We have bought these boots for 30 years. We buy at least 3 pairs a year between me and my husband. We love them but in the last few years we have been having trouble with the sewing coming apart where it is 3 stitched from the top leather to the rubber. We feel that something is being done differently on this sewing where the leather tops get sewed to the rubber boot part and it is just not good quality like it used to be. We still buy the boots but are not happy with the quality anymore.

the boot itself is well made ,but the material used to stitch frays and comes apart.LLbean should look into using another type of thread for stitching on this boot.Have had the boot into the shoe repair twice now.

I basically like the boot, however, the top cut my leg and I have to find a way to soften the leather so I can wear them or find a way to pad the top.

I followed LLBean's sizing recommendations exactly, waited several weeks due to backorder, got my boots ready for winter weather and they are too small. Now another 4 month backorder and no boots for my winter 2015. Order your typical size and not what Bean recommends.

Generally, 10 1/2 fits me good. But LLBeans doesn't have this size. 11 length is suitable but wide is a little bit wide for me.

I do like that the Bean boots come in more varied size widths for men. I have always purchased mens' sizes as the womens' run too narrow. The boots still had the same comfortable feel to them that they used to. What I was disappointed with was the leather uppers. The finish of the leather made them seem almost plastic. The other feature I found disappointing was the rubber bottom. The last time I bought this boot (back in the late eighties) the bottoms were slip proof. This was something I was specifically looking for when I purchased this pair. I also miss the practice of having the bottom or top parts replaced when they have worn out.

I love my bean boots (I wore my first pair for 10 years), but something is going wrong with the stitching that holds the leather upper to the rubber bottom. I am on my third pair in 3 years (luckily, bean has replaced at no cost).because this stitching has come undone, allowing the upper to separate from the bottom. The pair that I just replaced this past weekend was only purchased in Sept 2012! I wear them often, but I don't abuse them -- main use is for walking the dog! So what is going on??? Where is the legendary LL Bean quality? I am losing my faith.

I've worn these boots about 10 times now and I'm still struggling with the comfort. I've tried several different types of socks tryinf to find ones that will help. Everyone at work that has Bean boots swear by them but unless I find a combination of socks that works I may have to just put them in the closet. The problem for me is where the upper leather meets the rubber on the side. It hits just under my ankle and wears that spot raw. I haven't given up but not sure how long the feet will tolerate the discomfort.

I've shopping at LL Bean since 1950 and have almost always liked what I purchased. This shoe does the job perfectly but the upper needs a refit to bring it to a modern shoe fit. One would need ankles like an elephant for the top to fit snugly. It's time for a redesign so that it fits as well as other shoes that I've purchased from LL Bean. I'm sure other customers feel the same way even though they have not mentioned it. Dry feet are nice!!

I should have sent these back after the first wearing, but we have so much this year that I needed them everyday.
the problem is the opening of the boot. It seems like they were made for children . I have to struggle everytime I put the boots on. Once on, there are fine. I don't have big feet,8.5. with a D width.
If there is a next time I would have ordered a thinsulate version. You should do somthing about this problem.

obviously the boot is rubber. they keep your feet dry from the elements but since theres no way for air to really circulate they make your feet sweat but they don't keep your feet warm (go for the thinsulate at least if cold is an issue for you). but still a great rain boot, really comfortable.

Sizing info on website is close. Good explanation of sizing/fit is included in box - a little airspace makes to toes warmer. The tongue doesn't float which helps keep water from getting into the boot(s). Heel is very narrow which can lead to rolling an ankle. Particularly if you use the front of one on the heel of the other to remove boot. A "beef roll" or similar will help with boot removal.

LL Bean expected quality; however no lining in these thus not suitable for cold weather- returned them.

Just got these. Winter and mud will be the test. Need something truly waterproof. Time will tell.

I had been looking for mid high boot to keep my feet dry in the slush, snow, and ice of Northwestern PA during the winter months (October - May) and these certainly meet that expecation. They are however, FAR from warm, in fact, any amount of cold from snow or slush on the exterior, is immediately translated through the rubber and into the wearer. I typically wear them with midweight socks to mitigate the problem and your feet warm back up quickly given that they are at least dry. My only other complaint about these boots is the laces. I've had mine for almost two weeks now and the laces are already starting to come apart. I plan on contacting customer service to ask about alternatives, but will likley end up by a pair of laces locally to replace the ones that came with them.

a quality product , as expected from bean. i really miss the slip on version of this boot , so i settled for the lace up because bean boots are the best.

Over the last decade or more I have gone through 3 or 4 of these excellent rain shoes. They are great; do the job.
BUt I'm also a decade or more older (71), and my knees can no longer take the relatively heavy weight of these shoes (weight has pendulum effect on knees). This is why a while back my doctor urged me to stop wearing ankle weights on my daiily hikes.
So, if you are concerned about your knees and not getting any younger, maybe these are not the shoes for you.

Pull tab on the back of the boot to help you slide it on snapped. The seam ripped out after me wearing the boot for less than a full work week

The boots are warm, comfortable and stylish. My only complaint is with the soles. These boots are not for everyday wear in an urban environment. The soles wear down very quickly making the boots impossible to wear. Local cobblers are unable to repair the boots and the two pair of boots that I returned to LL Bean for repair disappeared into a black hole. The durability and construction of these boots is antithetical to LL Bean's support for conservation.

I purchased these due to them being offered in a narrow size. They took a bit time to break in although did eventually. That said, the pull strap on one boot ripped during putting the boot on, the first time I've had this take place in over 50 years of wearing boots. The stitching was so close together, it literally acted as a perforation and ripped right along these holes. The final issue is the boots leak at the toe area, even though I used a leather conditioner, the boots left my feet wet in only a couple inches of fresh snow, very disappointing product.

I have to admit this is based on one wearing, so I may revise it later. The length fit is fine (I wear 10.5, so bought a size 9 as advised) and the waterproofing is good, but the boot was so stiff around the ankle and heel that it wore sores into both my feet after only a short use. Perhaps this is a breaking-in problem, or maybe I need to wear thicker socks; I was using them with just normal athletic socks. I had considered returning these, but decided to give them more time. For the moment, I'd have difficulty recommending them.

Bean boots were great but customer service was poor. We had to change size and was charged $6.50 to ship back the boot. Then, instead of crediting my CC was sent a merchant credit that can only used at ll bean. Finally, when I tried to use the credit online it was not recognized and couldn't be used.
Totally frustrating
