Don't breathe too well, maybe because of waterproof.

Shoe needed breaking in, after that was fine but for a double E should not have been so tight. I normally wear Merrill Moab standard width they tend to have a wider toe box but their waterproof also tend to be to tight so though I'd try Bean

I have been buying these shoes for years, used with orthotics for flat feet. For some reason the colors offered earlier fit better. With this model I had to switch from 10.5 wide to 11 wide. The current 11 works better than the 10.5 but rubs against my toes and heels, to which I try to fix with creams and sometimes bandaids. I am still buying these shoes (which seem better than others I have tried), but wish the earlier ones with better fit were available.

Good but not very water proof. Heavy dew penetrates toe box area. A spray of Scotchgard takes care of this issue.

Half a size too small for me, although most others say true to size.
The musty smell of the shoes permeates the packaging and box, and smells the closet up. Must be from the materials or chemicals they use. I can tolerate it and hope it dissipates after wearing outdoors.

I have ordered a variety of shoes from LLBean and have been happy with all except this one - much narrower than other size 9 shoes I have ordered so I returned them. Otherwise shoe was well built and seemed plenty sturdy for hiking.

I just went walking with these on a wet paved road. Very little standing water, but wet. After only a few minutes my calves were soaking wet on the back almost to my knees. Apparently this tread pattern flings water up your legs, when you walk on wet surfaces. I can only imagine what they will do on muddy trails. Really disappointed because I like every other aspect of these shoes very much. Not good for a waterproof shoe. I'm guessing the designer(s) never actually put a pair on and went outside with them.

This shoe is sturdy and should last for a long wear but the last lace area is too high. It rubbed my ankle bone sore. I couldn't use the shoes after the third day of wearing them.

These boots fit perfectly, and are water proof. However, they are heavier than I'd hoped, so really only use them for strenuous hikes, splitting wood, etc. rather than around town as I'd hoped.

I bought these to replace a very worn-out pair of Vasque waterproof hiking shoes. The Model 4 is noticeably lighter and more flexible than the sturdy Vasques, but they are also about half the price.
The Vasques lasted a year and a half with near-daily use. Can't speak to how the Model 4 will do in the long term, but they are reasonably waterproof, have terrific grip, and, compared to the Vasques, represent a real value.

I go through about 1 pair/year of these, walking a very roughly estimated 500 miles that are slightly too wet or rough for "trail running" shoes. These do the job well for the price. The only suggested improvement would be to the padded insert, I usually have a few toes worn clear through after the first 6 months.

I had my eye in these shoes for two years. This fall I saw at least four LL Bean associates wearing them will I was shopping.
I thought to myself- "this must be a good shoe".
Waterproof , Great Traction and Very comfortable.

The shoes are truly weather proof and fit well after a short break in period. My only complaint is with the laces. They are round and pretty slick and consequently don't stay tied, which is very tedious. One would think for the price LL Bean would provide a more user friendly lace-flat and textured.

The shoe is true to size and more supportive than other shoes of this type. I am very pleased with it

I have not taken a long hike in the trail models yet, just walking around breaking them in a bit.
Nice styling and hopefully waterproof as advertised, but the shoes not as wide as expected. I purchased KATAHDIN boots a while back and they were wide and wonderfully comfortable right away. Did some "FOURTEENERS" in Co with them. I wanted lighter ones for faster day hikes. I would recommend the Trail model for regular width feet but not a wide foot.

Unfortunately size for this and boot I ordered previously not uniform. Had to return at a cost of 6.50 and wait 2 weeks for replacement due today.

These are great walking shoes. I do about 2000 miles per pair. My only complaint is about the laces which always unravel. The fabric outer part breaks away leaving the nylon inner core. In terms of wear, the weakest part of my shoes is always the inner shoe at the back of the heel which wears away leaving a hole by the achilles tendon which can rub. That's when I need a new pair even though the rest of the shoe is mostly OK.

This is my 3rd pair. Needless to say I am happy with the fit, feel and style. Would like more choice on color combinations. Find the wear point are on the blue inner liner that shows around the top on the shoe where to foot enters and exits. It could be a more robust material that doesn't show wear in a year or so.

I got these boots to wear when I walk my three dogs, on and off-road. They have lived up to my expectations. I have been caught in a few downpours, but they have kept my feet dry. They have also been easy to clean. I have have been wearing them about three weeks. They are still a little stiff, so they take some time to break in. Overall, I am happy with the boots. What I am not so happy with is how long it has been taking Bean to fulfill orders and process returns. To get my size right, I also ordered a 10.5, which I returned by mail. It's been at least two weeks, and the return still has not been processed. I haven't even gotten an e-mail acknowledgment that they have received my return. Until Bean can do better, this longtime customer won't be placing more orders.

Liked the design, comfort and walking around feel. Kinda heavy though.
I chose wide size but even though it says wide, it's snug.
Glad they are made in Vietnam & not China.

These shoes were comfortable right out of the box which is a rare experience for me with shoes. We've had a very wet winter and my feet remained dry. However, following a recent walk through a rain soaked field, the shoes leaked a little. LLBean is replacing them per their great guarantee. I still rate them a 4 because of the comfort, quality of build and the fact that this was the first time my feet became wet after lots of rainy days. Naturally, I'll revisit this review if the second pair doesn't keep the water out. I'm hoping the waterproofing works because I really, really like these shoes.

I wear these 95% of the time, as I like the traction, support and fit. The one change I would make is to offer a version with no mesh panel over the toes for use in the winter. I usually shorten the laces by 6 inches because I find then too floppy otherwise.
