Buy these at your own risk and take all of the reviews on here seriously. I have purchased more than 20 pairs of Salomon shoes for my family and I over the last 15 years and something has happened to their quality in the last 5 years. I purchased these Quest boots to replace a 10 year old pair of Quest boots that I now regret replacing. The old ones were still ok in hindsight compared to these new boots which have completely failed in less than 3 years. The soles are literally splitting in half, the toe caps have peeled off on the corners and even the Gore-tex liner is leaking. I am honestly shocked at how poor quality these are now. Salomon products will no longer be my go to shoe supplier as they are clearly not the same quality as they used to be.

I've owned 3 other pairs of Quest 4D boots. All of them lasted about 6 months of daily abuse. I kept buying them because they required practically no break in, and they felt solid. This new design is a step backward compared to their old design. They are more narrow than before, and the top of the toe box creases too far forward causing the tops of my toes rub against the creased part. The insole shifts around when I walk, and the fit and finish looks and feels cheap.

I bought two pairs of these boots last year, one for my son, and one for my myself. Within a week the toe rand on one of his boots had begun to separate completely, and since then has gotten continually worse with time. My boots on the other hand were completely fine, so this must be some sort of hit-or-miss thing with these boots. Other than the clear toe rand problems, these boots provide excellent comfort, stability, and traction during the entire year. I have used them on numerous hikes over all sorts of terrain, including snow, and they have not failed me once.

Few main problems with these boots but I'll start with the positive.. good on rough steep rocky terrain, I liked wearing them for shorter distance trips and they had good ankle support.. that's about it.. 1. The insole they come with is worthless, paper thin with no cushion in any way (why do they keep using super thin ortholite insoles). 2. The boots fall start falling apart near the back heel stitching quickly(same problem with Quest 03). One boot has both sides coming apart while other is only one side. If you're going to rate them for steep rocky terrain they need to hold up to it. 3. Not comfortable for long distances, even started causing me foot problems one one foot. Maybe have 3-400 miles on them at the most.. I gave Salomon another chance after the Quest 03's were awful, but these 04's seem to be worse in build quality somehow.. might add pics later but no chance I'm paying $ for another Salomon shoe again..

I bought a pair October 2020. Walked 5 to 6 km daily. Within 5 months, the boot leather had separated from the toe cap and along the sides of the boot where it joined with the sole. These were returned under warranty. A new pair was purchased in April 2021, and they also had exactly the same defect occur after 1 year. I love the fit and support of these boots, but the durability is clearly a design flaw. Since they are not under warranty, I have used a caulking compound for running shoes to fill the large cracks. I still continue to walk in them but they are no longer waterproof.

I wear these boots hard but expected more. After 7 months of use they began to lose waterproofing and the soles began to delaminate. I know I've put on more miles than average, but in only 7 months I'd expect more. Sad to see these boots being made to be so disposable.

Like most other reviewers I found these very light and comfortable, but they started to fall apart after 8 months. I only use them for 1-2 hours most days whilst walking the dogs. I had a previous version of these, which lasted several years. Having said that, the service from Salomon was excellent. I filled in the warranty form and uploaded a couple of pictures. Within 2 hours I received a voucher for a new pair. WELL DONE Salomon customer service.

I've gone through two pairs of the boots. First pair lasted about six months, I figured it was a fluke. Being as they're very comfortable I bought another pair. Poorly made, these boots fall apart in under a year of regular use. For the price I expect many more miles. Sole comes apart near the toe and even with regular treatment they soak up water. Very disappointed because I thought these would be my go-to hiking/backpacking/hunting boots. I have loved the Salomon brand but I'm calling it quits.

Title says it all. I bought the same size as my old gtx's but the new design had narrowed and overall shrunk the front of the boot. Fit great barefoot, lol, but not wearable with a pair of hiking socks, even with laces loose.

Most comfortable boots I've ever owned, but the waterproof membrane failed after only a year of light use. Very disappointing, seems like the build quality isn't as good as older versions

Salomon boots have been my daily wear for about eight years. The fit and style of these boots was excellent, but the positives stop there. Unlike my previous experience with Salomons, these boots are uncomfortable, and have poor traction - especially in snow.

I have owned two pairs of these boots and both have fallen apart within a year. Wish they could figure out how to make a more durable boot since these are some of the most light and comfortable hiking boots I have owned.

Bought these boots over the summer for hiking and hunting in Colorado. Started out with a few mild hikes to get things broken down in which they did great it. Next on the list was our 4 day backcountry elk hunt in September. Had a heavy pack and the boots felt good. Did a lot of miles in the high alpine. Performance did great as well. The only issue for the trip was it was a little moist the first morning. Walking through the wet grass, I could feel my feet getting wet. Didn't think much of it as once we got into some dryer stuff, things dried up. Fast forward to end of October, went out when it was misting and had rained the night before. I walked about 100ft and it had felt like I was walking through a stream. Since it stayed overcast all day, boots never dried out and continued to get more saturated. With the boots having "Gore-Tex" on the name, I would have expected them to stay dry in these light moisture conditions. I think my old sneakers have more water protection then these boots do. Really disappointed in the lack of waterproofing these boots have and it's been a deal breaker for me.

Bought these when they came out with the refresh. Got the same size as the old pair but these ones look and feel a size larger. Completely unwearable now and can't return them. When I buy the same number size of the same boot it should be the same size. At least they seemed waterproof in the one puddle I walked through.

Had these boots 2 months and already the rubber toe box is peeling away on the right boot. They are comfortable but not a serious boot for hard use. Ok for weekend rambling

I love these boots because they are very comfortable right out of the box. I hate these boots because they leak. I've had two pair and have recommended them to a couple hunting buddies. That's four pair in total and they all leaked.

Boots are less than 2 years old. I only wear them about 6 weeks of the year for hunting season. Started leaking water after the first season (2020). Stuck with them as is was not too bad. But this year (2021) with an early snow and moisture on the ground they were soaked after a few hours and that was with wearing waterproof leg gaiters. Stepping to cross shallow streams also caused water entry and wet feet. With a gore tex membrane it takes a long time to dry them out which equates to wet feet for several days. The side sole by the toe box is detaching. Love the boot for comfort but they are not anymore waterproof than a regular hiking boot. Salomon boots fit me very well, I wished they would make them more durable.

I have no reliability info to report yet. This is an out of the box review. Background: I have an older pair of quest boots (purchased in 2017 and seen in photos) that happen to be one of my favorite boots of all time. I put these things through rigorous use and thousands of miles over the past 4 years... if only these boots were still in production. The new pair of Quest 4 Gore-Tex boots do not fit even close to the old ones did out of the box. This pair is stiffer, less comfortable, and position the foot flatter. The sizing has also changed. My perfect fitting 9.5 size is now too long in the new pair. Outside of these shortcomings, there are some others that make me worry that this pair won't be as reliable as the old: the tread pattern has been downgraded and the tough metal eyelets have been replaced with plastic. Some of the fabric feels to have changed as well. Aesthetics have also changed. Several of the Salomon insignias have been removed, the color of the fabric on the tongue no longer contrasts the color of the green outer boot material, a pointless and ugly loop has been added to the tongue (no one has ever had an issue with this), stitching has been moved from the tongue, and the shoelaces don't look as good.

I dont know if Salomon changed something about this year's versions of the Quest 4d but something seems different. This is my 5th pair of this boot and I loved all the other pairs. Didn't need any breaking in, could wear thing socks and never got a single blister. With this new pair, my heals are getting torn apart. I'm even getting blisters on my heal on the area of my heal towards the inside of my foot. Doesn't matter what I try to cover the skin with I still get blister. Extremely disappointed with this recent version of this boot.

I bought these just under a year ago and have been impressed with them until last week. The right boot has now started to leak. I have dried the boot out completely and worn again on damp grass - it's still leaking. Not as waterproof as stated. Not happy, an expensive pair of boots claiming they're waterproof. I have completed a warrantee form - let's see what happens.

These boots are great! They fit great, they provide needed support and traction, and are even somewhat water resistant. But they get 2 stars because the rubber toe delaminates from the shoe. This is my second pair and both times it happened within the first week. Gonna look towards purchasing the Quest 4d Forces, in the hopes that they are more durable in toe area.

Previously I had the Salomon Quest 4D GTX Forces 2 Waterproof Tactical Boot, that was an amazing boot wore it for 2 years no issues out the box... went to buy a new boot, and the salesman said this was the upgraded version, so I thought perfect, so I bought them. I'm a cop so on my feet 12-13 hours, running, jumping, climbing, so I need reliable footwear, which this boot doesn't offer. First the toe box is huge, I sized down a half size and my toes still slide and move, the boots very heavy, my Achilles on the left foot constantly hurts, there's two pressure points at the top of the boot that cut in when walking, the heel lifts, and a he shoe laces are a foot long when tied up all the way, leaving shoelaces to trip on even double knotted. This might be a good boot for the weekend warrior, but defiantly not a work boot.

Maybe I just got a bad pair but mine had hard plastic on the inside that cut into me whenever I took a step. I doubt this was an issue of just breaking them in. Disappointed because they do look nice and have all the features I would want in a boot but there's clearly a build issue.
