Bought my second pair this year and it is considerably smaller and narrower. Enjoyed my first pair (stable and good cushion). Can't wear this pair. Hoping you can figure out consistent sizing.

I've tried a variety of Altra's. Starting with the Olympus and ending at the Loan Peak. These are the perfect combination of the support of the Olympus with the room and feel of the Loan Peaks. If the Loan Peaks had a Vibram sole I wouldn't have gone on this journey of trial and error. I found the Timps to be a little tight in the arch with some hot spots on the sides of my pinky toe after about 10 miles as they are a touch more narrow than the Loan Peak. However, the absolute confidence these shoes inspire on rough terrain made a little discomfort well worth it. I felt unstoppable over lose and rough terrain. Enough feel to know what I was stepping on while keeping my feet protected and happy. I wear a 12 in the Loan Peaks and had to size up to a 12.5 for the Temps. The toe protection started to delaminate after the 1st wear. Did not bode well for future durability so I returned them. Durability seems to be a commin piece of feedback and one that should be correctable.

I can't even wear these with how narrow they are. If you are into wide toe boxes. These shoes are not them. Timp 4 toe box is much better.

I love the fit/feel of the Lone Peak, but I was interested in the Timp for its more generous cushioning and Vibram outsole. Unfortunately, the Timp's toe box doesn't work for me. It's not specifically too narrow, but rather just too small in volume. The upper puts a bit of pressure on my little toes, which might be acceptable with a soft/stretchy upper, but not with the Timp's more structured design. I wish they would offer this shoe with the "original" footshape instead of the "standard" one.

All my other Altras (which I love) have been 12 but I now need a 13, which is out of stock with most of their products I want to give them money for. Pretty disappointing

It has taken over a month for the shoe to start to feel semi comfortable. The shoe just feels too narrow and tight on the upper portion of the shoe near the bottom of the tongue. The tongue material bunches up beyond the stitching causing an additional uncomfortable point. The biggest issue is the material on top of the foot is too stiff compared to other Altra trail shoes and when it flexes creates a pinch point where it is difficult to flex the toe fully when running or even walking.

Really like the new Timp overall. Upper- would prefer a different and more comfortable material, it feels a little stiff. BETTER GLUE or just use stitching! Not acceptable all the delamination issues of overlays that continue with Altras. Fit is on the narrow side for Altra and I found a half size up fit great for my average to wide foot. Tongue could be a little wider but I like the amount of cushion in it. Midsole- EgoMax has been very good, it's not super responsive but has a little bounce and good stability. Feels agile and has enough protection. I like the stack height and feel more than the LP. Outsole- Excellent. More Vibram please Altra. Hopefully you can get it all right with the next version, on the right track! Also please make a low drop version ;)

To me thw only that needed to change in the Timp4 was the tongue. The Timp5 has a good tongue in it but it is too narrow. I am a female and I buy men's shoes because of the width and these are narrow.

I should start this review by saying that I dislike runners that try to create bounce. It feels like running in quicksand, it feels like there is a loss of energy, and it's tiring. Unfortunately, Altra's obsession (along with other brands) with trying create bounce and a cloud-like feel has resulted in a shoe that feels like quicksand. I've taken this shoe on a few 20+ mi trail runs so far. While the bounciness doesn't feel as sloppy as in some of the LPs I've tried, I think it is over-the-top. The Torin 7 has the perfect balance of give in the sole, and firmness so I can feel like I'm actually pushing off the ground. Altra should do the same with the next Timp. The midfoot feels very narrow. I have to tie these as loosely as possible. Otherwise, I start to not be able to feel my feet on runs. Finally, is this a trail running shoe? I had suspicions about its durability from the moment I took it out of the box, and those suspicions have been validated. It's only got a bit over 50 trail miles on it so far, but the fabric is already ripping in some places, and it looks like there's some delaminating happening on the toe box. All in all, this could be a good shoe if Altra doesn't try to make the next version a do-everything shoe. Is this a trail runner? A hiker? A road runner? Or just a lifestyle shoe for dads from Ohio? The brand needs to pick an audience and stick with it.

The shoe is very comfortable and was able to do a 50k out of the box with no issues. Great traction and fits my foot well. Switch from the Lone Peak to the Timp for the addition cushion for long runs. The only issue is the wrap around laminate from the toe box began separating on both sides after one run. Additionally, the material above the top eyelit rubbed all the way through the material. Love the shoe but cannot afford to have it fall apart after one long run. If that didn't happen this is a 5 star shoe for me.

Traction is there. Nice comfortable fit. I wasn't thrilled about the color, bit odd together. Quality is debatable.

So excited for the Timp 5, but disappointed. The fancy rubber toe wrap is delaminating from both shoes without having run a day in them yet. The only reason you are getting 3 stars is the fantastic customer service rep who processed my return. You could just have put the Vibram outsole on the Timp 4 and called it a massive success. Love the Timp 4 except for the soft outsole that wears down too fast.

The Timp 5 is great other than the toe cap overlay delaminating on inside of shoe near big toe. I've returned my first pair, but plan to give them another shot hoping the next pair doesn't do the same. The shoe is comfortable and the Vibram outsole is the best addition. Altra should use vibram on every pair of trail shoes they make. The toe box could be a tad bit wider. It wasn't tight enough to cause blisters but isn't the same as the original altra's with the wide toe box. Bring that toebox back. That's why so many customers came to Altra. Don't try to be like all the other shoe companies. The timp is a good shoe and could be even greater if the fix the delamination/durability issue.

I use my Timp 5 for hiking. The new tongue caused unbearable pressure points on top of the foot along the inside seam. To fix this issue I skipped lacing an eyelet and cut part of the tongue off with a hot knife. That might seem like a lot of work to make a new pair of shoes usable but I'm dedicated to the Timp. The thick cushion is great and the toe box is roomy (but a little narrower than the Timp 4, unfortunately). Altra FINALLY put Vibram on the outsole. The zero drop helps my posture and they definitely seem more durable than the previous version.

Wanted to really like this shoe. They are good looking, but feel cheaply made. Almost like plastic. Being this way made it kind of uncomfortable.

I have worn thru many versions of the Timp, the tongue and durability had been an issue for me, an both my sons that also wear them. However the cushioning, all day comfort has kept me coming back. I was so excited to get the Timp 5, looked like a real up grade but wearing them on the trail was brutal, unforgiving, stiff, my feet actually hurt. My son, who never has a shoe complaint rubbed a blister from the side wall at the ankle. He now refuses to wear them. I had hoped my feet would adjust but I would trade the improvements for the comfort of the Timp 4 any day, won't buy another 5.

I was excited to receive these shoes but the moment I opened the box I said hmm these aren't what they truly look like in the photo. They're a little more clunky than expected. They feel rigid but are comfortable. I would hesitate before recommending.

I received this product in exchange for my honest opinion. Altra Running US Men's Timp 5 is great daily training running shoe. Very light weight. It is supper comfortable. However, I don't like the color and styles. The price is higher compare to the other brand that I have bought before. I would recommend this shoes to anyone that looking for running shoes

There is definitely not enough space in these Timp 5'a as I have had in other Timp models. I am having a very hard time breaking them in as the knuckle on my big toe is not getting enough room. I keep trying to loosen the laces but I have been unable to get them comfortable. I should have waited a couple of weeks for the Timp 6 shoes because they look like they may have more room.

These shoes are good for anything less than 5 miles (for me). I did a 50K in these, and by 25K my feet were destroyed.

I use it for normal running and walking. The Timp4 was a better shoe. The only thing wrong with it was that it wore out quickly. The Timp 5 is too narrow and uncomfortable. I've given up on it. My orthotics don't work well with them. I have been buying the 4 wherever I can find them. Please go back to the Timp 4!!!

This is Not the traditional wide toe box that I am accustomed to from Altra shoes. For short distances the shoe is fine. After spending hours in the shoe my toes ended up extremely cramped.

I previously left a 4 star review a few months ago. I have 97 miles on these shoes in just around a year so I have not worn them much. The outsole is already completely coming unglued from the midsole. Very disappointing it's a very comfortable well rounded shoe except for the durability.

I have run in Alras for 5 years. I'm training for a hundred mile ultra and I was hoping these would be an alternative to the Mont Blanc, which Altra seems to have abandoned. The upper around the angle flares out to an insane degree and the two weird wing like appendages rub against each other. Abysmal.
