Very comfortable hiking shoe with the additional advantage of being waterproof. Sizes run a little larger than normal. I ordered a 9 but an 8.5 would probably be a better fit. Not sure if they would send me a pair to try and keep the ones that fit the best or not. Wearing thick socks help.

Love this shoe so much I bought a second pair. Just a little confused as to why they cost $10 more online then in the store. Could it be the $10 gift card you get when you buy online ? Rather have the lower price then get a $10 gift card I have to use in a specified time frame.
Would have given it a 5 star rating but the extra $10 that they cost brought my rating down a notch.

Needed a little bit of breaking in, but that lasted about a day. Overall very happy, but I haven't had them long, just a couple weeks.

I decided to get my husband another pair because he liked the first one I purchased. I will say to order a size up. He usually wears a 13 but we had to order a 14 and they fit fine.

Found the souls to be very stiff. I am hoping they will break in soon. Have only used shoes for 25 hours of hiking. The metatarsal arch seem to be a little snug across the top of my foot. An elastic lace with toggles might be better.

I have a wide foot (4E) and am always hesitant about buying any shoes online for that reason. I ordered these waterproof trail hiking shoes in a wide size but they were still extremely tight. Thankfully, LL Bean has a no questions asked return policy, so I know I'll have no problems returning them for a full refund.

These low cut hikers have a good grip on all the surfaces I have walked on. After two months of on and off wearing these shoes are still stiff. The tongue on these shoes should be a bit wider too.

ordered to replace boots that were too narrow and not available in wide. allowed to return after 3 or 4 wearings and 1 year. very appreciative, and customer service women were extremely helpful and gracious.

I bought these for my son. He has a pair of the Pathfinder trail shoes but wanted something for cooler weather. He has a wide foot. We had to go up half a size. He also got blisters but he's hoping these will loosen up. The are nice looking and well made so I hope they break in and get comfortable.

My wife and I each got a pair to use while hiking in Alaska. The Chilkoot Trail and wooded areas off the trail in Denali were both extremely muddy. We didnt't think the shoes would ever look like new again. But, each time, we washed them in the shower or bathtub, let them dry overnight, and they indeed looked like new again. We wore hiking socks with them, and they were quite comfortable.
Last month we took them to Europe because they are waterproof and it was quite rainy. They kept us dry and were again comfortable for about 10 miles of daily walking.
Style-wise, I swapped between these and my New Balance 870 runners. The styling is somewhat similar. These, of course, are much firmer in the middle, which is desirable during hiking.
I had a problem with a lace loop breaking so I returned them and got another pair. It appears that the loops are better reinforced now than they were with my old pair.

First off, all my shoes (about a dozen pairs) are size 12. I ordered size 12 and they were too tight fitting. Had to send them back for 13's. Fine.
That pair felt good out of the box, wore them around town about a week before going camping and hiking up in the mountains. Nice support. Great on the trails. I was doing climbing up very uneven, rocky, wet and muddy terrain and sometimes in rain. The undersoles are very solid and can handle uneven jagged surfaces without twisting your ankles. Very good traction. Lots of water, mud, shallow creeks to cross. Stayed dry, that was nice.
I'm in my 60's, feet are fine but knees are a little worn. Because of that I did feel it in my knees after some of these hikes. Being waterproof and of solid construction I noticed these are a slight few more ounces in weight than some of the other hiking shoes. Guess I'm wondering now if a lighter pair would have been better on my used knees. Thus the 4 stars instead of 5.
Really no complaints though, these shoes will get lots of use on the job and for the outdoors. Very satisfied with the LL Bean quality and purchase.

I have not had a chance to give these shoes the call of the wild test as of yet. I have owned two previous "trail" models and they have performed extremely well. I am confident these will perform just as admirably, all indications point that way. The fit for me was perfect, no complaints. True to size (9.5). Finish is top notch, well constructed.
I am an old man who walks a lot and that is what these shoes remind me of, an old man's walking shoe. Could they come with a velcro closure? The toe cap material does not provide the protection or come up over the toes as in previous models. The extra toe protection is very valuable on rocky trails or when on your knees pounding a tent stake. The leather gussets are of superb quality as I am sure the man made material is. The synthetic material is extremely shiny on my shoes, it has an almost metallic look.
I will be happier when they get dirty. In spite of my somewhat trivial "cons" I would buy again. The performance I am optimistic is there it's just that the look is sketchy to be labeled a "trail model hiking shoe".

The Trail Model 4 Waterproof Hiking Shoe is a very good walking and hiking shoe. It seemed a little wide for my narrow foot and I was really on the fence about whether to keep it. In the end, my podiatrist felt it was not the best fit for me so I did return the shoes. One issue that concerned him was that the sole flexed more that he would have liked at the midpoint of the foot, thus affecting the support that the shoe would give me. I can't say I totally agree with his assessment, but I followed his advice. Bottom line: another very good product from LL Bean but not the best boot for me.

Strange take on coffee. More like mauve. Somewhat tight and toe short. Reluctant to exchange for next 1/2 size, so will live with it.

I bought these to walk on varied surfaces from sidewalks to grass to rougher trails. The sole works well on all but a slick shiny surface. Fit is good and the laces work well (some do not).

A quality built shoe with good arch support and a thick sole with beefy treads. My only complaint is that Even the wide width is a little narrower than I like. The good news is after a 2 weeks of wearing them they have stretched enough to be comfortable even with an athletic sock.

These would be excellent shoes if they only fit true to size. I wear an 8 or an 8.5, got 8, returned for 8.5 and my big toe still hits the end of the shoe. I thought if I broke them in they'd be perfect but my toe starts to ache after wearing them for very long.

These hiking shoes are well built, although they are somewhat heavy, which could be problematic on a long hike. They fit fine and were comfortable. The big downside is that the laces came untied very often, thus they are unsuitable for hiking not only convenience wise but safety as well. Tying a double knot is a pain as there is not much extra length. I will have to buy new laces to make these shoes usable.

I've worn these shoes each day since they arrived and they are rigid and uncomfortable.
I think of Frankenstein each time I set out to walk the dogs. They look ok, but certainly don't turn heads. Read a few more reviews before you order these. Mine may become dog toys before winter.

These seemed good. They were good for two weeks of 5/mi/day walking break in. But once on the trail with a pack they produced blisters in only three days. I will look for a real pair of trail shoes and leave these for casual walking

Nice shoe. Well made. Could have softer inner sole. Outter sole picks up and retains gravel when I come into the housecrazy. Never had that happen with a shoe

Comfortable, but I walked for 30 minutes in the rain on pavement and my feet were soaked. Misleading to say theses are waterproof. But, I will probably keep them for hiking in dry weather

These shoes were so stiff that I returned them. I'm sure someone with a lot of patience could break them in, but not me.
