The previous version of this boot (the Quest 4D 3) fit me perfectly. Super comfortable right out of the box, with amazing performance. Despite its poor durability (none of the three pairs I bought lasted very long), it was easily the best boot I've ever owned. Unfortunately, the latest version (the Quest 4) is much longer and noticeably narrower. Your mileage may vary, but it doesn't fit my foot at all. I'm crushed that I'll have to start searching for a new make and model of hiking boot. The Quest 4D 3 was that good.

I'm a huge Salomon fan. My everyday shoes, hiking and trail running shoes are all Salomon and I love them. These boots are a clear miss.
The good parts. The chassis is solid and comfortable. You'll find great stability and great comfort, as you always get with this company. The laces are good and you feel a very secure platform, even carrying heavy loads.
The sole is not durable. I've been using these on moderate-level mountains and training sessions for around 5 months now. The material is getting ragged pretty fast and I doubt they'll hold up through next year's season.
The goretex is not amazing. They are waterproof'ish, not watertight. They will hold up to mud and the occasional splash and step into a puddle. They will not hold up to a full step into water and will not hold up to snow exposure.
Not crampon compatible. In fact, the heel design makes it that universal-fit crampons don't work either. Undesirable.
They look like and are priced like a serious adventure boot. They are not. Either needs to be priced like a casual or crafted to be a professional. If you want to multi-day hike, there are much cheaper alternatives. If you want to go further beyond, these are not suitable. This is a bad in-between that you don't want to be with. As a long-time Salomon fan, stay away.

I have owned multiple pairs of Salomon quest boots over the last few years. I was hesitant about the new version released this year because of some negative reviews I read online. But after giving them a try, I'm convinced they are just as good if not better than the previous versions. The grip seems more aggressive and should last longer than the old version, that wore quick. I will definitely purchase them again. The first week I wore them i went on a backcountry deer hunt at 11k feet and the boots held up great and no break-in required. I covered steep, off trail terrain with no issues. Great grip on loose shale etc.

Most of my hikes are off trail with a heavy pack moving up, down, and across steep terrain. This is my second pair of Quest's and they crush everything in front of them. I've been happy with their quick break in period and construction to stand up to the abuse. I don't often jump in rivers to test out the waterproofing but they've remained dry through snow fields, river crossings, and a few 2 day rainstorms and wet undergrowth.
The thing I like the most from these is their stability on scree fields, or steep loose terrain. They also have a lot of support for heavy packs and don't seem to overheat from long days on the move.
I ordered a size 11 which fits me perfectly. My foot is a 10.5 on the dot when you measure it on a shoe scale. I usually wear 11 in Blundstone and 12 in Vans so I'd say these run true to size at an 11.

I needed a new pair of hiking boots that would offer support, be tough and waterproof! These boots were very comfortable and many different conditions. We hiked the Badlands which have sharp rocks, gravel, sand and the heat! Boots kept me dry and cool throughout out the activities. They survived the many hikes in the Blackhills with muddy trails, and some loose terrain. I spent a day on a dinosaur dig in Thermopolis, with rocks, sand, hard packed dirt and stayed cool all day long.
They even did a hike to head waters of the Mighty Mississippi without missing a beat. I had no issues with these boots over 10 days. We had some really high temperatures and some scattered thunderstorms to deal with. My feet, legs and back felt great at the end of the day thanks to these boots. Highly recommend these boots.

After 20 years of using my LL Bean Cresta Hiking boots I decided to stop using Shoo Goo on them and get a new pair. I liked the look of these boots, so I decided to try them out. The overall fit was good, and I found them to lightweight and sturdy, so it didn't feel like I was wearing file cabinets. Most shoes and boots have terrible shock absorption, and I'll need to add or completely replace the insole with something of much higher quality. But I have been using these as is, I have not needed to modify them. I also like how the laces are designed to not sit over and put pressure on the most sensitive part of the top of my foot.

This is the second pair of quest 4s. Durability is excellent. I average 20 miles per week hiking in rough terrain and walking on roads.

I live in a relatively remote area so mail order is really the best option. Took 4 tries to find the right boot but these were the ones. Definitely not a mountaineering boot but a great 4 season hiker. Insanely comfortable, at least for my feet. Out of the box last night and out for a 10mile 2000’ climb hike in the snow today. Felt like running shoes. Not a blister to be seen. Actually my 3rd pair of Salomon’s over the past 10years. I’m more than a little tired of the styling but they are just the best boots for what I do. 3 season hiking (I never hike in the Summer) in the Adirondacks. Lots of mud, micro spikes, snowshoe miles. Plenty of peaks and about 600 miles/yr. My previous pair just started to crack and leak recently at the leather /rubber junction at the toe. They last a solid 2-3years and for the price I think that’s plenty. Recommend!

Have worn Salomon Quest GTX for decades now. Only hiking boot that I can recommend. Great ankle support and still light. They last for many years and take hard abuse. Item is definitely worth the higher price. I have high arches so have to replace the insoles with SuperFeet high arch insoles. Highly recommended.

I love these boots! I wear them to work every day and have but thousands of miles on each pair. I'll be sad to retire these ones, but can't wait for the comfort of a new pair. Failure points are mainly where the front meets the rubber

Been out on a few hikes with them and I find the Quest 4 extremely sturdy.
Good support for the ankle and warm enough for the -10 hike I was on.
Would recommend thus far

Fit and size were great, but this is a very heavy duty hiking boot that has stiff uppers and is relatively heavy. It is highly rated and is probably an excellent match for serious back packers, but was too much boot for me.

I have owned the Q4's for the past 6 months and I wear them almost every day. I absolutely love these boots, they're seriously the most comfortable shoes/boots I have ever had on my feet! I know that probably sounds a bit inflated but they really are that comfortable.
The only downside that I have found is the rubber toe, a couple of months ago it started to separate from the leather, and I have noticed them starting to leak on rainy days. That is the only reason I didn't give them a 5 star rating.

I've used these boots a few times now. I've taken them through snow, rivers, muddy lake fields and so on. They have kept my feet dry and my ankles safe. The only time my feet got wet was when my foot slipped into a deep river, but that wasn't the boots fault. They are light and cool. I was backpacking in 90 degree weather and my feet didn't get hot which was nice. They have good grip and traction even when crossing wet rocks. This all being said I do have one complaint. After several miles of walking my feet do hurt. They aren't the most comfortable boots I've owned. I'm not sure if I need to break them in more, but I will likely be looking into an insole insert for these boots. I definitely recommend them, but just be ready to purchase an insert. Overall phenomenal boots with amazing quality.

In 2020 I bought the QUEST 4D 3 GTX boots and loved them, wore them into the ground.
Now with QUEST 4 GORE-TEX and the black support bands the boot has a cheaper look, and the sole feels much more stiff to break in. The top brackets for laces are smaller and its harder to tie. This version feels like it has gone backwards.
If the materials on the prev. boot were better I would have paid more money for the same or better quality.

Got to be the worst boots ever. Peeled at the rand got a warranty replacement and 3 months later peeling on rand again. The pair before them also leaked on the right foot. Just avoid !!!

Bought these 18 months ago.
Used in mud, ice (grip not up to vibram) but ok. Feel good.
But, they really are not waterproof. Soaked feet several times.
Ok for summer but I've gone back to my Scarpas!

Have worn this size in previous version and it fit wonderfully. Not so this time. Seems narrower and shorter. Had to size up 1/2 size.

I am thrilled with the fit and quality of these boots. Great ankle support and dry in the spring muck of Maine's mud season on my 2x a day excursions into the woods with the pooch.
