Oh LL Bean, you let me down with this one. I have an older version of this jacket from several ago, and I love it so much, that I wanted to get a new one. Unfortunately, this new model is not as soft and comfortable as the old one. And the real deal-breaker for me is the hood. The old hood has an elastic fit and just conforms right to my bald head, keeping all the cold out. This one has a draw cord and just doesn't keep my head as snug and warm. Sorry, I had to return and just keep my old one!

I was told this was a replacement for the LL Bean coat I already had for a few years. It is nowhere near as warm. Maybe a Fall and early Spring coat, but not for the winter. Otherwise quality is real good as one would expect from LL Bean.

It's a good jacket, but the material is thin and rips. I've bought this coat 2 times and have had to buy a replacement coat because it's ripped again.

Seems thinner than my last 850. Doesn't seem as warm. I'm thinking of returning it for another model. Can I return it for that reason?

Good lightweight liner. Too thin to be called a jacket. Ideal for fall or spring or cool summer evenings. I've been looking for an 850 fill down jacket forever, without any luck. This was not it. Very nice hooded light jacket, but not something to wear in cold weather. My search continues.

This jacket is great looking and the fit for me is perfect. The hood is also nice as it fits the way it should. However, I am greatly disappointed in the warmth this jacket provides. It does feel like it's windproof but for top of the line down fill and at the selling price, it does not keep me warm. I wore this for the first few times when the temperature outside was in the mid 30s with a light wind. It did not keep me warm. I had to resort to wearing an LLBean Fleece jacket underneath which greatly added to the warmth. However, I would expect this type jacket to be more than adequate with mid 30s temperatures without having to wear an additional layer. I would expect to need additional layers on days with temps in the 20s and below. When the jacket arrived it was flat with very little "puffing" of the down. I placed it in the dryer on low with dryer balls and it did puff it up somewhat but not enough. But my opinion is for this price there should be much more fill which would keep me warm. I'm going to keep the jacket as it is good for fall weather with a layer but I will not be able to wear this in the dead of winter except as an under layer.

Really good attempt at the perfect down hoody, but needs work. It has one internal drop pocket on one side, but the jacket has two sides, why not two drop pockets inside? The baffles in the hood are rather large and seem to allow the down to flatten out, could they be smaller baffles and therefore maintain the puff? Do we really need the LLBean logo printed on the left front top and the center top back? I believe this style has been discontinued, so I hope it is for improvements and not lack of interest. It has the potential to be the greatest! Large Tall is sized very well.

I was really interested in this jacket but the contrasting zipper on the navy color was just too much.

Not sure it is suitable for the purpose purchased for. I bought it for cold weather walking and hiking. It keeps me warm, but it gets very wet. from inside out. Not sure how long it will maintain its insulation quality. it is excellent as a warm coat for light walking and standing around. Very packable

I really like the jacket, but to tight fit. Tight in the armpits makes me uncomfortable wearing it.

This was purchased a year and a half ago. Love the weight, fit and protection. BUT . as others have written, it started to suddenly develop small holes- the count is now five in places that aren't stressed. Feathers coming out in tiny holes. Very disappointing. Considering the price, I will not purchase one of these again.

I love the 850 jacket. This is the second one I have purchased. Light weight, but very warn. The problem I have is the fabric is so thin that it seems to snag on everything. My old jacket had dozens of snags and my new one snagged the first week. Improve the material please.

The clerk in the store said this was their warmest jacket (850 down). Took it home and put it on that evening in 30F and about as warm as a sweatshirt. Not really surprised as it had little to no loft. Returned it.

I bought this jacket when we had single digit temperatures but since I got it, we've had temperatures in the 30s and 40s so I can't really rate it yet.

I bought this to replace an older version of this same jacket that has a couple tears in the fabric. The old jacket is about 8 years old. I definitely like the new version. It's very similar overall and fits the same in terms of size. It is lightweight, the arms move well, it's very comfortable, and the material seems like it will hold up better than my old jacket. The negative side is that the old version, which also shows 850 for the down, is much warmer. I was hoping since the new version also has 850 down it would maintain the same warmth, but it is not nearly as warm. This jacket is not suitable for cold temps without layering. The old version was able to keep me warm without layers at the same temps of 20-25 F. Overall if you're looking for a comfortable and stylish jacket this one is great. I am disappointed this jacket is not suitable for colder temperatures like the old version could handle even though the down is tasted the same number.

Styled very nice, comes down low over torso, beautiful color, teal with orange trim, looks Sharp, sewn well, but my husband doesn't really stay warm in it when we go out for a walk in cold weather. Today he wore his old down jacket under this new LLBean one and he said he was warm enough, just right. It is like a sweater as another reviewer said. I think I bought him the wrong jacket, it's just not warm enough. We walk in 40 deg. F and higher.

Ask me when winter arrives. I have yet to wear it outside. It does, however, fit.

A comfortable and well fitting article of clothing. I wish the designer had included a double zipper for this long coat so that when I sit down, tension could be relieved at the bottom. I miss the cold comfort rating that Bean formerly used for winter wear. For a "packable" item there is no compression pocket.

The jacket is very light and comfortable. It does rip easily though. Pretty bad customer experience at the store. The cashier told us, "not liking a color is no reason to return a coat." Really, it was never worn and it was too bright.

This is a love/hate relationship. This coat gets little rips so easily. On the other hand, it's very light, very warm (a light sweater under it and I'm toasty on a 20 degree ski slope) and quickly packs down to nothing. But in 2 years, I've patched it 5 times (Tear-Aid Fabric Repair works well). And not one time could I recall how the tear got there; they just appear. It's not like I could remember, "oh yeah, that was when I was hit by that tree branch." Of course, who wants to go out anywhere with friends with a cool, LLB, Expensive coat that's got these tape blotches here and there. I wish I had a more resilient material.

I have two of these, one with hood and one without. Both are damaged, one ripped the other punctured. I don't expect any clothing to be bulletproof but the shell on these is too fragile for anything but wearing in a car going back and forth to an office.

Not long ago I purchased the 850 parka. I have purchased many of these parkas for skiing and other winter activities. My recent 850 has not held up well at all . The outer shell is not at all durable. Zipper system not good. Have resorted to repair tape so I can get through this ski season with it .Where has the good L.L. Bean quality gone?

While this is a nice jacket, it was not as warm for an 850 down jacket given the price charged. I have another brand listed as 800 down that is actually much warmer and far less money. While I used to be an avid LL Bean buyer, the quality in my opinion is less and your pricing is no longer competitive to similar products I own. I hadn't made an LL Bean purchase in a while, and I thought I'd give it a try. It really isn't up To my expectations when I wore it. Sorry, I would have liked it to be my go to. Talls are hard enough to find, however, for the price and quality I will look elsewhere.
