I was really excited to get this model but had to trade for a different pair as the sizing was 1.5sizes too large in my opinion.

Bought these to replace my quest 3 gtx. Those boots were fantastic. The plastic eyelits on these are the failure point. I had 1 break the 2nd time I put the boots on. I don't understand why they went to plastic from metal. I returned them and got my money back.

I bought my first pair a couple of months ago before spring turkey season and fell in love with them. I immediately began wearing them for spring turkey from beginning of April to now. I would say that I have put 50-60 miles on them so far. As far as comfort, you will not find a better boot however, my right boot leaked a little this morning causing my sock to get wet. I really didn't want to leave a review until I tested these in the field to see how they stood up to the test. I'm not sure what goretex material they are running in these but it probably needs to be looked into a little more as a boot with 50-60 miles shouldn't be leaking like this. If it weren't for that, I would give them a 5 star. I love the design which enables you to lock your heel into place with zero slipping issues when ascending. Will continue to wear but will be using Nix Wax waterproofing spray.

Had to return these, the lacing system at the forefoot was impossible for me to get a good lockdown. The bottom four lace eyelets and especially the one thought the "Active Support" have no friction for the laces to lock on to so they would slip out and equalise. The rest of the boot look good, unfortunately wasn't the boot for me this time.

Really love the boots for the most part except for the fact that Salomon made the eyelets plastic rather than metal... not sure why they did they, it's a minuscule weight saving and the weakest point on the boot. I smashed one of my eyelets on a rock and it shattered... not I have to skip it. Very poor design, I expect more from Salomon

I bought the previous version of this boot 10 months ago for my partner. He has averaged about 15 - 20k a week during that time, mainly on woodland paths and grassy trails. He has flat but quite narrow feet, and found the boots comfortable and supportive straight out of the box. However, after 10 months, the soles are very worn and the uppers have split away from the toe cap. I have sent photos to the retailer, who want me to send the boots back so they can decide whether the boot is faulty, in which case they will consider replacing them. I haven't done this because it would leave my partner without a walking boot, with no guarantee of a replacement. Even if they are not considered to be faulty, there is no doubt they aren't built for serious walking, which is a shame because otherwise I would have replaced them with this new version.

Like Roach in the reviews below I bought a pair of Quest 4D's in 2018. No major walks/hikes and a pandemic where the most exercise they got was walking our 12 year old retriever. After 2 years and a couple of months both outers started to split where the leather meets the toe protector. I am however taking the gamble that Salomon have made improvements on the latest designs and getting another pair.

I have had several pairs of quest boots over the years. My favorite is still the second generation. This particular generation is not as durable. I have had this pair for less than two years. I already have chunks of the soles missing on the bottom. The toe protection is also thinner than previous generations and is delaminating. I included pictures of both issues. You can see the pieces missing on the soles and where I used gorilla glue to glue the toe piece back on. I would show more issues, but I can only add six pictures. The leather is also lower quality than my previous generations. The leather looks very worn from getting wet only a couple of times. The traction is terrible in cold weather. This particular rubber hardens in the cold and provides little to no traction when that happens. I only have about 100 miles of hiking on these boots so far. I rotate between this pair and two other brands of hiking boots. This is the only pair of boots I've ever had these kind of issues with the sole so far. All of my other boots have Vibram outsoles. I do a lot of hiking in the rocky mountains in Colorado and some in Michigan.
The only pros I have for this generation are comfort and a nice shank. I like that the bottom of my foot is always comfortable.
Unfortunately, because of the problems with the sole, I already have to replace these. I will not buy or recommend another pair of Salomon boots until these issues are fixed

I've worn the last three generations/iterations of this boot, and this one was a tremendous disappointment. The last three boots have been ready to rock fresh out of the box but this one felt...off, so I initiated a return.
My beefs:
1) In all the previous iterations, the heel cup was deep enough that it locked my heel in and I could quickly throw on the boots to run out into the snow to grab something from the car. In this one, I almost fell out of the boot because the heel cup is virtually non-existent.
2) That big "strap" across the top of the foot (where it says "Active Support") has a huge gap between it and the fabric underneath, where I can only imagine how much dirt and small rocks will accumulate (and tear at the fabric).
3) The lace holes up to the ankle lock are so big that it's impossible to actually get a snug fit on the lower part of your foot without using one hand to hold the laces firm while tightening the lacing above with the other.
4) The lace lock on the ankle only locks in your foot, but no matter how much you crank down the top two, this boot offers no stability for your lower leg. I tightened them down as much as I could and felt like I was cutting off circulation to my lower leg, but not actually providing any ankle stability.
As I said, I've worn previous iterations of this boot for at least the last 15 years. (Maybe longer? I've been wearing them for so long that I don't remember ever not owning Salomon boots.) This felt like a cheap knockoff compared to its predecessors and was a tremendous disappointment. The only reason I didn't give it one star is that I didn't take the boot outside (where it's snowing) to give it a chance to prove its waterproofness. Every previous boot, I've felt like it was ready to take in the backcountry for a few dozen miles right out of the box. This one TOTALLY missed the mark (and makes me sad about having to try to find a new brand of affordable boots).

So far after a few short hikes the Quest 4 is still stiff & tight. No doubt this item will take more time on the trail before any comfort level is reached.

The sole was comfortable, and they probably have the most ankle support of and boot I have ever owned. However, the webbing folds in a goofy way around the toe and digs into your foot terribly. I have tried three different lace patterns and they are on the edge of tolerable... I really expected them to be more comfortable with the name that's on them.

My DH wore these last month in Iceland and were warm and waterproof. The heal separated from the footbed and he had to glue them. IMO very poor quality!

I loved the fit and feel of these Quest 4D boots when I bought them 5/26/2023. Unfortunately, pieces soon began coming off the boots and I am scared to go anywhere serious in them now. The first incident was in August as I was about to start a big (for me) three-day backpacking trip. I heard a metallic ping sound and realized one of the lower metal lace guides had popped off and ricocheted off the wall. I continued the trip without using the lower guides on that boot.
Then coming down from a day hike on Sept 14, I noticed a rubber strip along the edge of the sole flapping loose, and it came off in two more steps. Apart from quality issues, these boots have performed well for me. I expected them to be decently broken in by the end of the summer not broken and up for at least a couple more years of service, as I do not count myself as an extreme user. I am willing to give Salomon the benefit of the doubt that this may be a quality control issue related to a small number of these boots, not a widespread issue. I wish I could give a more positive review, but I cannot based on my own experience.

I've owned several different pairs of salomons.
The older version of this boot was far superior. This boot is uncomfortable out of the box and even when it's finally been broken in. Your hiker boots used to be comfortable and felt broken in brand new. Also, you guys got to include a wide foot option. Not everyone are petite Europeans.

I bought these for my trip to the Colombian mountains hoping they'd be waterproof as stated in the literature. One hour in the rain, my feet were soaked. Not pleased to say the least. If you are looking for a comfortable boot that is NOT waterproof, you may like these. My recommendation to friends goes only as far as comfort- not waterproof. Durability took a hit because of the lack ofwaterproof.

After a short 4 mile hike my left ankle was bruised so bad I couldn't continue my hike. The redesign of the Quest 4 gtx was a mistake. The upper is way too high. I have an older pair that was comfy right out of the box. Why Salomon couldn't you just leave perfection be? Gratefully, Salomon accepted my return. I bought a pair of Merrill Moab 3 boots instead. No big redesign and they feel like slippers on the trail, although not as rugged as the Salomon brand. I have three pairs of Salomon shoes/boots and absolutely love them. However, they are all older designs. The new designs unfortunately have bumped Salomon from top brand to middle of the road in my book. I'm really sad about that because I was a huge fan and wore Salomons every day for every activity.

After 6 months of ownership the leather split on the inner toe next to the plastic/nylon toe section so that the leather got waterlogged and my feet damp. The leather became brittle after drying naturally after any outing. This is the second pair of Salomon's I've had in a year which have failed quickly and wouldn't consider buying again. The company did give me a credit twice, but the third pair I know own will probably be the final Salomon I ever purchase...

I have had these boots for nearly a year. I am still wearing them but the frustration of lacing them is unbearable. This is my 5th pair and my 1st of this update. The lace lock system on these boots are terrible. Not sure why you changed to this system. You literally have to look to make sure you hook the lace into them because they get caught on the edges. Very poor design. Will not buy another pair of these boots until this is changed.

I bought my first pair in 2015. After hundreds of miles my first pair finally needed replaced. This new version is horrible compared to my previous version. The lacing system is terrible. The shoe strings slip on the top of the foot making it impossible to get them tight with only two hands. You end up with this bulge of tongue sticking up and a boot that slides around instead of being one with the foot. I did not have this problem with my original pair. Everything else seems fine but if I can't get them tight on my own then they are useless.

These don't stay dry in snow or in rain. Like all of my four pots of Salomon boots they're comfortable on trail. These breathe pretty well despite staying fairly warm down to 30F not moving or 15F if I'm moving. But since I live in California in a wet winter environment, it really limits the use that it won't even stay dry for 15 minutes of rain. Disappointed

When I first bought these boots they were high quality. Until after my 4th or 5th use when the toe cap peeled away from the exterior, rendering them fully useless. Because of this I started wearing them for work, basically walking and driving in. After a few weeks the other toe cap peeled away. Boots are now binned.

These Quest 4 boots are comfortable, fit well, are stable, give good support, and hardly took any breaking in. Durability does seem to be a big problem though, and like a lot of other reviews, the front of the boots are cracking, and the toe caps are coming away, after not many hikes. The Contagrip soles are OK, however not quite as good as their main competition for wet slippery surfaces. All in all, nice boots but the durability really needs improving.

Bought two pairs about eleven months ago after reading reviews.
I use them for walking most days and found them to live up to expectations at first.
They are comfortable, robust and completely waterproof. However, once the wet winter weather came on I found that the leather absorbs the water and takes several days to dry out, so even using each pair on alternate days meant that I often had to go out wearing boots that had not had time to dry out. Consequently, the leather on one of the pairs has started to crack and the rand has started to part company with signs of the leather at the join beginning to rot.
I would recommend these for occasional use in inclement weather only.
