I loved my Speed Goat 2's , but the SG 4 man want an improvement on an already good shoe. I reside in AZ and the trails here will destroy a pair shoes quickly. The SpeedGoats Vibram is the perfect match for our harsh desert hiking enviroment.

Love everything about the shoes except the panels have started peeling off after only a few runs. Ordering another pair and hope the quality control on the 2nd pair is better. only 63 miles in 2 weeks and panels are coming unglued. hope the next pair lasts longer than

These shoes are very lightweight. They have a VERY thin tongue under the laces which is odd, but OK if you tie them correctly. The cushions under your feet is VERY substantial. I believe they are very high quality, it just takes a while to get used to the changes.

Compared to the Speedgoat 3 they definitely have a wider fit. I have a narrow foot, and the extra space in the toe box was nice. However, the width around the arch was too much and my heel felt too free. The biggest problem is the tongue. If you wear no show socks, or the top slips below the tongue you may have issues. After 5 miles my skin was bleeding on both feet. I ran with crew socks and didn't have the issue. Unfortunately I can't wear these. Sticking with the Speedgoat 3 for now. I would have exchange for the EVO, but Zappos doesn't have them.

I am big fan of Hokas and love this more minimalist design compared to other models I've owned. The knobby traction is amazing on trails of Mt. Hood. I found I needed to lace the shoes up on the tighter side to reduce slipping forward on downhills. The toebox is a little pointy so the slippage resulted in some unhappy toes. With a tighter lacing job, problem solved! Excited for some big runs in the coming months!

I had to half size up with the 3 for my forefoot to be comfortable. This created a little excess shoe length for me. EVO model resolved this but lacks forefoot stability in technical terrain After my second run in the 4s, I really appreciate the new forefoot taper/width. Not as breathable as EVO but great stability, lockdown, and comfort! Thumbs up

Compared with other Hoka models, the front end of the SpeedGoat feels tighter, squeezing my big toe. It may be because the material used on the top of the shoe are much firmer than the materials used for my Carbon, Clifton and Rincon. I will try to trade them in for a wide size, since I am overall very pleased with the SpeedGoat, which would otherwise remain my Go To Shoe, given that they are perfect for a mix trail/road run. Love the name too, since some us are born year of the Goat!

I have struggled with the higher propensity to roll my ankles with the stack height. Yet, I love the cushion and the drop and can't go elsewhere. Then comes along the wide version and life is pretty good! My foot isn't quite wide enough to fit the wides well, however, when I tighten the laces across the naviculars, I don't slide around very much. And it is worth it to me as I don't roll nearly as often in the wides. I run plenty of vert, and these are responsive on the way up, cushy on the way down, and grippy both directions. How could they improve? 1. Don't love the texture of the uppers, they do the job, but the material is a little rough. 2. More color options for the wides. Even better, have the EVO Speedgoats in wide... oh man, giddy up! 3. A little more grip. The lugs do very well on most days, but struggle in the slop. If the Mafates came in wide, I'd probably go that route.

Since I have a bunion on my right foot, I got the shoe a half size larger and in wide. With their insole, the toe box remains a bit tight so I took out the insole and replaced it with my orthodic arch support. That combo works out great! Use them for trail and park hiking plus golf (the tread is good enough to do golf in). Love them now. Very cushioned.

Thanks to the Speedgoat shoes I can continue running as nothing else has worked for me lately. Speedgoat 3 was absolute perfection. I just received Speedgoat 4 and they are close, but the 3 was better. The new tongue is weird and irritating, though the forefoot is notably wider. Thank you for that. There is something different about the tread though. The Speedgoat 3 seemed "stickier" which I loved. That is gone in the 4 and I am really missing that.

I have always spoke against any shoe that was not minimalist until I ran my body into the ground. I decided to try a pair of Hokas and it was an instant game changer. I will admit I started to get a little sloppy in my running because I was relying on the cushion too much, but once I cleaned that up I never looked back. They are pricy, but totally worth the investment!

I bought these as my second pair of HOKAs. My first was Bondi. Interestingly, I found these to be better walking than running shoes. Everything I loved about my Bondi shoes, the speedgoat didn't seem to have. So a little less cushion. But, a bit more firm for trail. Not a bad shoe - I just like my Bondi better.

The interior lining of the shoe provides roughness in the front half, the lining is only from midfoot to the back. This may cause irritating rubbing, the speed goat is a true performance oriented trail shoe, more time is needed to complete my full review, I did purchase a wide, however I will be cutting a hole in the side for my pinky toe for more additional side to side room. Please consider making a 4E. I will follow up in a month or two.

The tongue of this shoe is made of a "plastic-rubber type" material. After wearing the shoes for about 10 minutes around the house, the tongue was digging into my ankles. Don't want to risk it doing this for a long-mileage walk, so returning. Otherwise, the fit was perfect.

I currently have a bout 70 miles in the Speedgoat 4s. Most of my trail runs have ranged between 5 - 15 miles. I have completed one 50k in these as well. They have performed well on all the trails I have ran and held up well in some really muddy conditions. For the most part I love the feel of these shoes. I feel I have plenty of room and the cushioning is good. The only negative and I would say is a huge negative is the tongue design is horrible. it seems to pinch my ankles and leave blisters. I have started to combat that issue by wearing a little higher sock and lubing my ankle up in that area. One other thing I had tried on my last run in these shoes, I placed some KT tape over the hotspots on both ankles. That seemed to work but it was only a 5 mile run, so the jury is still out on if that works or not. I'm currently wearing Clifton 6s and have used Arahhi 3s for my road running shoes and do not seem to have the ankle issues in those. Bottom line is most things about these shoes are great except for the tongue design. I would recommend these to a friend but would warn them of that issue. This is the first pair of trail shoes I have purchased from Hoka since switching to the brand for my primary road runners. If anyone has suggestions on how to combat the tongue issue I would love to hear your thoughts. I may just need to adjust to them.

These Speedgoat 4 WIDES are amazing. I was wearing wide Altras until I found these. So far my HOKAs are lasting longer, not squeaking in the footbeds like Altras always did, have a way better all around feel (and look) when I'm walking or running. Tread is grippy like Spiderman. I'm gonna stock up while I can.

Love the extra cushioning. Only wish the toe box wider. Got the 2ee. In New Balance have more room. If front doors f shoe more rounded be my favorite

Felt right in the toe box in one shoe at first, but stretched by stuffing the toe box full of socks and letting sit over night. Comfy on my feet, and after breaking in for about 30 miles ran a 77 mile run in them. Only complaints are that the laces are short if you lock your laces to hold your heel in, and the tongue is so thin and stubby that I got blisters on both feet at the top of the tongue where the laces are. The rest of my feet made out great with only very minor blisters, which is to be expected after 77 miles.

I ordered in Wide after trying on regular width in store and feel I needed more room in the forefoot. The wide version is accommodating in the forefoot as hoped. Unfortunately that gain in width runs all the way through to the heel. If you are like myself and have a wide forefoot but a standard width heel you will probably experience heel slippage like myself. I will say even with the heel slippage I have not experienced any blistering in the heel, even after a couple of 20 mile runs. I have about 100 miles on them so far and heel material is holding up at this point but I suspect with the slippage it will wear earlier than it should. I will update if I can after 200 miles.
