All tennis shoes are made with tongues so short you nearly can't tie the shoes over them! Please change this!!!

Good fit. Great arch and heel support. Great for walking or a workout.

Good shoe for people with foot problem. Doctor recommended for planter fasciitis. Nice looking and comfortable. But tongue needs design change as currently tongue won't stay in place.

These shoes replace the 840 Version 2 and are more Comfortable but not as waterproof as the version 2. I won't know for sure until I wear them out in a rain storm.

Bought this shoe because of a broken pinkie toe and the description of "wide toe box" in several other reviews. This shoe does have a wide toe box. However, the padding tilts slightly outward putting extra pressure on the pinkie toe. Probably a great shoe if you aren't injured. Otherwise a very good shoe.

NB 840v4 13D. I have purchased several of the v3 of this shoe. The v4 appears to be just as comfortable. I've only had a few days so I'll have to come back later and add update about durability. I still wear 3 yr old v3, with new insoles, for yard work so hopefully these will last as long. I personally think the v3 had better styling and color choices but I am far from being fashionable so it's not a biggie to me. My one complaint about v4 is that the tongue appears to be significantly shorter, 1/4 to 1/2 inch shorter than v3 and other new balance styles I've worn. Even though I'm not using the top most eyelet if I pull the shoestring very tight it has a tendency to slide off the tongue and onto my sock. Probably a user error :) but I don't have the issue with any other new balance shoe

The 840v4 looks nice, and although this particular shoe model that I purchased was not wide enough for my feet, I perceived it to be a comfortable running run with has a 12mm drop. I attempted to contact customer service by phone in order request swapping the shoes for a wider pair, however no one answered my call after over 15 minutes of being on hold. I then tried the text customer service feature on the New Balance site, which is supposed to be a faster method to reach someone, but it was a week later before anyone replied to my text request for a shoe swap. By the time I received a text reply I had already requested a free return label to send back the shoes for a full refund, which, I am happy to say, worked perfectly. Of course the shoe swap snafu is my only reasoning for the 4 stars. I have worn New Balance shoes for years, and I particularly like that they have more to offer in wide sizes for athletic footwear than most other athletic shoe brands. As well, in that I am difficult to fit and I really loathe trying to find, and then try on shoes at a brick-and-mortar store, the Free Returns for online purchases is super nice selling point. I definitely recommend New Balance for all shoe styles.

Thought they were the same as the 860's, but not quite the same fit. Still pretty comfortable though.

shoe was surprisingly smaller than expected at my recommended size. Normally Zappos gets it right on. Ordered a half size larger.

As other reviewers have said, the sizing seems to have gotten smaller in the last year, I have sized up a full size since last years models! They wear out too fast in the sole, I go through a pair in about 3 months. I walk in these about 25 to 30 miles per week. That being said, they are the only running shoe that I currently like. Super comfortable right out of the box! Great for under-pronation!

A very comfortable walking/running shoe. It feels much like the NB 990v5, but is less expensive and not made in the USA. Don't know yet if it wears better than the 990v5 which has an annoyingly short life span.

I would assume that these fit the majority of wide footed people just fine, but didn't fit me. In my experience, most "wide" shoes are mostly only wider across the ball of the foot. Unfortunately my feet remain wider further back than this and my foot was slightly beyond the last in a couple different places in these causing immediately discomfort. These were the first New Balance I had tried in well over a decade, and given my past experiences with them this surprised me but it's also possible that my foot has changed in that time. Before they had always been wide enough but their "style" just didn't do it for me. The styling on these was very nice it was strictly a width thing.

This shoe fits length wise but is a little too wide, but I think my husband really should have ordered the 2E. He started with a size 13, his normal size, but they were too short so we exchanged for these size 14s. It’s a fairly flexible shoe, so not a great deal of support. He hates the elastic shoe laces. Other than that they are comfortable and he is keeping them.

Have a wide foot and the 4E fits but these feel a little wider and bulge a bit when flexed. Comfortable shoe and the N logo is not overly pronunced in the design.

I'm 73" tall, 180 lb... Not a small person. I have had problems with plantar fasciitis, so I use orthotics in place of the stock insole. I run only about 5 miles, twice a week. I have a foot that is wide in the toe but narrow in the heel, not easy to get a good fit. I've often ordered an extra 2E width for more toe room, but that's not optimal at all. These shoes work well for me in my normal D width. I also have tried the 1540, which NB claims has a similar fit, but those cause shin pain. Obviously the fit is not the same. I think the drop is different, but it's really hard to compare specs of various NB shoes. So I'm staying with the 840. It works. I'd like other options made with the same last, but it's impossible to find that information any more.

A very comfortable shoe. It felt a half size larger than my normal size 11. However, the removable insoles are at least a size 12 - 13. I verified this with a New Balance insole size 11 and these were at least one half inch longer. Perhaps the shoe was mislabeled? Anyway, it's a very comfortable shoe if it fits.

I weigh 230 and am 6'1" with multiple back operations from L3-S1. Love to walk and hike but always had issues finding right shoe that would decrease my foot/leg pain when walking on concrete or asphalt. If you are like me with mild neuropathy and slightly have a more supinated walking profile, this shoe may help. These are my third pair and I walk 10-15 miles every 3-4 days. I use the 840's on treadmills and pavement, but use my Merrill's for hiking on natural surfaces.
