I had been wearing lone peaks, but decided to switch to the timp 5s for the vibram soles and more cushion for longer ultras. Was disappointed to feel that the toe box is more narrow, which really bothered my toes and caused more pain. Also, the sole ran out a LOT faster than I expected. After only about 350 miles the tread is worn away, and is peeling. They were fine while I had them, but wont be coming back until the toe box is expanded and the outsole is reinforced more.

I've been wearing Timps exclusively for 7 years and buy 2 pairs a year. This latest model, Timp 5 has serious quality issues in the cushioning and only feel comfortable for 75-100 miles. I have 2 pairs of Timp 5's and the quality is disappointing. I've always been a fan of the fit but unfortunately will be looking at other brands for the future The uppers still look brand new but the shoes are unwearable. For over $150 they should last more than a few months. Really disappointed Altra, hope you guys fix this problem!

I bought these shoes for a backpacking trip later this summer, but when I went on a hike (6 miles) to try them out, I could barely walk the next morning because my feet hurt. This is probably just my problem, but unfortunately, I cannot wear these shoes. This is disappointing because they had great traction and fit well, but they just didn't work with my feet.

Too narrow for my feet. Otherwise, these seem to be excellent shoes. There is a lot of cushion for rocky trails and they would be are very comfortable, if they were wider. Sadly I had to return them.

Is not compatible with a full Correct Toes spreader. I wish Altra didn't start changing their lasts a few years back. Stay true to your roots. I'll be going back to the Lone Peak for proper toe space.

I have bought a number of Altra's over the years and really liked them. It is just the Timp 5 that let me down. Bought the shoes in August last year. Didn't use them much (not at all in winter). By March this year the midsole had deteriorated to the extent that I couldn't use them anymore (the midsole was on the ground, "dead", without response: an awful feeling). It's not my weight: 73 kilos. I lodged a warranty claim with the company I bought them from.

I wanted to love the shoe.. and did for a while until I got a foot injury (metatarsalgia) because of the 0 drop. Timps were out of my norm for running shoes (Hoka is my usual) and I'll be returning :/

I am really bummed about these. I have enjoyed Altra for the wide toe box but these are so constricting. It seems like every new pair coming out is getting more and more narrow. A lot of us love this brand for the WIDE toe box. Please don't lose that. I love the look and grip of these. I sadly cannot wear them due to being so tight. Can you please make these in a wide version?? I would buy two in an instant. I sadly will be returning these.

HEY ALTRA: A majority of your runners choose Altra for the toe box! This is a very well built shoe but the toe box is noticeably smaller. I love the Peak but will try the Olympus now as I need more cushioning, but I wish there was a stack height choice between the 2 without compromising on width.

I thought my Lone Peak 7s were tight! These are super narrow and low volume Altras. Pinky tows crammed in the toe box. I tried them on for less than a minute. Five minutes after taking them off my feet still hurt and have deep marks on my bunions. This may be the last pair of Altras I attempt to buy as the designs just keep getting smaller and tighter compared to older designs. The sole and upper also have a weird alignment. I work at Softstar Shoes and make footwear every day. Occasionally we have an upper sewn on crooked like this but don't send it to customers. Not certain what direction Altra is headed but it seems to be a significant departure from their earlier, roomier and comfortable shoes. On a positive note, I like the colorway and the length felt true to size. If you have narrower feet these might be great for you.

This shoe has a high rather stiff heel counter. It digs into the Achilles tendon while running downhill! I took it on a 40k run in the mountains : it was bad.

Bought for two week trip to Yosemite and on the first trail the material came apart at toe box and was annoying til I got to hardware to get super glue to fix. Also Sole wasn't stiff enough for rocks

Look - these shoes perform well and are beyond comfortable. However both shoes big toe seem peeled away after two wears. I have filed a warranty 8 days ago with no response. On brand for Alta CS.

I have used Lone Peak 4, 5 and two pairs of 6's and never had a problem with them. I purchased TIMPS for the extra stack height which was great. That is where my enjoyment for TIMPS stops, I have never have foot issues with Lone Peaks but with these shoes I am going to lose at least 1 toe nail and due to how the tongue gussets attach I now have blisters on the top of both feet which is a first for me. I would never recommend these shoes to anyone. After 40 miles in these shoes I am going to return to my worn out Lone Peaks while I figure out what to do next.

Long time Altra customer here. I was about to throw in the towel with Altra shoes after the last several pair of Olympus 5s I had purchased basically fell apart prematurely and soles started peeling off with less than 100 miles on them. I decided to give it one more go with the Timp 5 and was cautiously optimistic based on initial reviews and the website description that they were "ready to get rowdy" and "ready for a full send" on the "toughest of trails." I was generally pleased with them for the first month or so but then the uppers started fraying. And now, in less than 2 months since my purchase, and with about 200 miles on them, the cushioned heels are basically collapsed flat as a pancake. Sent my concerns to customer service and was informed it was 'normal wear and tear'. So, anyway...sure they can tolerate a "full send" on some tough trails for maybe 1-2 months and then they are pretty much done. I expect better durability and quality for the price.

I wear a 15. Had to return them after trying them on. Tongue felt very rigid, collar was right against my bony ankles, shoe felt stiff in the upper and skinnier than other Standard Footshape shoes.

I love Altra. I feel like I wouldn't still be running if it wasn't for Altra. I run on average 70 miles per week and have run several 100-mile races. I really really wanted to love this shoe but I don't :( I have a low-volume and narrow foot and cannot believe how small the toe box is. I switched out the insole for a much thinner Xero insole and this has made it much better. The biggest issue I have is the placement of the last 2 lace holes at the top of the shoe. They are far from the edge creating crazy lace bite, and forces the harder plastic into my foot. I feel it on the inside of my foot. I've punched new lace holes closer to the edge and it's way better. This being said the midsole, grip, and lockdown (without the lace bite) are awesome. I feel like this shoe is so close to being great but some simple design mistakes have messed it up.

Forefoot is too tight. Too narrow AND it presses on the top of the foot, which is downright painful if you have big toe joint issues. Different fit from other "standard" fit shoes like the Provision.

If the Timp 4 fit your foot, don't expect the same of the 5. The Timp 5 is about a 1/4 inch narrower in the toe box. Hey Altra, it would have been nice to inform your customers about this... especially as the wide toe box is literally what you're known for. Otherwise the shoe looks nice.

Disclosure: Altra sent me this product for free as part of a BzzAgent sampling program. The package arrived, and the shoes are very stylish. I was excited to wear them and hit the trails. Unfortunately, the shoes are too thin for my foot, which was disappointing because I saw they were advertised as a roomy toe box. If wearing for more than an hour or so I'd get pain on the outsides of my feet. I'd recommend something with a bit wider.

I was using these shoes for trail running in dirt and gravel areas and they were comfortable. It's been less then a year that I've had these shoes and they falling apart and seperating. I expected a lot from this brand but i will not pay the price for a cheaply made product.

I used the Timp 2s to thru-hike the CDT and loved them. But with the changes, including the hard plastic across the front, these now leave a blister. I am now switching to a different brand.

Not sure what happen to this model but they used to be my favorite and it seems the shoe sizing is going in the wrong direction. There is no room in the toe box and the width is so narrow my arch is trying out of the shoe. The TIMP 2's where probably the best version they had thought they did wear out fast but at least they had a good toe box and where wide!
