I was looking for a pair of lightweight, waterproof boots that I could use for snowshoeing. I'm not a fan of other popular winter boots; they are heavy and usually don't fit well because of the thickness of the insulation. These are just right, and I know that they will double as good trail shoes in the spring "mud season" as well. I tried these on in the store in November, but they didn't have them in a D width. They fit all right with thin socks, but I thought they'd be snug with winter wool socks on. I ordered them online, which I have never done with footwear before), and they are PERFECT! My husband thinks they are a little stiff, but I have no complaints so far (with less than 10 miles on the shoes).

I only do "urban hiking" but love this shoe for wet winter weather. I have an older version in nubuck but was pleased to get this one in black with the teal trim. Though not as sleek as my dress booties, I find that I defer to these with slacks or jeans when I am out mall walking or hopping as I finish my holiday shopping, or hitting all the different grocery stores or in the process of getting in my ten thousand steps without having to sacrifice foot comfort. As I hit the parks and streets to take late fall and winter photos much more practical than my standard athletic shoe.

I have to wear custom orthotics that are full length, thin and flexible in the toe and thick and rigid in the arch so I wanted a hiking boot that would: have removable insoles, keep my feet dry and warm, unlace far enough that I could get the orthotics in and out and look good. These New Balance hikers accomplish all that! Very happy with them and of course Zappos service is unparalleled.

This shoe good fit and comfort and so far well constructed. I do wish they could be resouled but guess it is now a throw away society. I can get about 1500 to 2000 miles from a pair until they start hurting my feet. Mileage is according to my phone health ape. I walk about 5 miles a day minimum. This is pasture land that is hilly, rocky, and sandy, so need a sturdy shoe to last more than a month. New Balance hiking types have done the job for me for more than 5 years now

These look great, but I need surgery on my foot. I can't bend my big toe enough to get it into the shoe.

I purchased the 12 narrow, and though I'm technically a 11.5 AAA, I put true to size because I understand that sports shoes run a half size short. The previous models ran a little short for me in a 12, so I was worried. These are perfect. When I cinch them up, I feel so secure that I'm ecstatic because as far as I know there are no boots that come in narrow over size 11 in the whole country. I've only had them a few days, but they've already been storm tested, and I took them out on a muddy trail. Most women my shoe size are tall, so thank you New Balance for giving us options. These are not heavy back packing boots, but I find them very supportive. I need the motion control for support due to loose ligaments. Many people hike in sneakers these days, so they'd probably work for a couple days trek. It's one thing for boots to fit and another for them to be comfortable. These are both. If you're actually a 12, your toe might touch the end, but I actually have toe room , so maybe they would work for you too. More than just pleased!

Zappos customer support was FANTASTIC! 3 days before a week-long trip I realized that my old boots sprung a leak. Not only did this person expedite the shipment to "overnight delivery", but he offered to do so FREE; when I mentioned that another website had this product for a lower price, but could NOT deliver it in time, the representative gave me the same discount, AND had it delivered over night!
Could anyone wish for better service, dedication to its customers AND stock great products??
Thank you Zappos

The pink is a really nice feminine touch. The shoe feels about a half size short. Good support. May re-order this winter in a larger size. Sturdy shoe!

I liked the shoe. I usually wear 7 WW. The width was not wide enough to wear with anything but a thin sock. And my big toe hit the front of shoe. Would not work for me when hiking.

Very comfortable and true to size. I didn't need a break in period and no blisters right out of the box. Seemed light weight to me. Not too warm as I do not like hot feet.

Love this shoe. Ordered it one size larger to wear comfortably with thick socks. Great fit and love the colors.

I was impressed with the support these boots provide given the cost. I bought them for some intense hiking and they seem to have enough ankle support and arch support for longer hikes and to prevent injuries. They seem like they will be waterproof enough for both hiking and for winter weather, but also seem like they may be hotter than other brands (which I was looking for). The arch support was more than average. I tried adding some insoles from another pair of shoes to see if it would increase the support, but the insole provided was actually better than my surestep addition.

I put on my new shoes to break in before I go on a hiking trip, there was no need for it. They are so comfortable. I love them. The only problem I have is that I need a higher arch in them; after I wear them for a while I feel a pull in my calf. This not because of the shoes. I feel it is my foot need a little boost on the side.

I was looking for water resistant walkers or lightweight hikers, with the support, stability and comfort of my easily soaked Brooks Adrenaline GTS 16s. If Brooks had offered water resistant shoes in wide widths, I would have gone with that. But, no such shoe in the Brooks line. So, after trying and returning (thank you Zappos!) 7 or 8 other brands and styles of shoes and boots, these worked. Yay! They are a bit loose in the heel, side to side, but that is easily remedied with thicker socks and creative lacing. They give great support, yet feel as comfy as slippers. My only complaint is that the laces do not stay tied, have to be double knotted. These are super boots!

There was no adjustment period. Long comfortable "tongue" and the bootstrap on the back is large enough to get a finger through. (Not all are.) And I prefer the grey color to an all black, so I'm happy they went with this color. I go for functionality over style, but this has both.

Comfortable right out of the box, plenty of room for heavy socks.I bought the same size as I do in NB running shoes. The color is accurate in the picture, but I would say it's closer to navy than gray.

Love the colors, the fit and especially the look. Lately I'm in between 11ww and 12ww. Ordered the 11ww and had to return it because it fit to snug with socks on. The 12ww fits great. Ordered both colors in 12ww. Very comfortable feel and did I say I love how they look?

Ordered these to use when it's raining. Good fit, wore them all day and didn't get any blisters or rubbing on the foot. Very lightweight with lots of support. Highly recommend for someone looking for water proof lightweight, and good looking alternative to rain boots.

I am very happy with these boots. I really like the fit and durability though I have only had them for about a month and we haven't had a real Chicago winter yet. I am sure that I will like them when winter comes. New Balance has been one of my favorites for many years with my D width foot.

The best boots I have ever had on my feet. I have worn New Balance walking shoes for years now so when I needed a hiking boot I turned to New Balance but not until after I had tried another brand and was extremely unhappy with them. Silly me I wore the New Balance boots around the house for about 3 weeks just to make sure they were not going to disappoint and they did not. I Have worn them a few time now on 3 + mile hikes only to realize these would have been good to go from day one. They are the most comfortable light weight hiking boot I have ever had on. Water proof with a great grip on the sole. So warm in 30 degree weather I don't need my wool socks (might when it gets colder). I will never buy another brand of walking or hiking shoe ever again. Way to go New Balance...another winner!

Love these shoes to me they are a cross between a rigid hiker and a cross trainer. Don't think they advertise as waterproof but in Seattle and no wet feet yet!
