On my 4th pair of these boots, the new ones with the arch strap take a bit of getting used too. Great boot for varied terrain, waterproof tested and works. Look after them and they will last. Usually have to replace due to wearing the treads out. Used daily.

These boots are my second pair. Great support. I wear them just about every day. Didn't take me long to break in. The design of the boot has changed a bit. Actually for the better. Last pair lasted about two years.

Really disappointed that this new version Quest 4 GTX is a far less comfortable version of the Quest 4D 3 GTX which I loved. The newly added plastic "Active Support System" rubs my foot There is significantly less ankle padding and a narrower more awkward tongue. The fit is a bit wider. Why make all these changes from the Quest 4D 3 GTX which was loved by so many owners (even if it did leak after a year or so, like its predecessors).

The first pair I owned were made in China and were super comfortable and durable. The second pair were comfortable out of the box but fell apart and leaked and were made in Vietnam. I now have a third pair which don't fit me as well as the earlier models and are made in Cambodia. I wish designers wouldn't keep changing the deatils that work.

I've had my boots right around a year. Hiked somewhere around 150 miles on the Buffalo National River as a weekend enthusiast. These boots are my all time favorite! The locking lace system helps my ankles feel supported beyond measure. Love the waterproofing, unless I get in deep water my feet say DRY! The double toe, you could kick a tank and won't feel it! My only complaint, I wish this boot's sole had the textured lugs found on the pricier Forces boot. I've found the bottom can be slick at times. Aside from that minor issue this boot is Killer! Love them!!!! Also, I hope the textured lugs do help because I will be buying the Quest Forces boot soon for my next setup!

Salomon Quest 4 GORE-TEX review. I purchased these boots on recommendation from my doctor. I suffer from Hallux rigidus requiring injections every 3 months in an effort to reduce the pain. I purchased a pair eight months ago, albeit skeptical, yet my first impression was WOW, what a comfortable boot. I was at the three month mark and realized I didn't feel the need to schedule an appointment with my doctor, in fact I was able to double the time needed for injections. Six months, my next doctor visit left him blown away as well, the Quest 4 was the star of the show! The feel, and fit was so natural, like a pair of socks. The only issue was the nylon liner in the first lace loop pulled away every now and then I would hear squeak from my left boot sole. Seven months and still comfortable as ever. However, no longer waterproof and squeaking from sole more frequent. Eight months, and my Quest 4 boots remain as comfortable as ever. Unfortunately I have noticed the the protective toe cap separating from the leather and the soles front bumper is pulling away from toe cap. The frequent squeaky sole has now progressed to constant. In closing I will give 5 stars for comfort, fit, and function. I will go with 3 stars due to material quality failures. Overall 4 stars and I highly recommend the Quest 4 especially if you have medical foot issues. I shall return soon with a one year update. Thank Salomon for build a near perfect boot, less the shortcomings noted.

I've had about 3 weeks working in the snow with these boots, and they have preformed wonderfully! Surprisingly warm for uninsulated boots but not so warm that they cannot be worn in a heated building. Good tread- they seem to grip everything I step onto great waterproofing- haven't had wet socks once.

I bought these a year and a half ago, and used them for some decent long hikes. Took a painful while to break-in but ended up being comfy and perfect for hiking in. Generally comfy for my feet (odd blister but I get these with almost every shoe). I started using them as daily boots for a standing-up job, so they got a lot of miles in. Due to my flooring at work, the soles have worn down to the point they aren't waterproof. This is regular wear and tear so acceptable. However, they are starting to come apart at the seams where the fabric joins the sole, which is unfortunate. I have received a refund for these, and will likely replace them, but be aware of this failure from heavy use. I suspect if used infrequently for hiking in, they'd have lasted much longer, so I will only deduct a single star for the actual failure - all other damage to me is acceptable wear and tear.

Bought Fall 2021 and wore to break them in during fall and winter couple of times a month in preparation for the coming summer. Wore these boots for Summer 2022 as a beginner trekker. I have no complaints wearing them. They feel like good boots. Better than anything I've worn previously. Though these are my first expensive shoes. I did have to pick a pair that's considerably larger number than my foot size. Salomon's of my size were really small. Ordering online not recommended, try them out before buying. I am having issues with blisters though. I picked a size that leaves a thumb-size breathing room for the toes wearing a combinatio of liner- and merino wool socks. My toes were aching after a days hike regularily and I replaced the insoles with expensive arch-supporting ones after I had a toenail take extensive damage. (Resulted in it peeling off entirely). The new insoles removed the hurting toes-issue entirely. I also get blisters under my toes if wearing two socks, or while wearing no liner socks, I instead get blisters around the heels. I cycle socks every few hours or so on the trail. So dry socks aren't helping. Water has not come through the boots while walking on submerged duckboards The shoes dry out relatively quickly if given the chance, after a days hike or after a night of absorbing moisture from the surrounding climate. I walk with a backpack weighing 1/4 of my weight with the support of trekking poles. The high ankle support has high likely saved me from a few rough twists. Impacts with roots or the shoe lodging into rock/root crevices have protected my toes and feet from all potential direct pain and damage. About 200km/125miles behind me and I'm seeing first signs of the toe guard rubber peeling off on the sides of both shoes. Attempting to combat this with shoe-glue. I can not tell whether this is due to how I use the boots or whether it's an intentional or unintentional result of the boots shock absorption design. My main concern all in all is whether a better choice in boots would result in less blisters, or more boot durability. My knowledge in choosing right footwear isn't good enough to figure it out. But the Solomon Quest 4 GTX's have have been a loyal and reliable pair of boots keeping me on the trail rather than the hospital for average distances of 20km/12miles a day with a heavy backpack.

My husband wears these daily. This is the 4th pair purchased. He is in the nursery agriculture business and is hard on boots. These are his favorite boots and they last him about a year. The most recent boot has a stiffer shaft, which causes ankle pain. They are still his go to boot for work.

Salomon is one of the few shoe/boot companies that offers men's size 12.5 D. I've been forced to wear size 12 and 13 from other mfg's. constantly searching for a 12 that runs large, or a 13 that runs small. I'm so happy to find these Salomon's in 12-1/2. I'm not super happy about the color, thus the reason for 4 of 5 stars. Other than that, these boots appear to be very well made. I especially like the lacing system and the sole/support design.

Poor SupportGreat Support
These are highly structured in that they fit more like a ski boot (no surprise I guess). They have good cushioning and provide lots of support but this comes at the cost of restricting foot motion. Ironically, they did not provide much support for my ankles which is critical for me. These are nice boots but don't work for me. For comparison, I also tired Lowa Taurus Pros, Scarpa Boreas, and La Sportiva Ultra Raptor Mids. The Lowas provided very good ankle support but not enough cushioning or arch support for me. Surprisingly I found the toe box a bit small. The Scarpas fall somewhere in between these two in terms of cushioning and support. The Raptors were too small for me but I intend to get then in a larger size because these may the perfect fit for me with good cushioning and support.

I previously had used the Quest Prime GTX extensively over the last two summers. I wore them exclusively for doing forestry, wildfire mitigation and vegetation management type work. They got plenty of abuse and held up well for what I put them through. The Quest 4D is a similar feel with a few more features than the Prime. It's a bit more stable feeling. Sole feels a bit more grippy, and overall the Quest 4D seems slightly more durable. Same roomy fit ( I have a medium width, medium high arch foot). My foot measures out to 27cm with a sock, so I went with the 9.5 US. Felt a bit big at first, but has broken in nicely and I have good width and toe wiggle room, so I would say about perfect for me fit-wise. I can be on my feet for 6-8 hours a day without issue in the Quest 4D in all kinds of terrain. So far a great purchase for me. Considering the almost daily and rough use the boots get, I'll be happy if I get a full summer season out of them, which is about 6 months or so. Thanks Salomon!

I have owned 3 pair in total. Over the years. 1st couple pair lasted me a little over 3 yrs. That's good in my world. I use them every day. This last pair I had about a year and had issues with them. Contact customer service. They requested information and proof of purchase. ( all in the Warrenty info) they warrented them. I just ordered a replacement pair. Unfortunately they didn't have my size so, I am going to try "X ULTRA TREK GORE-TEX"

I have tested this pair of boots and I found that working for 8 hours in the rain and snow was pretty amazing. Once I tighten my shoe laces I felt an instant firmness and stability while standing still, then while walking and walking faster over the snow was even gripper. Under 9 degrees Fahrenheit wearing a light pair of socks I wasn't feeling cold, it kept my feet very warm at all times. Under heavy rain the Gore-tex on this pair kept my feet dry even when I stepped deep in the mix of ice and water. I still walked carefully under black ice and it seems that my ankle was tight and firm that I could even manage my imbalances. 95 percent I spent working over pasture and I felt secure. I hope it will last me a while since they aren't cheap. So far I have 2 pairs of the same model. I do recommend theses boots to anyone.

I finally hung up my old boots, which were an earlier generation of these boots. Still feel solid, sure-grip, even the lacing feels the same. However, the new generation is longer, even though I bought the same size.

Once a week hiker here, and thought I had found the perfect boot. And honestly it was. For two years. Most comfortable, lightweight and seemingly durable boot I ever had. But two years in on a very rainy day hike in Ireland they broke up with me- the seams on both just gave in and my feet were soaked. I'm curious if this is the lifespan of what I can expect, as while I am not a hiker every weekend, I do a lot of one day a week moderate hikes (less in winter)? But not one to just write of what was such a great boot, I am going to try a new pair this holiday season, as for those two years they were without question the best boot I every had.

dont get to wear them much since wife got me to this southern ontario place but when i can find some kind of trail they seem to have lots of support and seem to breath ok. just came back from trip home to vancouver island and went in the woods for 5 days hiking and camping. pretty wet but feet stayed dry and comfortable . only complaint would be about the laces seem pretty long but that could just be me since all of my shoes have the quicklace system

I've had these boots for almost two years. Most people will complain that they haven't lasted "two seasons" but my boots easily have over 500 miles on them. Straight out of the box they were ready to go, required no break in period which I loved because my feet didn't get murdered. My boots have been through 3 Montana trips one of the trips temperatures dropped to below zero and that was the only time I couldn't handle the cold in the boots. For not being insulated, I was amazed. They have also been up and down Mt Whitney, have done hundreds of miles of off trail scouting, hunting, and shooting trips. I would say they've been waterproof, but like any leather boot when water or morning dew start to soak the leather it can dampen your socks a bit if you don't apply any wax on them. Even then, my last 50 miles on them was my Idaho elk hunt. I thought they were too worn and would provide no water protection at that point. The only reason I took them was because my new boots would of destroyed my feet since they were not broken in. Hiking out on my last day I fell off a beaver dam and I went into the water about knee deep. I knew then that the boots were still water proof because for the last two miles of that hike water would not leave my boot. I was too lazy to stop and dump the water out and air my feet out since I was excited to be heading out. I loved how comfortable they were, I love the stability and the grip they provide and I loved the use I was able to get out of them. Like most of the reviews I've read on here, the rubber does begin to separate from the leather very early on which is a bummer, but it did not seem to compromise the boot.
