I have wide flat feet and these are the most comfortable uppers I've ever owned! However, the soles make them very one dimensional for me. I've gone through four pairs and love them all WHEN IT IS DRY OUT! These shoes are awful on any type of wet terrain. I came to Altra from a decade of INOV8's and the two could not be more different. I am used to THE BEST traction in any condition on any surface with INOV8's and the Altra is the worst I have experienced. Customers have complained for years about this same problem yet Altra does nothing to improve them. I don't get it. Buy this shoe if you know you can count on dry trails and you won't be disappointed. Just know that if it's wet out these are a liability.

they need to be wide again. you guys really nailed it with the 5.0 and i'd love to see that in the next version. even though the durability probably improved with the new upper material, the 'sock with a sole' feel from the 5's was killer. i've been running and backpacking in superiors since the 2.5 and the 5's and 6's have been the best so far. again, they need to be wider. the 6 is visibly narrower than the 5 or any other i've worn. also, for anyone out there saying they aren't durable enough: i've put 800-1000mi on every pair of superiors i've had at ultra-distance days.
so please, the 5's, do that again. the superior is the best shoe in the world.

While at first the top near mid tongue felt a bit tight. I was scared it wouldn't work for my wide tall feet. It's all good afer a couple of days wearing them. They look and feel amazing. As for the people that like the 4 and 5 better, Altra sould definitely bring that model back making customer satisfaction a priority. Everyone has a different fit preference.

I bought this shoe to have the grip to push a sled at gym works great but heel seems to slip out
If I tie tighter only the lace section gets tighter
Great shoe though comfortable excellent grip

I enjoyed the Superior 5s immensely aside from an issue where the stitching along the outside attachment point coming undone where the soft material attached to the more rigid material.
The Superior 6 seems to have fixed this issue by adding an extra layer of stitching that feels stronger and more durable. The 6 looks fantastic as well. My only issue is that the Superior 6 feels like it is more narrow than the 5. I got the same size of Superior 6 as I did with the 5 and I have found that my foot feels much more constricted in the 6. Almost as if it is either too narrow side to side, or as if the depth of the shoe is not enough. I tend to replace the insoles of my shoes with an insert that gives me more support (because I have pretty high arches) but I was not able to do so with the Superior 6 and it STILL ends up making my foot go numb if I wear them for long periods. I have not checked the Altra website but if they had a size wider than "D", the problem would likely be solved.
TLDR: The 6 feels more durable but also feels more narrow than previous models.

True confessions: I am a female who bought this pair of shoes for men. I wanted a darker color not available for women, and slightly wider. I love the Altra comfort but have two complaints: these are labeled as black, but they're actually more of a dark gray/green. Just an FYI. Also, I'm not a fan of the attached tongue on one side. I can never get it lined up straight. That doesn't affect comfort, but I don't see it as an improvement. That said, I walked all over London with these on and they were a dream.

These feel true to size for 10.5 and plenty of room. There's a lot more flex in the toe area vs Timp 4's or Paradigm 7's so if you don't want that flex consider a different model. Overall, a good shoe.

Really enjoyed using the Men's Superior 6 for trail running. It's incredibly supportive, comfortable, and provides lots of traction even in slippery conditions. The weight is a bit much - perfect for training, too much for racing.

The Altra Men's Superior 6 is not a product I was familiar with before - I didn't even know about the brand before. But I would try out more products in the line after experiencing this one, and would recommend that others try it too.
Compared to other hiking style sneakers, this one is solid - it feels sturdy and protected from rain elements, without being bulky or heavy. I especially like how lightweight the shoes are.
I also like the balanced cushioning - even cushioning from heel to forefoot. It doesn't feel like the shoes are sloped down or at a weird angle. I do typically prefer a running cushion feel, so I hope that these shoes get more comfortable as I break them in more.
Altra Running has "a range of FootShape Fits designed for real feet" - I didn't try out different sizes as the one I got was true to size right out the box, which was great.
I received this product free to try from BzzAgent and Altra Running in exchange for an honest review.

Good shoe, solid construction. Comfortable, although too tight in the midfoot. Colorways aren't as horrible as the LP7, but still aren't great. Toe box is nice (doesn't have the annoying toe cap of the Rivera 3). So far it's been a really enjoyable workout/gym shoe.

Pros:
- True length
- Good laces
- Pillowy sole: comfortable like the Solstice, but would not protect from sharp rocks
Cons:
- Oddly narrow, pinches at the foot "ball width" and my feet are slender.
- The tongue bunches on my right shoe, creating a pressure point. After 25 miles in them, I don't know how to resolve that and may need to abandon them.
Sadly, I cannot recommend.

I wanted to love these shoes because they look really cool and have an aggressive tread. I've been running in minimalist shoes for over a decade and decided that I wanted something with a little more cushion, without sacrificing toe room, or zero drop. The length of these shoes is correct and the toe area might be roomy, but Altra forgot about the area where the toes connect to the forefoot. My wife (a PT) calls this the metatarsal head area of the foot. These shoes are way too narrow in this area. I don't want to go up to a size because the shoes would likely be too long.

Update on a previously posted review. The very rigid lacing anchor material digs into the top of foot. After miles on this shoe the farthest, lateral lacing anchor tip digs into the top of my foot just at the base of my little toe. Its created a hot spot. Hope it goes away.

The Superior 6 fit is more snug and the toe box material is constrictive. Religiously supporting 3+ generations of Superior and Lone peak these have very low volume ofmaterial at the toe bed to the point is created a hard fold and constricted at metatarsal toe bend. Wanted to love them as previous models and loved the colors but couldn't wear them.

The toe box is too shallow and puts a lot of pressure on the balls of my feet. I can't stretch the upper of the shoes to make them fit. Length is fine, but size 8.5 (42) feels a full size narrower than my size 8 (41) work boots. I have tried removing the insoles or wearing the shoes without socks, but both options are uncomfortable. I know someone with even wider feet than mine who would likely never get his toes in.

Transitioning to zero-drop. I've put 20 miles on. Still figuring things out, but they aren't comfortable yet. They seem to be made with cheap materials but seem sturdy enough. The jury is out

Even with the laces all the way loose, it's really tight across the mid and forefoot, which is disappointing. Might break in to fit, but that's not usually what I expect from Altra. My last four pairs of a variety of models all fit like a dream right out of the box. The toe-box itself is Altra-standard, but if your mid-foot is all crammed together, I can see why other reviewers found it too tight in one way or another. I didn't read the reviews--after so many pairs of Altras, I kind of assumed it'd be fine.
Cosmetically, the pull loop on the heel sticks out enough I could fit three fingers into it. I'm going to just cut it off, as I don't need that dangling around back there. Definitely trying to solve a problem no one actually has...
Really a weird shoe, despite looking like the most straight up the middle walking shoe in the catalog. Just... doesn't seem Altra-ish at all. Frustrating.

I have been wearing this shoe for several years and something about this version is not as well done as previous years. I’m a bit disappointed and will try a different version next time.

Quality seems to continue to diminish with each new model. I use to get a hood 6 months and now it's about half that time before the shoe comes apart.
In terms of styling the Supirior 5 could be worn with casual clothes but these new color patterns are an eye sore. What happened to built by runners for runners. These shoes were a favorite now I'm shopping for another brand.

I used to love the Superiors. The peaked at the 4.5 and then took a nose dive. Unfortunately, this shoe just isn't worth the investment anymore. I still love my Lone Peaks though.

I really want to stay with Altra, but I've switched to Topo Athletic for now. Too many slips & falls with the outsole. The Vibram on Topo shoes provides so much more security. Maybe one day Altra will get the hint.

Altra has redesigned the feel of this shoe from the original. With my high arches the upper midfoot clamps down on my foot and messes up my stride. The upper part of the quarter dug into my ankle, making me stop my run . I switched to the Escalantes.

The Superior has been my go to shoe since the Superior 2, serving me really well in distances up to 107 miles, and even including a few podium finishes. But the Superior 6 is too narrow (they wrap my mid foot too tightly, right at the bottom lace eyelets). I've worn them for a few 20+ mile runs, and I'm not confident I won't blister from the more narrow fit on something longer, so I just can't trust them going forward. Otherwise, I like everything else Altra did here, thus my 3-star rating. In the meantime, I'm buying a whole bunch of Superior 5's in hopes that the Superior 7s return to the fit that has served this shoe so well. Hopefully my stock of 5's last long enough to get me there.
