New Balance is always changing things up in material and sizing and usually it is for the worse. This show is supposed to be a neutral SL2 last but it feels totally different from the 840v2 4E which I stocked up on because it fit as older versions did and seemed fairly well made. This version has an entirely new last and the material is super cheap (the kind you find on a $50 Under Armour), hot, and overall quite uncomfortable. It's a poor seller in the athletic shoe stores in my area, (one refuses to even carry it) and is yet I've more example of New Balance quality sliding deeper into the abyss, requiring customers to pay over $170 for a decent pair of running shoes. I'll probably end up going to an Under Armour for $50 in a 4E.

New Balance has once again ruined the 840 series. They do this periodically because they have no sense if continuity and quality control. The 840 is supposed to have the SL2 lass which provides extra comfort in the toe pocket, wider at the instep, and tapers to the heel with a deep collar. This version had none of this. It felt tight at the toe, narrower than normal at the instep, and the heel collar felt shallow. A super disappointment, but as I said this is not the first time New Balance changed this shoe for worse. Even the material is significantly warmer and not nearly as comfortable as prior versions. My wife has already moved on to the wide Nike shoes and it looks like I'll have to do the same. What a shame. .

What a disappointment. I stocked up on the 840v2 knowing that New Balance will change things up and they v certainly did. This version is nothing like V2. It is tighter all around, the food doesn't fit in well, and the material is hotter and cheaper. Looks so not compensate for a poorly constructed she no matter how much New Balance tries. Since the only reason I purchase New Balance is for the SL2 last, I'll have to go elsewhere for my neutral running shoe (I dislike the gimmicks of their higher priced shoes. So uncomfortable.)
