My husband liked these but they are too cool for fall and winter. He will reorder in the warmer months.

If you're looking for a comfortable and stable running shoe that is durable, you have come to the right place. Super cushioned, breathable upper, great fit that is true to size. I have tried Hokas and these are more comfortable IMHO. I downgraded them to a 4 star only because I think that they are sort of plain looking and I would like to see these shoes offered in more stylish looks.

I have to order these 840 v4's when I see them, in whatever color is available, because my husband doesn't like the new ones! (v5) I was rather disappointed when he said these felt "harder" than his other v4's. They've also changed to a lot more soft material along the top, with the piercings. This is going to wear out a lot faster when toes poke through. They are at the top end expense of these New Balance shoes, and I was hoping for a bit more quality. But as it is, these are the only shoes for his 12 4E size foot that stretch wide enough to feel good after miles of walking. Anyway, a star off for comfort and style (quality) but still better than Asics or Saucony.

To replace well-worn 840v1's, I tried and returned NB MW577's and M608v4's. I liked the leather uppers, but they both had less toe room than the 840v1 (in 10 1/2 4E). The 840v4, which I kept, does have the same toe room as v1, but it's "squishier" in other respects. The mesh top moves more than leather, the soles are softer (foamy is a good description) and to top it off, NB have elasticized the laces. This gives a snug hold which squeezes your foot continuously, especially with the softer mesh uppers. However, I prefer being able to adjust the fit closely rather than to set the compression, so I'm going to replace the original elastic with regular stiffer laces. Although I wish that NB had kept closer to the the 840v1 design, especially the white leather uppers, these are ok, I guess. They fit, and that's 95%.

Fit is true to size (not half size up as usual w/running shoes), plenty wide for flat footers, and the new upper is silky smooth to slip your feet into. Midsole seems to be a bit more compliant/cushioned than v3, along with an excellent insole that seems it will provide lasting additional underfoot cushion. Biggest improvement for me is that the shoe is more balanced and medially supportive than v3, which I felt was almost more of an anti-supination shoe than a true neutral platform (i.e. they caused me to overpronate). My only wish now is that NB would bring the drop of this model down to 8 or 10mm (like v2), for a more natural stride/ride. 12MM IS JUST TOO MUCH

I have bought several pairs of these . I have found this sneaker to be the best fit I have ever had.The wide toe bed and wide width is perfect with my bunion. However,I was very disappointed with the speed the sole wore out. It went to smooth on parts unbelievable fast.

Ordering online I found that there weren't a lot of motion control options in a narrow last. This may have been due to supply issues. The shoes arrived in good time and as per usual they fit like a glove. There is good support in the heel but the toe box is light and I suspect that at 200 lbs I'll wear these shoes out in a short period of time, possibly 6 months. We'll see!

The N started peeling off after three weeks of wearing the shoe.

Sadly someone at the factory has decided that the tongue should be about 1/2" shorter. Every time I tie the shoe, the laces get caught under the tongue so that I need to pull the lace out to complete the knot. Other than that the shoes are quite nice. I noted no other changes. I buy this model shoe as I have extra wide feet and I need a wide toe box. This shoe fills the bill. I add a high arch insert under the factory footbed for long lasting comfort.

I loved the way these shoes looked, but after my first 6 mile walk in them, the heel of my right foot was just one big blister. I am going to give them another try with thicker socks, but so far I am not impressed. What good is a walking shoe if it hurts to walk in them?

Have owned a couple pairs of these. Very comfortable, nice looking. BUT the top, light grey portion stains very easily. I find myself getting new shoes long before these wear out just due to them looking like “yard shoes” pretty quickly. For the price I’d expect better.

This was the fourth pair of shoes ordered from Zappos. This pair did not fit, very uncomfortable at the toe end and began to cause some discomfort.

Too heavy for walking; the shoe in comfortable but it weighs more than other NB shoes I've used. It's weight probably accounts for the stiffness of this shoe. Maybe the shoes will lighten up after some use.

I am a guy with narrow feet which severely limits my choice of shoes. I have bought NBs for years because they fit well and wear well. I just wish that they would provide some selection in colors! The yuck grey is awful! How about blue, green or any other color in a narrow width! I would like to move on from the Forest Gump look!

My wife and I bought many "NB" running and walking shoes in the past 15 years. It is very clear that NB quality has significantly decreased. I purchased a new "840v4" a couple of weeks ago, and they are not what they used to be. The 'foam' on the inside isn't supportive, and the material on the shoes are cheap and thin. I bought these shoes for running, not for mucking around the house or yard. Thank you

This is the 4th pair I have had and like the fit and comfort of them. I have some foot issues and they have helped that. However, long before they wear out the soles tend to come loose. Every pair has done the same thing. At the price I think that is not what they should do. I don't run and wear them for daywear. Thanks!! Larry

Full disclosure, I am not a runner. I bought these for walking. They are a great looking shoe and so far seem well made. I wear an 11.5 wide. These seem to run a bit large so my foot moves alot. I mitigated so e of that by using the uppermost eyelets and really tightening the laces. These also feel a bit rigid/stiff compared to other similar New Balance shoes.

I bought a pair 3 years ago, size 12. bought this pair, size 12. They were a size too big. Have since sent them back and am contemplating purchasing a pair a of 11.5's.

Midfoot is very narrow. Sole is too stiff. Why put a narrow midfoot on a shoe with a wide toebox ? Makes no sense.

Great shoe but for wide feet, the toebox is too narrow.
