sharp. Appears that when wet that the material becomes very fragile.
Disappointing in that this is a LLBean brand jacket that received very little wear last year due to illness and as stated was a gift only 2 years ago. I still have Bean jackets like Baxter State Park jackets that are decades old.

Its a good jacket for 40-50 degree weather, and I particularly like the hood. But it is no good for weather colder than that, which is what I was hoping for.

Found the jacket not warm enough for the Maine weather.

Sizing is very tight! In retrospect, I should have ordered the next size up. But it does fit. I think it more like a sweater than a jacket. In other words, if you order to size, don't think of wearing it over anything.

I found the jacket, while warm, to be rather bland in terms of styling, as well as boxy when it comes to the fit. Also, the zippers felt plastic and cheap. I'm sure this coat does a great job keeping people warm, but it was just an OK look for me. Returned it before using it.

This is a nice warm jacket and the reason for my rating is the exterior fabric is prone to tearing. Mine has several tears that I had to fix with fabric tape.

The jacket is super warm, you don't feel any cold inside at all. But the worst part is the material with the jacket is made is poor. It got torn from two different places in just a month. (Car door edge cut it both the time, and I manually felt the edge it is not sharp at all.) But good part is L.L.Bean replaced the jacket, but replacement is made with the same material so I am not sure how long it will last.

It's too bad, I really loved this jacket. The fit in the tall size is excellent, and the jacket feels very premium, at least as nice as the other high end offerings from competitive brands.
The zipper is very high quality and easy to use, the hood is excellent, it provides good warmth around your neck with the zipper all the way up, or hangs away without overheating you if you leave the zipper down a bit. The adjustment cords in the hood allow you to get the fit just right.
It's not as warm as I thought it would be, given how puffy it feels compared to some other jackets. It is definitely warm, but dont expect the cells to be super full of down.
This brings me to the downside: The down migrates. Now I know this can happen with down, but there's something about the cell design, and the down they use here or something because within 3 or 4 wears from new, the down completely migrated out of the underarms and back/chest area near the arms. Without any down there, the super thin shell fabric transmits the cold right onto you. Even with my arms down, there is a ring of noticeable cool/cold all around where the arm meets the main jacket, put your arms up and well, forget about it. I actually exchanged this jacket for the same model in the same size, thinking that it was just a one-off issue, the new one had down well distributed in those zones, but after a couple of wears, those areas are completely empty. You can kind of massage some of the down back in there but it's gone again in a wear or two.
It's really a shame because this was by far the best fitting down puffy jacket I've found for my size, and it checks ALL my other boxes, but I won't keep a $250 jacket that is toasty warm in some spots and just chilly in others.

Received Jacket yesterday. We live in Arizona and the day it arrive the weather to test the warmth of the jacket arrived the same day. Found the jacket very light weight not what I was expecting. Expected something a bit more packed with fill to meet what i expected a rating 850 would provide. What arrive was a jacket (well built) but something I will need to wear along with other warm clothing to retain core heat. If you're expecting something a bit more bulkier this jacket isn't it. I own a Northface jacket rated at 700 and I can wear it with a long sleeve shirt and be quite warm in mid teens temperatures.
As far as sizing, used the sizing chart and ordered at Tall Large. The jacket fits but wearing layering clothing under the jacket will make it a tight fit. Recommend ordering a size larger if you layering.

The jacket is well made but not enough down filling. Will not keep you warm down to what they claim. Good for layering, but not alone for much warmth.

The jacket is just ok.
It is really not meant fo rthe cold weather.
It is too thin and light but it is ok for fall weather no colder than 40 degrees.
If I could do it again I would not get this jacket.
It is not very durable either. It rips very easily.

I bought this jacket last year. Unfortunately, it has a fatal flaw. There is no drawcord around the face so in windy conditions, air blows around the hood resulting in uncomfortable cold. Please also note that it runs large. Definitely not an athletic fit. Wish it were better designed.

Would not recommend as the down count of 850 seems like it would be warm but it is not - anything under 45 degrees and I find it does not keep me warm. I had an 800 jacket from another company and it could be worn all winter. Definitely need to replace this coat.

Just received this last week and upon trying on in the house, I liked it. The picture on line looks puffy warm and I wanted something to keep me warm at 30 degrees. I thought the 850 down fill would do the trick, however, when I went outside on a 40 degree evening I didn't think it would keep me warm for an extended time outside standing still. I'm somewhat disappointed with Bean's new temperature rating, as this is rated for "warmer" and I don't know what that means. I like a number... had I known it wouldn't keep me warm at temperatures in the 30's I wouldn't have bought it. With that said, I like the jacket, so I'll keep it knowing it's good only down to about 45 degrees. Regretfully, I'll now have to shop for another "warmest?" temp rating.

Good: Keeps core warm and is light. Pockets are good quality.
Bad: I thought the colors were navy blue and orange trim from looking on the website, but is navy blue and red trim, which I do not think looks that good.
Wrist cuffs are too loose and lets a lot of air up the arm.
The llbean primaloft jacket seems like a better deal in these 2 regards, tightercuffs and navy blue and orange trim colors.
This jacket sheds too many feathers inside and outside. When I wear a dark shirt underneath, it gets covered in feathers. My 2018/19 LL Bean UL 850 Down jacket (non-hooded) has never and still does not do this.
Conclusion: I returned this 2024/25 850 down hooded jacket. I will still wear my 2018/19 llbean UL 850 non-hooded down jacket.
It seems quality has dropped with LL Bean; when I returned to the store, I looked at other down jackets on the wall, the down sweater and primaloft jacket and saw similar issues. It seemed they also were shedding lots of feathers and had loose seam threads throughout. My new northface thermoball 2.0 hooded jacket is cheaper, is warm, has tighter cuffs, fits well, is light and packable, does not shed (not down), or have loose threads anywhere, but pockets are not as good as llbean.

My husband is enjoying to the fullest his early Christmas present, the Ultralight 850 & has worn it everyday after receiving it. Deep coat pockets & loves the outside breast pocket for his phone!
Great hood for cold, rainy days, easy zip.

I loved this jacket when I tried it on in the store. When we ordered it online, however, the sleves were very long..maybe 3 inches longer...Made it a no go. Too bad.

This jacket was a bit of a disappointment. Bought it for Christmas at a reasonable price. I'm a bigger guy and found that a XXL ran small. It was tight with wearing a sweatshirt underneath and find that the material is too light. I wouldn't trust it out in subzero weather. A BIG disappointment for me.

Built well but half a size small vs other stores with similar coats. I am a bigger guy and this just didn't fit. Had to return.

Love the color, style, fit of the coat. Wish I could keep it. But, I returned it because it is NOT windproof as described. I think the wind was only 10 mph, but the wind went right through it, and my 3 layers under it! I walked around our block and was cold the whole time. Then I went in and added a wind breaker as a layer, under the coat, and walked around again and that helped a lot. But, for this much money, and with the description saying it was windproof, I expected a lot more.

Warmth rating is wrong. Does not keep you warm even in mid-30 temps.
