Fit great and felt good but tried a hike after a night of rain and slid on EVERY rock that wasnt perfectly level. It can feel good on my foot all day but if i have to tip toe across a mountain ridge to not eat dirt it's not worth buying.

This is about the the newest edition of Alras Mens Timp2. s I loved these shoes so much I tried to think it was me that was the problem. I thought it was me. I thought there is something wrong with my right-foot, inside the foot, down towards the big toe. After multi-day hikes I I basically had to use crutches. A trip to Scotland was basically ruined after three days. I was thinking arthritis, some kind of exotic gout, bone deformity....I went to the orthopedist, x-rays, Mobic, .. nothing showed up. These shoes felt so great, I did not occur to me it could be the shoe. I FINALLY took a look and the tongue material or more specifically the attachment of the tongue to the inside of the shoe on the inside (instep, inseam) looks to be missewn or something, leading to an anomaly vs the left shoe which is much more consistent and smooth. I just went to this Altra went website and I have now seen other indications of the same. Enlightening but at the same time devastating. I have the JMT coming up. Now what? I cant help but to question whether VF Corps purchase of Altra a couple of years ago, has contributed to the mis-design and/or mis execution?

These are nothing like the 1.5's. These are more narrow and barely any toe room. Feels like it missing something on the top also. Please bring back the wider toe box on these shoe. Only good thing is the traction. Will be returning.

I really appreciate and like the added cushion over the Lone Peak, my previous trail shoes for 5 + years. The heal is great, the mid foot is good. The overall cushioning on long, 3+ hour runs is great. The toe box sucks!!! It feels like I might was well buy a dress shoe fitting trail shoe. What happened to the Alta mantra of a foot shaped toe box so your toes could splay out and articulate naturally? I'll run them for about 150 miles and go back to the Lone Peak. It may wear out quicker, but it fits like a "natural" foot shaped shoe should. I would not recommend this shoe.

This shoe was disappointing. I had two pairs of the original Timp Trails. They were excellent in fit as long as you went a size up from normal. These on the other hand are nothing like the shoe they replaced. The foot bed is far too narrow. The upper over the foot is far too tight and basically makes the shoe unwearable. If you have skinny feet then these might work for you. This completely missed the mark for Altra. I was actually looking forward to having a black shoe from them but I guess I will have to look elsewhere. Again if you are expecting a shoe with more room look elsewhere. Every aspect is smaller than the previous version.

Long time Altra man here. I had two pairs of the Timp 1.5's and ran several Ultra's in them. They were great. My only complaint with the old version was weight and the fact that the midsole seemed to compress and deaden over the long term. Enter the 2.0's... I didn't even have to go for a run in them to determine they would not work. I am not sure why manufacturers keep going with welded tongue overlays on certain shoes. Hoka, Arcteryx, and now Altra! As another reviewer has mentioned because the design of the tongue overlay (you can see in the attached image, it comes to a triangular point on top of where your toe joint is) when the shoe creases that harder piece digs into the top of your toes. It leads to blisters, raw skin, and pain. I really wanted the Quantic outsole and a more streamlined Timp package but I cannot run in these shoes. I do also agree that the midfoot is very tight, even for my "standard" sized feet. That wouldn't have been the deal breaker but I do find this shoe to fit very differently from other Altras. Sorry Altra.

Love other Altra shoes I own. As to Timp 2 - not enough volume in the toe-box, as others have indicated. When I take a step, I can feel the shoe rubbing against the top of my foot (where it bends). It's going back.

Very disappointed in the 2. Normally I have no issues with changes in shoes from version to version and think each version should be a little different but this was a very large move in the wrong direction from my standpoint. I owned the 1.5s and really liked them. The toe box on these is noticeably narrower and basically the same as the brooks cascades I also bought. Generally the shoe width fits correctly and as expected but they have cut a lot of volume from the toe box and now fit like any other standard shoe. My best guess is they are trying to move from a niche product to more of a mass market appeal that no longer matches their marketing of the unique toebox. These are essentially just any other zero drop trail shoe but with a more rounded toe. If you had the 1.5s I would recommend going up half a size. The 11 fit me the same lengthwise as the 10.5s in the timp 1.5.

Not as tall in the toe box as the Timp 1.5 version. After one wearing, I can feel my feet rubbing. I will not wear again. This reminds me of the change that was made between Lone Peak 3.5 and 4.0. Bleck. The lack of vertical height rubs on the top of my feet. My Lone Peak 4.0s gave me cysts on the top of my feet (that lasted months) after just 20 miles in the Smokies when the 3.5s always fit like a glove. Please bring back architecture of the Timp 1.5s. I also want that heel flap back. Helps stabilize each step on rugged rocky terrain.

Both previous TIMPs were my favorite shoes ever -- despite unpredictable quality issues -- but the 2 is a different story altogether. I have nothing to add to other reviews saying these are now too narrow and feature hard spots that rub against the top of the big toe. If no one else has said the heel cup also feels insecure now, I'll add that.

It pains me to write this review. I've been a loyal wearer of Altra for almost 5 years. But this update has me shaking my head. My biggest complaint is that none of the highlights listed in the overview of the shoe is actually there. The trademark "Footshape Toebox" seems to be a blanket term now used for any shoe on the Altra lineup, regardless of adequate space. I compared this shoe to my other Altra models, and the forefoot is significantly narrower, in spite of seemingly reduced forefoot width across all models of shoes recently. I had to stop 3 times in the first five miles of a trail run to allow my toes to wiggle and relieve pressure from how narrow the forefoot is. Furthermore, it's been pretty well stripped of all cushion and feels more like a responsive road flat with some lugs added to the bottom. It bears very little resemblance to its predecessor. I personally find this very frustrating when I am buying a pair of shoes assuming I am getting something at least somewhat comparable to previous models. Much like when "The One" was updated to "The OneV3" which bore NO resemblance to its predecessor. Just rename it and list it as a new model. Don't offer an "update" when it bears very little resemblance to the previous model. Finally, the sleeker approach to the new Timp creates a situation where trail gaiters do not remain affixed to the shoe which is problematic in rainy and muddy spring months. Just as an observation from a concerned customer: It feels like much of what drew us to Altra to begin with is now being stripped away. We come here for comfortable shoes with enough room for our toes to breathe. I received neither of those with this update.

I purchased this shoe from Ultra.com on the 30 day guarantee. I put about 30 miles in. As many have mentioned the new temp is snug in the midfoot, but I think this is a good thing as it feels secure, not sloppy. The toe box to me still has room to splay, granted not as much as the 1.5 but enough. With the security in the mid foot I think the 2.0 will be better for the descents keep the foot in place and not beating the toes up. The cushioning is nice under foot. With all that being said I had to return the Timp 2.0. The major issue and the only issue that was the no go for me was the pressure on top of the toes. The shoe material at the bottom of the laces above the toes was just too tight and caused issues on toe off. A little more height volume in this area would have made the timp 2.0 a winner for me, so close and sadly disappointed. I hope this will be addressed in the 2.5.

I go through 5 pairs of trail Altras each year of different cushioning levels, including a few pairs of Timp 1.5. I have tried the Timp 2 for about 100 miles so far, so I cannot comment on it's long-term durability yet. There are some features that are an improvement over the Timp 1.5. The heel fit is tighter and the heel locks better. Similarly the mid-foot fits better, somewhat tighter and the foot does not slip forward on steep downhills. Also the shoe does have a springier, more bouncy, "faster" feel. The outsole has an improved grip. There are also some disadvantages that in my opinion make it overall inferior to the 1.5. The overall volume in the front and front upper of the show is decreased uncomfortably. The upper front is definitely narrower. The height in the toes area feels significantly reduced. The width in the front is somewhat reduced to the point that my toes feel just a little squeezed. To alleviate these issues I would have to go one size up, but then the foot would move too much inside the show. This shoe is supposedly for long trail runs and ultras, yet my feet cannot tolerate it more than 15 miles at a time, but for these distances I can use the LP. I could not take the Timp 2 to any race longer than a half-marathon. I have also noticed a trend over the years for a somewhat narrower front in all types of Altras. In my opinion this is a mistake and something Altra needs to pay attention to; other brands are coming up with wide sizes while Altras are shrinking. Luckily I still have a few pairs of 1.5s in my stockpile while looking forward to Timp 2.5, that will hopefully combine the best of the 1.5 and the 2 !

I have hiked over a thousand miles in Timps and having wide feet that after 15+ miles can swell a bit, prior incarnations of this shoe gave ample room. I also often wear Correct Toes in my shoes and the new model is just too snug. I can't where it for long hikes and have had to find old models online. I did like the cushioning in the sole but the narrower fit outweighs any improvement. Why is Altra always taking a great shoe, and making it so snug that it can't be worn by those of use with wider feet and without any wider options, I may have to explore other brands of trail shoes.

I have been running in your shoes for years, loved them. Now very much reconsidering changing brands. Past year I have very disappointed in both new designs and over quality. Bottom line they don't fit near as good as they did before, the shoes are getting more narrow and the shoes no longer have any durability compared to years ago. Please go back to making wider shoes with better quality again. I don't think I would every do a longer run in these shoes, do how tight the top of the toe box is.

I have worn the Timp 1.5 men's shoes for a year or so. I think I had three pairs in a row and really liked them. The toe box of the Timp 2.0 is different in shape and about a quarter inch narrower where I need the width the most. It caused foot pain for me and I had to stop wearing it.

Unfortunately, in a quest to make these more performance oriented, Altra made these almost unwearable to a lot of folks. I love the 1.5 and was hoping that these were an jmprovement. They feel much narrower, at least a half size too small and the volume in the toebox is crazy small. Like potentially black toenails small. Major bummer in a lot of ways because the Timp is like a staple in the hiking, and running world. I'll wait to get the next update and hopefully stock up on some 1.5s at cheaper prices.

I've been wearing Altras for trail and road running for a while now and I have to say I was really excited about these shoes. I use the Torin 4s, Superior 4s and Solstice XT for my weekly rotation and I love them all and I was especially excited to add a med/ max cushion trail shoe for longer trail runs. I gave them a fair shot on a training run this week and then again yesterday and I am definitely returning them. Like other reviews have said: the fit is too narrow. Compared to the superiors (which have an amazing fit IMO) the shoes feel tight in the upper around the mid foot and caused numbness in my big toe and little toe. Even with a little wearing in the numbness never improved in my second run. Also, even though they feel tight, I felt hot spots developing on the downhills indicating to me there is some movement in the shoe due to an improper fit. Things I really liked about the shoe are the quantic midsole, really nice bounce and cushion to this shoe. I felt like the outsole was a little tougher than previous versions, the stack height is a perfect balance between cushioned ride but still can handle some technical downhill. My perfect shoe would be the superior raised to 25mm with a tough vibram outsole.

The upper speed lace fitting on my second pair of Salomon XA Pros broke again this morning. Enough! Headed off to the local backpackers shop and tried a pair of the new TIMPs (and many others). They were too tight across the lower top of my foot, even with the lacing undone. All other parts felt great. Salesman pulled out a pair of old model TIMPs (discounted) and they were perfect. Why do companies change what works?

Got this shoe from Altra as a replacement for an excessively squeaky pair of Timp 1.5 that were worn twice. This is my fifth pair of Altra shoes and may be my last. The Timp 2.0 are unbelievably tight on top of the foot, from bottom to top of laces. I am certain you could remove the laces and they would squeeze your foot. I have no idea what went wrong, but I absolutely would not recommend buying this shoe if you're looking for the roomy Altras we've come to know.

Altra should have kept the upper from the Timp 1.5. It's way too snug and initially feels like I've lost too splay; needs more room.

I got this shoe hoping to wear them on a 26 Mile Trail race this coming weekend but I'm about to package them back up and return them tomorrow. I should have heeded the warnings of others but I convinced myself to buy them anyway. Watching the promos and first look reviews on YouTube, I thought these would make the perfect shoe for my current need. Comparisons linking these to the Torin 4s (which I own for the pavement and love) are out there and I thought these would be a perfect match for the light, relatively-flat trail I have upcoming. In many respects they are! The same Quantic midsole and new trail designs were just too good to pass up. So I took the bait and decided to go for these rather than the Lone Peak 4.5s I was also considering. Truth be told they almost fit perfect, have the same plush feel underfoot and the toebox for me is nice and roomy. My problem is the area of rigid material on the top of the foot where the laces are secured. On first try with both feet I could feel it pressing down just above the knuckle of my big toe. I tried loosening the laces but this has no effect. I considered I maybe needed a larger size but thought: "No!", since my toes felt sufficiently roomy (as they do in my Torins) and a larger size may just feel clumsy. I thought, ok, maybe a day of walking around in them to soften and loosen them up will do the trick. Boy was I wrong. I wore them the whole day trying to ignore the pain thinking they were loosening as the day went by. Finally at the end of the day, I took them off, to discover both knuckles bruised and swollen. What I thought was loosening was really the inflamation numbing my feet. I was sitting for large parts of the day, walking during the others. I now realize there is no way I can run in these. As much as I like everything else about them, they will be detrimental to my feet.

I've run in the following Altra trail shoes: Timp 1.5, Olympus 2,2.5, 3 and Lonepeak 3.5. All of these shoes, I could run 50 miles right out of the box. The TIMP 2.0 looks great and the quality of the build looks better than before. BUT THE TIMP 2.0 are way too tight. My feet feels numb. I don't want to start the run and after 3 miles want to rip them off my feet. I've run approx 25 miles now and the upper has loosened a little but the new midsole Quantics is too hard. My feet are always tingly and go numb. So sad was looking forward to these shoes after falling in love with the 1.5. Hope the 2.5 come sooner than later.
