Never had a shoe that didn't have an open tongue. One side is sewn and as a result, or maybe not, there super tight across the fore foot.

Sad to see this shoe change for the worse from the superior 5. The wide toe box is gone and the new material and design creates weird pressure points that are very uncomfortable. Returned & hope Altra fixes this when they come out with the next shoe.

I used to be able to run Superior sockless out of the box. I ran a 50k sockless in an early version with no blisters. The 5's were the first version to give me a blister at first, but we broke each other in. The 6's have been been giving me blisters in several spots with no end in sight. Notably narrow in the forefoot, blisters on lateral side of foot. Top out eyelet corner cuts into ankle. Sad.

I've purchased these shoes in hopes for training and hiking. These shoes were really uncomfortable in the arch, no ankle support, and cheap quality. Really disappointed in those brand.

With every new Superior, Altra gets worse. VF ruined a once-great company with cheap materials on shoes seemingly no longer designed by runners. My feet can't take it. Returning these and moving on.

Bad. What happened? Did Altra get sold to a different company? Wide-toe box was virtually non-existent and they were a whole lot snugger than previous versions. Overall disappointed. Used to be a great shoe.

Awful trail shoe. Weird one sided tongue, stiff and extra wide heel, odd plastic-ey stiffness in places where it makes no sense. I made it about 45 seconds on the tread hating every step.

Sooooo narrow. Superior 4 was the best superior there was. This new one is so narrow. I miss the old Altra.

Used to be my go to brand, haven't fit right since they changed the last! Barefoot and zero drip since 09

I have owned every version of the Superior. v4 & v5 are by far my favorite experiences ever in a running shoe, and this version is a completely different shoe. The wide toebox is gone, and so is the high volume to give your foot room to breathe. I've heard issues with Altra shoes not having enough height around the ball of your foot for the last 2-ish years, but haven't personally had any issues on that front until now. It was so egregious that even with the shoe laces completely loose, the fabric of the shoe by itself was uncomfortably tight around my mid-foot area while sitting down. I can't even imagine running in these things. Next stop: Finding a left-over pair of Superior 5's (and maybe buying a second pair to have in reserve in case they don't fix this with the Superior 7).

The Superior 5 was the perfect shoe for me; literally the best shoe I've ever had on my feet. I've been rocking them for over 3,000 miles of my ECT thru-hike. I was disappointed after ordering the Superior 6 it's a completely different shoe and now I hate them. Way too narrow. Had to go with the Lone Peak 7 instead which somehow is still too narrow but tolerable.

General fit and finish of the shoe is quite good, and the last is in many ways more footshaped than the Lone Peak (wider in the midfoot, narrower in the heel). However, there is zero padding on the lower half of the tongue. This (combined with the fact that there are only 4 eyelets instead of the 5/6 of most running shoes) makes it impossible to achieve a good lockdown in the midfoot and forefoot without significant lace bite across the midfoot. Take the upper of the Lone Peak and add it to this midsole/outsole and you'd have a winner, but as is it is unwearable without significant sliding back and forth of the forefoot.
