I don't understand how a shoe can go from perfect size (superior 5) to so small I can't get my foot into it (superior 6). Frankly I'm embarrassed and ashamed for Altra, it's redemption time for Altra to rise like a Phoenix from the ashes and create great shoes agan like before they sold out, to this end I pray...we all pray together that Altra will re discover what once made it great when runners rejoiced in foot shaped roomy shoes.

These are the best Superior to date. Last one wasn't bad but the super soft sock-like nature was a bit too exposed and awkward. The foam is incredible and underfoot protection is next level on the rocky trails I run on, especially when considering the minimal stack height. The foam also seems denser and more resistant to squish than the last model. The outsole is also not a death trap on wet rock like the last model, much improved. Good work!

I've had every version of the Superiors. Loved the 5s other than the toe cap delaminating inside on all 4 pairs I had. Hoped this would be fixed; sadly I can't tolerate how narrow V6 is in the forefoot

I absolutely love my Superior 4s, so I was excited for the Superior 6. Unfortunately, these shoes have way too little interior volume. With medium smartwool socks (and even the thinnest I own) it was clear there was absolute no way my foot would fit in these shoes. Far too much pressure on the outer top edge of both feet. Very strange as all of my other Altra size 11.5 shoes fit extremely well.
Minor feedback: The green laces and green trim on the black, grey, and orange version feels very out of place.

I'm new too already having just discovered it. Love the superior 6, great toe box room, good fit. Used them on a 28 mile backpacking trip.

I'm a nurse in a busy ER that puts miles on my feet daily at work. I also trail run and hike and I wear these shoes for all my adventures. Ive gone through at least 10 pair of the Superior 5 and love the Superior 6 even more.Wide toe box and great cushioning. It's hard to find size 15 shoes that fit me for all my needs but Altra nailed it. Thank you! I love it! More bright colors please!

I love this shoe.
I have put almost 800 miles on this shoe and I loved every single hike or run I did in them wether it was as a mile race or a marathon the shoe did its job perfectly. I know there is a lot of mixed reviews about the shoe and I think reason is that some people are looking for a minimalist/ barefoot style while others want more cushion and stability. The shoe is in that perfect in between, yes you will feel the ground and pebbles but it's not painful and it helps you be aware of where/ how to put your foot correctly on the trail. I really hope they come out with another model but for the time being this shoe has my five stars.

Fits my feet perfectly. Not overly cushioned height so no chance of spraining an ankle if using for tennis or rough hikes

The Superior 6 improved on the Superior 5: better wet traction and a fabric that better resists picking up stickers. I don't notice any change in fit from the 5 as some have, though the medial and lateral toe box is more reinforced which could account for this perception. I use these as an everyday walking and light hiking shoe. Pending their durability, they are my ideal zero heel trail shoe. (Don't say "drop". The founder of Altra made up that term in 2009. The industry traditionally referred to heel height; zero heel, 5mm heel, etc. You don't call women's fashion shoes "high drops" do you?)

Excellent shoe that has held up for over 700 miles of trail running and hiking in the Rocky Mountains. At the time of this review I have put over 670 miles of running and over 30 of hiking/scrambling.

I take this shoe everywhere: Easy gravel runs, boring road runs, exciting technical trail runs and fast hikes. Wet, Dry, Dusty, muddy, rocky, even the hotel gym... whatever, wherever! For almost 15 years, I wore Salomon shoes exclusively for all that. Then they started making clown shoes and i moved on. I tried a few other shoes, but nothing worked all around like this shoe. And for someone who lives out of a suitcase for over half of my life each year, a do-everything shoe is really important. But, this isn't just a jack of all trades master of nothing shoe: it excels in nearly every area. OK, so it isn't built for the road or the gym, but is works there, too.
I prefer trail runs and can't take tall stack heights due to a couple severe ankle injuries late in life that will never really heal, which is why I tried these on. And they are light weight! Just enough cushioning to soften the blows and pointy things on the trails/roads but not so much you lose your sense of the earth beneath you.
Altra's Superior 6 is incredible. I've run through two pair and now am getting a third soon enough. I'm excited to try Altra's hiking boots!

I love this shoe. zero drop allows for great knee alignment, and extension. it reduces stresses on the knee. I have the best balance, stride, and foot strike with this shoe. I am mostly a trail walker not a runner

Based on a first day's walk and trail run, these are great! The fit is perfect and the connection to the surface I'm on is exactly how I like it. I've heard there might be issues when wet but I will have to wait and see.

Those criticizing these shoes know nothing about good running shoes. These have great support. Never stop making these. Thick outsoles on running shoes SUCK. These are perfect for your feet.

I've been wearing these since the Superior 1 or 2. I love the colors! Please consider making the next round of Superiors in exclusively DayGlo colors!

The Altra Superior (4/5/6) is the best shoe I've ever owned/worn.
I had zero complaints about the 4, but I have one complaint about the 5 & 6 why the ugly color options? What happened to the (more universally adaptable) black/grey of the Superior 4?
This funky rusty, beige, forest green, bright colors, odd patterns, etc. trend in the "outdoorsy" area needs to die. It's okay to make a mostly black shoe, with subdued, monochromatic accent colors.
Please at least offer ONE simple color combo that doesn't scream "I'm eclectic!" We should be free to wear these with some blue jeans and a jacket and not look like we're dressed for mutually exclusive activities/occasions.
I've attached an image of the color combo I'd like to see come back.

I love these shoes. Great for walking around. So comfortable. I wear Asics Kayano for running but these are my every day walk around shoes.
I'd also recommend:
Asics, New Balance

I bought these for my 12 year old son, who's feet grow by the second.. Instead of returning, I kept for me! Love the style, better looking in person, and wash perfectly. Would buy again!

I absolutely love my Altra superior 5. They were the second pair of "barefoot" style shoes I purchased, and I've now tried five brands. Lems are well built and comfortable, but not great in wet conditions, Xero have lasted a long time, but they're not very stylish. My viviborefoot have started falling apart after 3 months! These altra's are the only shoe that feels like the manufacturing process is solid. They are very light, very comfortable and they're by far, the best built, most durable, and long lasting shoe I've purchased in the zero drop category. I love my Altras

I've been very happy with these shoes so far! One oddity in the design is that the tongue is fully attached to the shoe on one side, and is more traditional on the other side (overlap with a gusset that would normally keep it centered, but in this case I guess just keeps it from falling into the shoe too far). It makes the shoes feel a little odd to put on, but I'm sure I'll get used to it. Quality seems good and there was little to no break-in period. Looking forward to wearing these more!
