I ordered these along with Brooks Ghost 11. Wanted an excellent running sneaker to just wear most everywhere. I kept the Brooks Ghost and returned these because my feet liked the Brooks better. BUT, I am writing a review just to say, altho' I only tried them on in the house, they seem like an excellent sneaker...especially if you need room in the front part of the sneaker / toe area!!! If that is an issue for you, I bet these would be wonderfully comfortable. I like a roomy toe box, but this was almost too much for me. They ran 1/2 size big.

I have been wearing NB shoes exclusively for at least the last ten years. I am sorry to say that this is the fourth pair I have sent back. I sent the first pair back because all of a sudden I need a 12 instead of 11 1/2. The next three were sent back due to the way the support in the shoes felt, lumpy in odd places and an overall lack of support. They used to be some comfortable! I thank Zappos for making the transactions so easy. I guess I will have to find a new brand.

I have very high arches, and neuroma currently. After trying 20+ pairs of shoes, this pair and the Keen Portsmouth II, along with my Aetrex insoles (metatarsal pad) are the only ones I can wear at the moment, until I heal. If you have high arches, try this pair , with a good orthotic insoles (with metatarsal pad). As always, Zappos service rocks!

This is the only shoe of many which I have tried on recently which accomodates the thick orthotic I use. It also meets my requirement of being a neutral shoe having a large toe box & medium heigth arch support. Very comfortable.

Fantastic show if you have custom orthotics for running and wide feet. Most roomy tow box i have found when using my orthotics

Only wear these in operating room, never outside. The rubber sole has already started to peel away. I used to only wear Brooks Beast because of the wide fit until they changed the style, went to New Balance 840v4 as the fit closely resembled Brooks. Disappointed that the shoes are already falling apart.

I've been a regular runner since the early to mid 80s. I've tried many sneakers, but being that I'm a Neutral B width, I don't have many options. Most Men's running sneakers seem to be D width. I've been using this model, and subsequent upgrades, for several years now. This one meets my needs on all levels: lots of cushion, narrow width, Neutral strike sole, good fit for high arches, and long-lasting. Highly recommended for Neutral B width needs.

This shoe fits great. I need a neutral pronation shoe and one in which I can wear my orthotics. Shoes like that are very hard to find in a 4E or XW fit. I had been wearing the Brooks Dyad and this is a much better shoe. I hope New Balance doesn't discontinue it or change the design in the future. I'm buying a couple more pairs just in case.

Feel like old people shoes, if that makes any sense. Maybe it's just me, I really haven't purchased a pair of running shoes in some time. These don't seem very supportive, they seem to emphasize comfort, in a pillowy kind of way. I'm used to feeling support, all over, and I never really feel it with these shoes. They took about a week to break in (not too difficult, mind you), and you'll need to re-set the laces to fit you more comfortably. I would not buy these again, though I'm not looking to return them either - because I'm going to use them as casual wear, and not as running shoes. I think my next pair will probably be Brooks, my original running shoe of years ago. The fit and finish is good, not great.

These shoes wear out incredibly fast. The rubber on the toe tip wore through to the foam under it in less than six weeks. I bought a second pair because they are so comfortable and fit so well. The new pair did the same exact thing. I should also mention, I've never had this type of wear on any other shoe I have ever owned.

Fit well and like the style but pitiful wear on soles. I bought these June 23rd and writing this review on July 29th. In between I have walked 5 miles a day in these shoes and the tread is already worn flat (see pic)

This shoe seemed really great. I have had a lot of NB shoes in the past and have loved them all. The problem is, my back is not what it used to be, so I have to use a long shoe horn to both put on the shoe and pull the tongue up (I have to put them on tied as I cannot reach down far enough to do that anymore). I should have paid closer attention before ordering, but these do not have something to let me pull the tongue up. After looking more closely at all the NB shoes, seems none do.. A shame really, a 5 cent upgrade I am sure ;-(. My old ASICS do, and a couple of the current models do as well. So I will be going to ASIC until NB updates their shoes with a tongue loop/pull.

My husband has an arthritic big toe in one foot. He tried this in the 4E and the shoe fits. Indeed, the rocker shape of the sole relieves pain when he walks. He also bought a less expensive NB style and those are pretty good as well, but overall he was most impressed with the quality of this style. He uses a custom orthotic with it. Recommended!

I'm returning these shoes because they were too tight for my husband. He normally wears a 10 4E, but, if the shoes are imported, I order a 10 1/2. Sometimes it works, others it doesn't. The only shoes that seem to be true to width are the New Balance shoes that are made in the USA, but they come in very boring styles!

This shoe has allowed me to power walk again!! I ordered a men’s 7 4E. The insole is removable & my orthotics fit in perfectly. This shoe works great for someone with bunions & arthritis pain!

I've been wearing NB 940's for years, had both v3 & v4. I was just about ready to order another pair but at the last minute I decided to read the 840 v4 reviews and I'm so happy I did. I'm a big guy with both wide feet and high insteps and these sneakers feel like they've been custom made for me. Both width and arch support are spot on and they are insanely comfortable. For me, the 940 v3 is still the best sneaker I've ever owned but so for these are definitely in the running to take over the top spot. Final test will be how they hold up over time but so far I'm thrilled with them

I require more arch support. Though the shoes made me feel "floating on air," I had to replace the better-than-average inner support with my own orthotics. I lost some buoyancy, but I'm still pleased with the shoes (I've worn only New Balance for over 50 years). Delivery was fantastic, and I would order from Zappo's again.

My story is the same as many New Balance customers. My feet are long and fat which makes purchasing shoes difficult. Difficult until I discovered New Balance and ZAPPOS! Right out of the box, the fit is spot on. Mind you, that fit didn't deter me from shopping alternatives. None fit. Fortunately, with ZAPPOS, I returned all 5 prior purchases with ease. NO pain online shopping, UPS delivery to my door and EASY return. Thank you, ZAPPOS!
