Bought another pair last month. They used to be great shoes. However this pair are the absolute worst shoes Ive purchased.

Salomon was my favorite footwear for several years. But the horrible quality of my latest pair of these will stop me from ever again ordering from them. The latest pair, which are unwearable due to a flaw that pushes on my big toe joint when I walk, were a replacement for a pair that had one boot sole disintegrate after less than 120 wearings. That was my second use of their generous replacement policy. But I would rather have reliable and comfortable boots, so I need a new favorite bootmaker. Attached photo shows the ridge that doesn't bend when walking and causes pain. I am going to try to remedy it today, but thought to review first.

I've worn the last three generations/iterations of this boot, and this one was a tremendous disappointment. The last three boots have been ready to rock fresh out of the box but this one felt...off, so I initiated a return. My beefs: 1) In all the previous iterations, the heel cup was deep enough that it locked my heel in and I could quickly throw on the boots to run out into the snow to grab something from the car. In this one, I almost fell out of the boot because the heel cup is virtually non-existent. 2) That big "strap" across the top of the foot (where it says "Active Support") has a huge gap between it and the fabric underneath, where I can only imagine how much dirt and small rocks will accumulate (and tear at the fabric). 3) The lace holes up to the ankle lock are so big that it's impossible to actually get a snug fit on the lower part of your foot without using one hand to hold the laces firm while tightening the lacing above with the other. 4) The lace lock on the ankle only locks in your foot, but no matter how much you crank down the top two, this boot offers no stability for your lower leg. I tightened them down as much as I could and felt like I was cutting off circulation to my lower leg, but not actually providing any ankle stability. As I said, I've worn previous iterations of this boot for at least the last 15 years. (Maybe longer? I've been wearing them for so long that I don't remember ever not owning Salomon boots.) This felt like a cheap knockoff compared to its predecessors and was a tremendous disappointment. The only reason I didn't give it one star is that I didn't take the boot outside (where it's snowing) to give it a chance to prove its waterproofness. Every previous boot, I've felt like it was ready to take in the backcountry for a few dozen miles right out of the box. This one TOTALLY missed the mark (and makes me sad about having to try to find a new brand of affordable boots).

I bought these boots to take on a 7 day pack trip in the Bridger - Teton wilderness. On day 3 it started raining and then rained for three consecutive days! I will testify that these boots are waterproof! I wore the Quest 4 boots along with Darn Tough Merino wool socks and my feet stayed dry. We were committed to the trip lol, we were around 50 miles in the wilderness when it started raining. Our gear made the difference between a memorable experience and a miserable experience. I cant say how durable the Quest boots are yet but so far I like them. They are comfortable, easy to break in, and definitely waterproof.

Ive had them a little over 2 years slightly past the warranty. Ive only wore them a handful of times mostly in an urban environment and once or twice on a dry dirt trail. They still look fairly new and have been well cared for. One of the lace holders came off and doesnt stay on. I emailed customer service multiple times with all the information needed and they reply every time saying they still need the information I previously gave them. All of this nonsense for them to tell me thanks for your business but we wont cover you. Never buying from them again. Highly recommend you stay away. Ive bought from other brands that have covered their product over a lifetime and replaced it no questions asked.

I love these boots! Aesthetically, they look great AND they feel great. In the time that I had them, they kept my feet dry, warm, and after miles of hiking I didn't get blisters. They are awesome! Additionally, Salomon offers a great warranty. I did run into a problem with the boots down the road (a piece of the tread broke) but Salomon took care of the problem and are setting me up with a new pair that I re-ordered.

I have owned Salomon shoes for decades. I considered them to be top tier. No hiking boot has ever topped the Ultra 3 in my opinion. Comfortable, durable, waterproof, warm. Built like tank. Great in desert scree in the summer and with gaiters and snow pants in three feet of snow in the winter. The Quest 4? Built more like a Willys jeep. Not as robust, lighter construction, non-metal lacing. A deal breaker? I didnt think so, so I ignored the reviews and YouTube vids and ordered a pair. One shoe fits well. The other? Way too narrow where the active support strap comes up on the inside. Uncomfortable, not near as durable. I have worn them four times and hiked maybe 20 miles and one of the lace locks for your ankle is pulling through the vamp. DO NOT BUY. Salomon: BRING BACK THE ULTRA 3. Now to deal with returning these lemons

Comfortable but not meant for serious off trail hiking or anything very cold or where you're walking through snow. Not what I expected for the price point.

I use Salomon Quest boots for a wide range of activities; walking the dogs, day walks, scrambling, multi day expeds in the UK, and 6000m peaks in the Himalaya (in snow!) They are super comfy straight out of the box and are a joy to put on. However, they do not last and the normal cause of failure is the soles becoming detached. Most of mine have survived less than 2 years, some failed within 9 months. As an outdoor instructor I need to be able to rely on my kit to deliver. If durability were improved these would truly be excellent boots.

I bought my 1st set in May. I wore them around to make sure they didn't need a break in period. most comfortable boot I have worn and zero break in. I used them for an elk hunt in September and after 95 miles of off trail in extreme conditions the sole near the outside edge tore. I had my wife order another pair. The new pair arrived and I finished the hunt. I contacted Salomon and they warrantied the first pair. Absolutely love these boots and the customer service and standing behind their product.

Im on my 2nd pair that has failed! I have only worn this pair for less than 2 months! They were the most comfortable and durable boots I usually owned, but the last 3 pair keep coming apart on the toe cap.

I have worn this style for over 5 years. Im currently wearing my second pair with a third that will be used once this pair lives its life. I hike with these, work on our property in Northern Minnesota with them and work at a farm/greenhouse prepping for the coming growing season. They stay laced, are truly waterproof, have great traction and fit my feet (I have bunions) The mens style works best for my feet. I would and do recommend to people/friends that notice or ask about these boots. Comfortable fit right out of the box too!

I used my boots for the first time yesterday and the right foot kept being pressed by something on the side. When I came home and took if off, I noticed that it's the small design on the side that is hard rubber that can be felt from the inside. Not a comfortable feeling. Overall, just as good as prior boots but that piece keeps bugging me!

Very impressed! I have logged over 55 miles of off-trail hiking while Elk hunting as well as trail hiking during backpacking trips. These boots have excelled through multiple terrain changes including water crossings, mud, jagged rock, steep mountain slopes, etc. Theyve provided unparalleled support and stability across trips in Oklahoma and the Colorado Rocky Mountains. Never any blisters or hotspots despite seeing companions experience those issues with similar tier boots from other well-known companies. Highly recommended!

Been a salomon person for years for perfect fit, dang fine conta-grip(s) everything soles for summer and winter. These quests are replacing 2 year old pair that cracked/split at the toebox bumper after weeklong bow hunt in bad weather. 70% tread left, not mad based on the abuse taken and surefootedness provided.

Bought for Scout hike to Philmont. Easy to break in. Comfortable. Performed well during practice hikes - about under 100 miles. On last day of Philmont trek, heel sole came partially detached from the boot. Had to duct tape to finish the trip. Really suboptimal. Filed a warranty claim for replacement. Will see how this replacement pair holds up!

I got a 2nd pair after enjoying my first set for a couple years. 1st boots were comfortable right out of the box and I used them frequently. This replacement pair I got is completely 180 degrees opposite. I took them out for an initial trial run and I couldnt wait to get them off. I actually had to stop and take them off several times they hurt so bad. Comparing the two pairs of boots (because I couldnt believe how diametrically opposite they felt) they (Salomon) added some hard backing to the upper eyelet near your ankle bone and shifted it down a bit (pictured). Presumably to strengthen the eyelet but at the complete expense of comfort. With your hand inside the boot you can feel this new backing protruding. It ground into my ankle especially downhill or side-hilling. Used to love this boot but never again.

Comfort, warm, stylish and rugged. A little heavy on the feet, but I still love them. Got them for a Colorado trip, walked all day for hours in 3-ft of snow for week up in the mountains and did not feel the cold or snow at all with them. JR
