The EE wide version is too accommodating, allowing my flat feet to pronate. While the regular fit is narrow, it provides more arch support and better overall mechanics. The wide version is softer and slower, which is perfect for walking or yardwork. I'll try 1/2 size larger in the regular width. See you on the Trails!

I've owned several pairs of HOKA's and decided to try these Speedgoat's out as I train and compete in Spartan events. They are lighter than my Stinson ATR 6, and Bondi's, but I don't feel like they have as much arch support. I've put about 30 miles on them so far, and had to go get inserts to prevent the strain on my arches that I experienced the first couple of times I took them out. I had to stop after 6-7 miles. I love the traction, and with the stiffer inserts they are great. I'll probably try something else after these break down, but I'm limited due to needing a wide size. I'm hooked on Hoka, although I had a pair of Bondi's that split at the seams after about 60 miles and had to throw them away after several emails to HOKA with no response.

I live the SpeedGoat! I'm a trail and road runner and live the Hoka product line. The SpeedGoat need a small tweak to accommodate gaiters. I suggest adding a Velcro tab to the back of the shoe to accommodate the gaiters.

I wear them for my job running the floors in a hospital. My podiatrist recommended them because of my specific issues. They do not disappoint! My feet feel incredible and I have no pain. I'm giving 4 stars only because the break in time was 2 weeks for me. Although for someone with no feet problems, I would expect a much shorter break in time. I highly recommend the SPEEDGOAT!

Hiking with a light pack to the climbing crag I needed a shoe with good traction on uneven terrain. After reading about many of the Hoka shoes I chose the SpeedGoat.
I have been wearing them 3x a week to And from the climbing areas and and glad to have the added traction.
Unexpected plus, they wipe clean with a wet cloth! Nice!

I really like the cushion on the sole but I was expecting better material on the top part. Also would have been better if there was a wide model available.

Running in these speedgoats feel excellent and bomb proof. I'm an all season mountain runner; aggressive tread and quality are keys to my good time. Would definitely buy again.

I actually have quite a lot of trouble getting a decent fit sometimes. Everyones feet are different are they not? So I purchased a mens size in the hopes that I did the math right and got a decent fit. Plenty of room for my knobby toes and the heels worked better then some of the girls. My running days are over I frequently do ten miles a day walking. Once laced up they stay fairly snug. Are they perfect? Not for me but with a lot of arthritis and very knobby feet they suit my purpose. Girls if you ever want to try this do not go to a store with a bunch of fit young men who will discourage you from trying alternative lacing and fits.. I may be old and gray and I can still get out and go just no running. Thank you Hoka. I found you a few years ago and you have kept me on my feet.

Great trail runner they feel really good. Couple complaints is the laminate around the upper part of the toe box on my first pair started peeling almost right away, other people on the trail had the same issue. Second thing is the wide version doesn't feel much wider. The only noticeable difference is in the heel wich is not good. Think most people are looking for a wider toe box and not a wider heal. If the heal stayed the same and the toe box was wider in general (not just the wide version) this shoe would be the perfect trail runner. Just about every long distance hiker in the world is searching for a wide toe box trail runner. Unfortunately the options for this are very limited. Almost the perfect hiking trail runner!

I have run in nothing but Speedgoats for some time (2,3 & 4). I like everything about the 4's except the tongue. There is no padding on it and no matter how I lace them there is discomfort on the top of my feet from the laces. I have also tried elastic laces. I do not have this issue with my Speedgoat 3's. They have adequate padding on the tongue and are more comfortable. Can't understand what Hoka was trying to accomplish with this change.

I like these shoes. The toe box is wide enough for my arthritic feet to be comfortable and the soles are thick and cushiony. The heel is a little too big, but, given how hard it is for me to find shoes that work for my feet, I'll live with that.

Fun colors that motivate me on the trail. Also did well for light body weight fitness. A little snug in the toebox compared to the Bondi 7 wide, but still comfortable. Would've also bought the mid rise if it was available in wide.

Too early too tell . At 1st blush it is just a tad too tight . Fo example I usually wear brooks adrenaline gts 21 and they fit perfectly. I will keep wearing the hoka brand to see if it gets better .
Very nice cushion. Good look . Here is the problems with your reviews. People do not want to answer 20 questions . Keep it simple and keep your customers.

I like comparative reviews, so here I'll compare the Speedgoat 4 (SG4) to the Mafate Speed 3 (MS3). I used these for running and hiking on steep/technical/off-camber terrain. The surface is typical of So Cal trails: Rock (incl. conglomerate) and baked clay covered by a thin layer of dust, sand and gravel.
TLDR: My ideal trail shoe would be the SG4 with the midsole material and stack height of the MS3.
FIT: The SG4 is true-to-size for a HOKA. The MS3 runs longI needed to go 1/2-size down, to a 7. [This may be specific to the smaller sizes.] The SG4's low forefoot helps hold the foot better than the MS3. I can get equivalent lockdown with the MS3 but, even though it's a 1/2-size smaller, its high forefoot means I have to crank the laces harder, compromising comfort. [The MS3's forefoot height probably helps comfort for long runs on moderate terrain, where lockdown isn't as important.]
TRACTION: SG4 wins. They both use Vibram Megagrip lugs. But the SG4's Vibram lugs run front-to-back, while the MS3 has a big gap under the arch that uses midsole foam lugs only. IMO, for both safety and performance, all HOKA trail shoes should have outsoles as serious as the SG4's.
MIDSOLE: MS3 wins. Its midsole has a wonderful combination of responsiveness, shock absorption, and comfort. I also like that it doesn't taper too sharply at the front, instead maintaining nice thickness for forefoot landings during descents. The SG4's midsole isn't bad, but it's firmer (less comfortable underfoot), less responsive, and less shock absorbing; my knees can tell the difference.
STABILITY: SG4 wins. Both have uppers that are sufficiently structured to keep the foot centered on technical terrain (the MS3 is a big improvement over the Evo Mafate 2, whose upper has too much lateral stretch for technical terrain). However, the SG4's lower stack and wider forefoot base (its midsole flares laterally at the forefoot to help prevent ankle roll) gives it better stability.

I really like these shoes! I had to walk away from Hoka a few years ago as they were running sooo narrow. Switched over to Altra where I am a very happy customer. I decided to try these after the Altra Timp 2.0 failed to live up to previous edition's fit. The addition of the Speedgoat in a size 7 2E to my quiver is a game changer for me. These are also rare amongst shoes these days in that they nicely accommodate my custom orthotics. Thanks, Hoka - feel free to narrow the heel just a tad in the next edition....without changing anything else, of course.
I'd also recommend:
Altra

This shoe feels great except for one spot. The lace holes are designed to far to the inside of the shoe. The last hole (closest to my big toe) lines up on the bone of my foot and starts to rub a blister.

I work as a X-ray tech at a large hospital and shoes are important to me and my body. I've been walking and standing with these for a couple weeks and for the first time in years, my feet don't hurt and my knees don't ache at the end of the day. Excellent decision to buy them and will do it again

Only issue I can find is they are tight where the foot goes in when putting shoe on. Hopefully they will stretch some with use.

No kidding, these are great for hoofing it on the local trails and ram-paging through the underbrush while listening to sick bleats! The comfort and quality are top-notch, and I've noticed they put a little extra spring in my step, good for butting up against that redline and milking those personal records.
I like these shoes and ewe will too.
