seems to run a little small compared to other similar LLBean shoes (e.g.Rugged Ridge Hikers or High Cut Trail Model 4 hiking boats)

Great Hiking shoe needs to be broken in. I have had these for a month. They were stiff and a little tight. I wear them every day for a mile walk. They have loosened up nicely.

Very comfortable. Slight pain in the toe area at the beginning while they were getting stretched and broken in, but that seems to have gone away. Very satisfied with these shoes.

Great shoes. This is my second pair that took over 3 months to receive. This latest pair is identical in width and length to the pair I purchased a few years ago. However, they are a tighter fit. Hopefully they will stretch out over the next few weeks.

Out of the box these shoes were stiff and tight. However after five miles of hiking over four days they have loosened up nicely. The point is this is an old school shoe that needs to be broken in.

I like the feel of the construction of these shoes. The toe box is nice and solid which I want in a shoe. However, although my normal shoe size is 13.5, and I purchased the largest size (14E) available, unfortunately they are still somewhat tight on my toes. Winter is not kind to them and I was hoping the wider size would take some pressure off them. I believe these would be a great shoe if I could get the size to make room for my toes.

I've had these shoes for about 3 1/2 months at the time of this review. I primarily use them for walking the dog through grassy fields in all weather conditions. They are definitely waterproof. Yes, they are a bit on the heavy side but these are hiking shoes, not walking/running shoes. That extra heft gives much better support and traction on uneven surfaces. My only critique is that they took a long time to break in. The top of the foot along the tongue and laces was particularly uncomfortable and the shoes could not be worn without thick socks. Eventually, they got there and I'm glad I stuck it out but they were not comfortable for me out of the box.

I like the features (low cut, waterproof, lightweight & reasonable price), but was unable to get my fit. I tried size 12 wide (2E) hoping a little extra length would work, but really need a 4E width. They seem very well made and I would've bought two pairs to switch out, as I do a lot of walking.

If you are an older guy and you walk a mile or so a day for minimum exercise, these are not really the shoes for you. They are not soft and supple like Saucony and Merrill walkers. If you are hiking on unpaved, rocky trails, then these are good shoes for you. They are rugged, a little heavy and give the ankle area a lot of support. I was disappointed with the foot bed, and replaced it with a Red Wing work foot bed, which was much softer. My dress size is 10 W, and with the athletic type shoes like this I always get an 11W. Worked this time.

I usually wear a 10.5 wide. I had to go to an 11 wide and even then thought of returning them as they were tight. But I wore them a few times and they loosened up. Tested them.camping in wet grass. Kept my feet dry and warm.

Very comfortable shoe. Had to order 1/2 size larger than I typically wear. Seem to be a durable shoe so far (Had them 1 week) but can wear them all day and my feet are not hurting. Have splashed water accidentally on them while filling water trough for our goats and my feet stayed dry, could not even tell I spilled water on them as it beaded up and rolled off. Wish they came in extra-wide but just the normal wide (2E) seem to be acceptable.

Out of the box these shoes seem a little stiffer than previous pairs. They fit well and appear to be well made. My previous pair lasted 3 years, time will tell.

Solid shoe, but a bit narrow despite buying the wide version. They are getting more comfortable each time I use them. Definitely waterproof.

I needed a shoe that I could wear through a Montana winter's slush, ice, snow and everything in-between as well as indoors for meetings and other things. This shoe fits the bill very well. My only complaint is the stiffness. We senior citizens have softer feet, and more flexibility would be helpful. That said, I will buy them again when these ones wear out.

The shoe is good quality and gives great support for hiking. It is a little tight in width. I thought it would loosen up when it was broke in but it has not. I would consider a wider shoe if purchasing again.

Great fit immediately which I can't say for most shoes I buy. Good treads. EE Wide is wide enough for me and that's not something I can say very often w/most EEWide shoes. Reason for only 4 stars instead of 5 is they could use better arch support and another eyelet further back toward the ankle to pull closer around heel. Haven't worn yet so can't attest to grip-ability and waterproof-ness. Color navy/saddle is really nice. I'm a female, btw and always buy men's shoes because (for the most part) women's Wide shoes are almost never wide enough. My female shoe size is 9.5, so I ordered these men's in an 8.

The last couple of pairs of LL Bean brand shoes/boots I have ordered have been small, both in length and width. Smaller than previous pairs of footwear and smaller, I think, than what most would expect. As with most Bean products, this one is very good, but since you can't try them on at home to see, order larger than you might otherwise.
