I have been buying Salomon walking boots for years and I have generally been pleased with the product, comfortable, sturdy and durable. But unfortunately the quality seems to have gone downhill significantly. My previous pair broke down at the seams in a relatively short period of time. Thinking this was bad luck and trusting Salomon, I subsequently purchased a pair of Salomon Quest 4 Gore-Tex and the same problem occurred again. I would not recommend.

These boots were a warranty replacement as the upper on my previous pair split. After six walks one of the lace eyelets came off leaving two rivet holes behind. Another warranty claim followed and was dealt with quickly and efficiently. I've had Quest boots for years without issue and now the last two pairs have failed. Build quality has clearly declined and really isn't good enough for a premium boot.

SIDE OF TOEBOX SPLIT AND FAILED ON THIS PAIR OF BOOTS WHICH WAS A REPLACEMENT FOR THE FIRST PAIR WHICH ALSO FAILED IN THE SAME PLACE. THESE ARE GREAT BOOTS FOR ABOUT A MONTH AND THEN....... I WILL TRY ANOTHER PAIR SINCE IT HAS BEEN A FEW YEARS AND SALOMON HOPEFULLY HAS CORRECTED THE PROBLEM

I'm a long time, loyal Salomon boot wearer. My last pair were Quests and the rubber peeled away from the toe sooner than what I thought. I went ahead and replaced them with the newer Quest 4. Out of the box, they were exceptionally stiff from toe-to-heel. As an offtrail hiker, this meant it was constant. This did not go away and caused pain on pretty much every step on inclines. None of my other Salomon boots caused this at all. The biggest deal breaker was the rubber along the front of the foot coming away from the shoe. I owned them for ~8-10 months and it started happening during this time. And this was only over ~10 short trips. A lot of good things about these boots, but they're let down by foot pain and especially bad glue.

I love this boot but agree with many of the reviews that the sole is durable. My pair has worn through in 6 month with normal use. I have about 300 miles on them. Dont believe this statement in the product description. "Contagrip TD rubber outsoles with deep, aggressive lugs provide extended durability and maximum traction on mixed terrain"

I purchased my second pair of these boots less than a year ago. After a few months of light use one of the upper eyelets popped out. Fortunately, my local LL Bean store refunded my money since my size is no longer available anywhere in their stock. Upon further research on this boot at other stores, I found numerous reviews that have indicated similar as well as other quality issues with this boot. So disappointed since I have worn Solomon's for many years, but I won't anymore since their quality has seriously suffered!

I had these and broke them in well over 20hrs normal walking and 20 hrs hiking. When it was time to go they performed and then the ankle padding become bothersome on our first day of 3. The second day I was getting an ankle burn so I loosened them as much as possible. Then on the third day I had to switch out because of the discomfort. I'm a Solomon fan, however these didn't work out. Great boot over all and maybe a fluke on my pair. I did buy the mid version of these and they too work great. I would really like a hightop for support and keeping stuff out of my shoe. Good Luck

I bought these boots at a discount during the summer for fall/winter hiking. After two hiking trips this fall the rubber sole has a bad tear. I've bought 5 pairs of boots before this one and never had a problem with any other styles. Very disappointed.

These seem decent all around, but the crease at the toes absolutely crushes my toes with every step. I wore them for days, hoping they would break in, but it was too painful to continue. Returning.

Owned multiple pairs of the Quest boots thru the years that endured much hiking and wear. These I have had for 3 short months and they were very hard to break in compared to the previous pairs I have owned and the eyelet popped out of the boot. Have been trying to call the warranty dept, but keep only getting the busy signal. I hope they go back to the drawing board for the next design and look back at what worked well for them. Very disappointed!!

Just a quick note but these boots really are great! So often bigger boots are really designed to handle heavy Loads and are not really as comfortable or maybe useable for shorter 10 k hikes and the like. These boots can do it all! I have worn them on longer hikes, as noted aboveshorter walks and hikes but in variable terrain. I really love them and yes, I wear them as a winter boot as well. Ya May as well get as much use out of a boot as possible. These ones do a great job! They are true to size and I often feel they are more for a narrow foot especially when I just try them on for the first time. Never worry your regular width foot will slip in and be comfortable in no time. Hope this helps.

I have owned Salomon shoes for decades. I considered them to be top tier. No hiking boot has ever topped the Ultra 3 in my opinion. Comfortable, durable, waterproof, warm. Built like tank. Great in desert scree in the summer and with gaiters and snow pants in three feet of snow in the winter. The Quest 4? Built more like a Willy's jeep. Not as robust, lighter construction, non-metal lacing. A deal breaker? I didn't think so, so I ignored the reviews and YouTube vids and ordered a pair. One shoe fits well. The other? Way too narrow where the "active support" strap comes up on the inside. Uncomfortable, not near as durable. I have worn them four times and hiked maybe 20 miles and one of the lace "locks" for your ankle is pulling through the vamp. DO NOT BUY. Salomon: BRING BACK THE ULTRA 3. Now to deal with returning these lemons

Tried several competitor boots / models (Asolo, Zamberlan, others) and did not find the proper fit for backpacking. The Salomon boot was a last ditch effort and to my surprise it was the best boot I found due to half sizes (12.5). I hiked all over Yellowstone National Park thus summer and the Salomon boots are excellent. Hot days, wet trails, stream crossings, high and low elevations, combined with Darn Tough mid weight socks, the Salomon boots are excellent performance gear. Highly recommended.

Nowhere near even mildly impressed. Within 2 months the outer rubber sole of the right boot started to separate from the foam outer. The outer rubber sole on the left boot just started to shred and fall apart. Unfortunely sent the boots back before taking any pictures. Do not, will not recommend. The only reason it has 1 star durability is because it wont allow 0.

Comfortable boot out of the box, not super bad but when I compare them to my previous (discontinued) boot, the Haix Mission, these Quest 4D's pretty well suck. How is it that my old Haix boots lasted me a little less than 7 years of daily abuse and these Quests only made it 10.5 months before they started to fall apart? ..but wait, there's more. Perhaps I should've gotten the forces model instead of these Civnasty ones. It's the eyelets, after the locker, up on the ankle. On the non-forces model, these are only half eyelets where you can just hook your lace, while on the forces, you have to run the aglet through them because they are fully enclosed eyelets. These half eyelets have been a problem for me on countless occasions. They catch on my pants legas in on the opposite leg, as in, the right eyelet catches on my left pant leg and I've bit it a couple of times, but most times I'm able to catch myself but this is a HUGE ISSUE, for anyone considering buying the civvy version, this is considerably dangerous and one should take caution. I'll try the forces model next and if those start to fail in less than a year like these ones, well then, I guess I won't be buying Solomon boots again.

I got a 2nd pair after enjoying my first set for a couple years. 1st boots were comfortable right out of the box and I used them frequently. This replacement pair I got is completely 180 degrees opposite. I took them out for an initial trial run and I couldn't wait to get them off. I actually had to stop and take them off several times they hurt so bad. Comparing the two pairs of boots (because I couldn't believe how diametrically opposite they felt) they (Salomon) added some hard backing to the upper eyelet near your ankle bone and shifted it down a bit (pictured). Presumably to strengthen the eyelet but at the complete expense of comfort. With your hand inside the boot you can feel this new backing protruding. It ground into my ankle especially downhill or side-hilling. Used to love this boot but never again.

They have managed to completely ruin this boot. My first pair was great! Very comfortable right out of the box. Wore them all over and enjoyed them. Ordered what I would have thought was an identical 2nd pair to replace the first. Took them out for a first (and only) hike. Completely opposite reaction. Extremely uncomfortable to the point of pain and bruising. Examining and comparing my old pair to the new, it appears that some type of bulkier backing was added to the upper lace eyelets and the upper eyelet on the inner side has been shifted down about 1/4 inch. Feeling inside the boot, the backing of this eyelet in the new boots is protruding much more than in my old pair. Apparently strengthening the lace point at the complete expense of comfort. Trying them on in my house I didn't notice anything. But when I was in the mountains and started hiking on a slope, especially downhill or side hill, or this new eyelet backing would grind into my feet around my ankle bones. Had to stop multiple times on a short 4-5 mile hike trying to find a way to minimize the pain. Unwearable. Getting rid of them immediately. Photo shows altered lace eyelet with "new" boot on top

I made three hikes in these. On my first hike (about 8 miles and 1000 foot elevation gain) they felt great - way above average for a new pair of boots. My second hike was 25 miles with over 4000 foot elevation gain. The end of the hike was five miles of down hill (4000 foot drop) and by the last couple of miles my legs, right at the top of the boot, was hurting so much that I had to completely unlace them - it was sore for 4-5 days after. I thought I would give them one more try. Another 8 mile hike with just under 3000 feet of elevation gain. I loosened the boots before the down hill and that relieved a lot of the pain but chunks of the sole started to come off on both boots! Definitely not worth the money and I am returning them. Very disappointing, both because they were expensive and because they were really good fitting straight out of the box. Toe box was the most comfortable I have had. The bottom of the three speed laces are a little hard to work with, but I could live with that if the boot was otherwise of better quality.

I bought these to replace my old Quest's that were amazing. I am very disappointed in the new design. These are uncomfortable, the lacing system is a pain, and they are impossible to lace tight enough with small ankles.

Was so excited about my new boots being delivered yesterday, I decided to take them out on the local trails around the lake. I walked a mile on flat, easygoing, dirt paths before an eyelet fell off! I noticed and placed it back into the holes and finished my walk. Upon returning to the car I noticed the eyelet was missing again! I searched on the trail but could not find it. For the price of these boots I am very disappointed in the quality. I am thankful I noticed the issue on a test run rather than 20 miles into a backpacking trip. I can only imagine how they would hold up then. A similar issue happened to a pair of salomon shift 130 ski boots I ordered this previous winter. After a week of use, a screw on a buckle came loose and fell out. At the time I chalked it up.to heavy use in rough terrain and luckily I had a replacement. I enjoy Salomon products for their performance but will be avoiding in the future because of poor quality. I need my gear to be tough and rugged, especially when paying premium prices.

This is my 3rd pair and 3rd generation of the Quest 4 boots that I've owned. The 1st pair, 1st gen blew me away with their quality, durability, comfort and performance. Unfortunately I cannot say the same for the current line. They are not holding up like previous generation's, nor are they as comfortable. The quality, durability and comfort just isn't there. The tounge has already worn through the mesh of the upper creating 2 holes. As well as the toecap is already beginning to separate from the leather. I've only had these boots for 2 months. This should not happen with any boot, much less one at this price point. I purchased 2 pairs when I bought these thinking I'd be good for the next few years. At this rate I'll be lucky to make through a year with both pairs. I expected better Salomon.
