Hoping to use the shoe for my daily walks, the show looks great and seemed to have good cushion. Problem is they did not feel like the 4E my other New Balance are, much narrower, had to return

I have purchased the 840 series shoe (D width) for decades because of the wider toe box (which had included the ball of the foot area). Moving from version 3 to 4 of the 840, the shoe is narrower. In order to wear this shoe, I have to lace it looser, which results in slippage within the shoe on uneven terrain. I suggest that customers moving from version 3 to 4 consider purchasing a wider width.

Great shoe, however I thought I was getting a different color. I already have this exact shoe. I thought it was black and red which is states in the product description.

For being a extra wide width it felt like a wide and the mid-foot section was to narrow, foot fell over the side of soles.
I'd also recommend:

much larger fit - length & width - compared to other New Balance running shoes (eg 1080).

Arch support extends slightly under heel causing supination.
Sole/foxing intrudes onto upper thereby causing "abrasion" of the side of the foot as it pushes against the "rubber".

I thought I had hit the jackpot when I found the New Balance 840 v3. Very wide in the toe box and accommodating for a high volume foot like mine. I normally wear 13 4E in athletic shoes. However, the 840 v3 was so wide I had to drop down to a 2E - awesome! Not so fast. New Balance must have some sort of comfort meter to detect when a pair of shoes fit so they can then make the next iteration less comfortable. So the 840 v4 comes out and I try the 13 2E in the cool dark slate color. Whoops! Way too narrow. So then I try the 13 4E. Wide enough in the toe box but felt narrower in the mid-foot area. It was also a bit long. Finally I tried the 12.5 4E and bought 4 pairs because if I can find something that fits I load knowing they will go away. I decided to give one pair a shot and my conclusion is they just don't work. I am keeping the one pair and returning the others unfortunately. Very good looking shoe and great toe box. Unfortunately New Balance had to screw with the rest of it.

Decent sneaker, but the fit is odd -- I have slightly wider feet and these I felt were wide even for me, even in regular sizing. Felt both wide and too long, and I even tried a smaller size but still felt that it fit like a boat on my feet. I'd say great for walking around, not so much for running in them.

I had returned the first size i bought, my normal size, because they were too big. I went a half size smaller. Although they fit length wise, they do not fit as comfortably width wise, as I purchased them because I have wide feet. The arch support is good, however, I also have a problem with the back of the shoe going in when I put them on, and have a finger to pop the edge back out. Wouldn't buy them again.

Nice color, style leaves something to be desired. The shoes do not look like the pictures. Yes, wide, but look like you are wearing boxes on end of feet.

While very comfortable with a roomy toe box, in less than a month the sole is heavily worn. Durability is not their strong suit

The midsole is too narrow compared to 840v1 and 883 (predecessor) I've had in the past. I have flat feet so I need a shoe with wide midfoot room. The 840 now has more of a hourglass shape. As a result, it feels like there is a bump on the inside arch that causes blisters on the arch of my feet. It looks like Saucony Echelon or Brooks Dyad will be my next shoe unless I can find something for under 100.

The shoe fits great but you will need to get a different insole. The one they have is horrible.

The arch support applies pressure to the outside of the foot in a very uncomfortable way. Weird because another version of the same shoe same size does not cause this pain.

First, let me say that this is probably the most comfortable shoe I've ever worn. It was recommended to me by my podiatrist as a good choice for comfort and fit for my custom orthotic. I started wearing it and fell in love. It's roomy and provides great cushion for my feet.
Now for the down side. The soles on these shoes DO NOT last. I walk barely a mile a day, not run and I can't get them to last more than 2 months. They always wear down quickly right at the front in the middle. It happens like clockwork. I've been going through many pairs a year, because I love the feel so much. Not any more though. I've given up. New Balance needs to fix their quality control issues. They need to make a more durable sole. BUYER BEWARD.

I bought these for walking hoping to get a little more support than the 520's I usually get. This model doesn't feel right the front of the shoe is compact and crowds the toes. Also the shoe weighs a ton compared to a 520. I returned them only to find out NB won't even issue a refund until 10 days have past! They'e quarantining shoes as if they can carry a virus! Utterly ridiculous! Won't be buying from NB website ever again. All around bad experience and customer service.Still waiting for my refund...

The size and fit were acceptable. However, the sole has begun to come apart and separate. I've tried to glue it back together, but to no avail. I am contemplating returning these sneakers even though my husband has worn them.

I love the style of shoe however the fit was not right for me. The heel was too shallow and it kept popping out and overall the shoe felt very heavy.

Took way too long for delivery. Sneakers are comfortable light weight. The rear quarter could be a bit higher.

I bought these for my husband as a gift, we ordered them in his regular size but he said they felt too wide and long. He liked the way they looked, but also said they were not very comfortable and not well cushioned, he did not think they would be supportive enough for his daily runs, so we returned them.
