Really good fit, good quality seam-work and construction. Not as warm as rated, however, on really cold, windy winter days. Need sufficient layers underneath to make it work. That makes it a bit pricey, in my opinion. But still a good product.

A very good value at season-end sale prices. It replaced my 10+ yr old 850 jacket. Really like the Downtek water resistance. Dries much more quickly than the old version. Adequately warm, but doesn't seem to have the loft of the old version though.

Great down jacket...not quit as warm as I expected. Nice color (pale green), and a great sale price. Fits very good. I use it as a liner in a gore-tex coat I have....does the trick! Haven't worn it in really cold weather so I can't give a review on extreme conditions, but it does well as a liner in the mid 30s to 20s.

I live in the northwest corner of CT, where it can get pretty cold. I like this jacket a lot. In fact it's my go-to jacket...until the temp dips below 15 or so. Don't know who tested this in -25 and didn't freeze-bite their butt off. Despite what they say or think, this is a light winter jacket. It's just too thin and light for those arctic blasts.

I purchased this puffy as an insulated layer to keep in my daypack when deer hunting, winter hiking, etc., and it fits the bill nicely. It's not super warm, but it is very light and very compact (especially when stuffed in its pocket for storage). The size XL I ordered, however, seems to run a little larger than normal.

I love these jackets for travel and just walking around, as long as I am not looking for hard core, long term warmth in the outdoors when its really cold. This is my third one. My only complaint is the fabric snags and rips easily and after a lot of daily wear the zippers stopped working on the last two. That didn't stop me from getting another.

My wife and I just bought these jackets and we think they are great except the temperature ratings are absurd. I just came back from a brisk walk wearing LL Bean's heavy weight long john 1/4 zip top and at 35 degrees out, I was cool. Nice looking and fitting jacket, but you don't want to wear these in temps anywhere near what Bean has rated them.

Warm, light, and really sharp style - who could ask for more? I take very good care of my clothes. Unfortunately, soon after I purchased it, I noticed a tiny hole where the down was coming out. Then a day or so ago, I lightly brushed against a sign and the shell tore so easily. My tailor said the material is too thin to sew and repair the shell. So while it is lightweight, the fabric is too fragile for regular use. Fortunately, LLBean stands behind their products and I am sure they will issue a refund as it's within a year.

Dear Sirs I am disappointed in the Ultra-light down jacket purchased. The zipper is made of plastic and does not work well. I am a frequent L.L.Bean customer. The jacket for the price is inferior and in my opinion does not approach your standards

It doesn't seem to have as much down as the one I bought two years ago. It's a very comfortable jacket, but I wish it had at least 20% more down.

Why is there no hood? This jacket calls for a hood. And why is there only one side zippered pocket, none on inside as previous.

Looks well made and like the way it looks, but very thin. Does not appear to have much insulation. Hope it's warm enough.

I love these jackets however Bean apparently changed vendors and some features, like zippered pack away pouch have been eliminated. Also the sizes are different.

I was hoping that the jacket would keep me warmer. You really need a sweater or hoodie or something else underneath to keep warm on days even with temperatures outside above freezing. I usually wear a sweatshirt hoodie underneath. I might exchange my particular item for another one, because my zipper keeps getting stuck.

Dissapointed in how it keeps "leaking" feathers on my sweaters and shirts!

I recently ordered this coat intended to be a lighter casual coat to wear in the moderate Carolina winters. The garment arrived and it is well made, attractive and should provide quality service. I have no complaints as to its appearance and workmanship. However, the major short coming is that it is "thin" and allows wind to penetrate through the fabric. Advertised as a "down jacket" is somewhat correct but the product description should state that the coat would best be worn at temperatures above 40 degrees. I recommend that the garment should be modified to have a lightweight "liner fabric" incorporated between the layers to avoid the wind penetration and yet the coat would still be lightweight. As currently manufactured, the wearer should layer to be comfortable while wearing this coat. For myself, rather than spend the money for this garment, I am better served buying a less expensive "windbreaker". As a consumer of LL Bean for over 50 years, this coat is one of my few criticisms of LL Bean clothing and unfortunately, I have returned the garment for refund.

OK jacket, not real warm but suitable if you need flexability with ambient temps (I'm outdoors then indoors, perhaps grocery shopping). When it's in the 30'sF out, I usually layer a light down vest under it. If it's windy I also layer a windbreaker over it. If colder, I just layer on another down jacket. (I'm 70 so I get chilly if our home is below 74 degreesF). Shell is lightweight but can tear too easily or so it seems, it's a tradeoff. I buy in black so I can use black caulk on those tears. Usually by the time the shell has had enough repairs, the zipper fails. I've had 3 or 4 of these and I still keep buying them again, for what that's worth. I'd like to see a version with a stronger zipper, a stronger shell, & more insulative power. I don't like a hood and this one does not have one, a plus for me.

The jacket was perfect, it was in perfect condition and it arrived very quickly once it shipped. However I do have one qualm with the packaging it arrived in. This was the only item my husband really asked me to get him for Christmas this year. So i made the purchase on Black Friday which is when most do their Christmas shopping and you can imagine my disappointment when I got home the day it was delivered, my husband had beat me home first, and it said L.L. Bean all over the box, ruining the surprise! So maybe a discreet packaging during the holidays is in order? But my husband does love the jacket!

Returned Jacket. Elastic at wrists is too loose. Air comes up the sleeves even with multiple layers underneath. The looseness causes the sleeves to slide down over the top half of my hands. Coat needs a zipper that opens from top AND bottom. Other than these two issues this is a GREAT coat. Light weight but very warm, Packable and it works nicely with LL Bean's raincoat. Fix the issues in mentioned and I would purchase this coat again.

I got the tall xxl black 850. They went a little crazy with company embroidery logos. Normally Nice expensive jackets have one (1) or no overbearing visible logo this jacket has four (4) bright white logos - front, back?, side of sleeve?, and inside kind of like a NASCAR. The amount of logos really took a lot away from the aesthetic of this jacket. And that sucks because the jacket fits great.

I bought this same model jacket about 10 years ago and loved it. The current version is missing some of the very nice features of the earlier: I really miss the fleece lined pockets and collar-much more comfortable and warming than the current nylon. Also it seems to have less down filling than the previous 850 jacket, so will probably be less warm. Only plus is the newer colors.

I liked the jacket a lot but returned it because, to me, the arm holes are small, making for an overly snug fit up high under the armpits. I ordered a Medium and I'm 5'11" / 173 lbs. The jacket otherwise fit great.

I wanted to love this but the hood seems a bit thin, I suggest smaller baffles. The hood also needs more coverage, it barely covers the forehead without being pulled really tight. The jacket is lacking an inside stash pocket on the right side. Sizing is great but it is being discontinued so I'll wait and see if they correct mistakes. This year's version going back. I got a large tall.

Fit is good. Keeps you warm into the lower 30s, upper 20s. Not as warm as expected considering the 850 fill.
