This is a nice jacket. I can't wait to wear it as a mid-layer this winter. The material is very soft and lightweight. Will fold up nicely into its own pocket. Always good to have when traveling during the winter. The sleeves are a bit short. Especially when you do activities, they rise up. I would recommend making the sleeve longer and the shoulder accommodate movement. Otherwise, its such a nice jacket. I love the orange.

I love this jacket, it is so light and much warmer than I expected. This will be a key layering piece for me in the winter, there is no puff, so when I put my down coat over it I won't look like a marshmallow. When I go to Chicago in the winter I will be toasty, not fluffy.

I found this jacket at a store in Short Pump, Virginia during the holiday break. I tried it on, and it was an excellent fit! I was hesitant simply because I wanted to do more shopping before making my decision. I ended up in a rush and didn't get to return for the jacket before leaving the area. From my home in North Carolina the next day, I looked everywhere for a store that sold this particular jacket. I ended up driving back to Virginia to buy the coat, but it was already sold out. I purchased a different one that was similar from another store, but returned it two days later; because it wasn't the Red Ochre, L. L. Bean jacket! Thankfully, I took a photo of the tag on the original jacket and was able to find it online! I ordered it immediately, and it arrived in just a couple of days. I LOVE it! I like that it's not bulky, but it keeps me comfortably warm without binding. Another feature is the technology pocket. It has plenty of space for any size cellular device or battery pack. Evidently it's an eye-catcher because for some reason, coworkers and random people have complimented me on it. I'm a happy guy!

Very happy with this jacket for the price! (I bought it on sale) The jacket is quite warm for its weight and does a good job of blocking wind. Standing around, I'm comfortable down to the low 50s / high 40s with just this and a t-shirt, depending on sun and wind, so I'd say that L.L. Bean's temperature rating for this jacket is pretty accurate. In the end, it's a great single layer for late spring / early fall, and in the colder months a great layering piece combined with a fleece jacket and/or other insulated piece.
For those for whom weight is a primary concern, my regular size medium weighs 13.15 oz. You can get lighter-weight jackets out there, but on sale this is a fantastic value.
The pockets provide tons of convenient storage space, although I'd prefer to have one less zipper in return for some weight savings.
My only criticism is that the hood is less snug than I'd like and tends to ballon up or blow off when facing into the wind. I'd really appreciate a way to adjust the hood to prevent that. The hood also sits a bit boxy on the back of my head, so that there are two small peaks on either side. This sort of gives the strange impression of cat ears...
Despite that minor stylistic complaint, this is a fantastic jacket!
P.S.: L.L. Bean, start publishing the weight of items like this!

Nice coat but not the warmest. Need to wear layers. Temperatures in low 20's it is not warm enough

I got this coat for my birthday last week and I love it. I only gave 4 stars because it does run a bit small. I usually wear a large in just about everything but from past experiences with LL Bean I figured I should size up to a XL. The XL is perfect, but if I had not previously had a coat from LL Bean I would have ended up with a L and a return.

I've had this for a few years now and it's held up well. I'm 5'10, 160-165 lbs and a medium fits well. Relatively snug but loose enough to wear say a swearer underneath. If you are my size and barrel chested say, you would want to move up to a large. Everybody's warmth tolerance is different and a jacket that is warm for one person might be chilly for another. Compared to jackets I've owned I would say the warmth of this jacket is smack in between a lined windbreaker and a light weight down jacket of similar size. When outside doing a brisk walk, I'll wear this down to 40 degrees or so, maybe a little cooler if wearing a warm underlayer. It holds up ok for awhile in a light rain, although of course, not a jacket of choice if deliberately heading out in the rain People in colder climates such as I in New England, don't make the mistake of thinking this is a winter coat. Another con is the hood is not snug nor adjustable and will not stay in place if windy. I don't understand why many manufacturers don't include a hood adjustment in these jackets. But overall, I would recommend this jacket but only four stars, not five.

Great lightweight jacket. Wish the seams were tighter so air doesn't come through.

Seems to fit as expected (XL) and perfect weight. Wish the bottom/waist was a bit more snug, but otherwise a great hoodie. In fact got a couple more as well.

This is the second color I've bought this in! Perfect for an active person in Colorado. I now have one for winter running and one that stays sweat-free. Only downside is it's fairly easy to tear (that is, dog nails will get you!).

When this went on sale I had to get a third one. I wasn't going to try it on because I live in this jacket, I'm so glad I did because the sleeves are 3 inches longer than the other 2 that I own. There was no way to remedy this so I had to send it back. Other than that I'm sure it would have been another 5 star as I can wear this jacket when it is 40 or 10 below layered with my LL bean fleece lined flannel hoodie. Very sad.

Excellent Travel Jacket that packs away into a very lightweight and compact pillow like packet. Very warm in windy situations, have tested yet sub-freezing. Only complain was the material quality, as the outside shell received a slight tear when brushed against a door frame, that was a little rough, but not sharp. True to their guarantee though, they have swapped my jacket out and I hope the second one will hold up true to LL Bean's long standing quality reputation and that the one incident was just a fluke.

I bought this product (X-Large, Tall) for a hiking trip in Scotland last month. I usually wear Large Tall but had to return it for XL size as it was quite tight. It kept me warm in 40 degree damp temperatures, even becoming a bit too warm at times. It provides some protection from the wind also. It fits well in the sleeves and body and the hood is especially well-fitting. I have some concern about how it will wear long-term at the places my pack shoulder straps and waist belt rub. One design issue that bothers me; the jacket folds inside one of the pockets, but the pocket doesn't have a double zipper pull that allows closure of the packed jacket when packed. Since an LL Bean competitor's similar jacket has that feature, I hope LL Bean will step up and correct that flaw.

The jacket was too large in the neck and hood. Hood has no adjustments to tighten around face. Small face, narrow neck, big gaps for wind and cold. Not cut for slender man. Other similar jackets have the same issur.

I was hoping for a much sturdier winter coat. However, it turned out to be very lightweight. Also, the sizing ran small as a L usually fits me from Bean.
