Simply perfect. I purchased a 6.5 wide. I have had multiple foot and ankle surgeries and so was looking for comfort and cushioning. All the metal and swelling in my foot and ankle means that in most styles a wide works best. My surgeon recommends Hoka.

I've been wearing Cliftons for the past 7 years. I've loved them. I'm on my feet at work and Cliftons have been fantastic for my foot pain. Unfortunately, after the redesign, the Clifton 9s have a longer tongue that goes up my ankle and hits my ankle bone. It's uncomfortable. I'm going to try and find some Clifton 8s for now and hope they go back to the shorter tongue on the next design. If not, I guess I'll have to start looking for a new shoe. I've tried for a couple days to upload a picture to show the difference in the length of the tongue with the Clifton 9 on the left and the Clifton 8 on the right but am not having any luck. Hopefully this helps others figure out why they are having pain with their beloved Hokas. They aren't the same as before.

I was so excited when the Clifton 9's came out. The new colors!!!! So I ordered a pair. These are not the Clifton 8s. I have had 7 pairs of the 8s and love them. The 9s however are not the same. I have a lot of issues with my feet - plantar fasciitis, tarsal tunnel syndrome, tendonitis to name a few - and, from the moment I put the 9s on, all of these issues, especially the plantar fasciitis, were inflamed. I tried to wear them for a few days thinking that, if I broke them in, they'd be okay. They weren't. The only 2 good things I can say about the 9s are the toe box is wider and the colors are great. Please, HOKA, go back to the footbed of the 8s. Why do shoe companies always fix what isn't broke???

Hello. I have been wearing clifton since the "6" version and on and have loved them all the way through until now. The 9's are just a different shoe....longer and harder and just a poor fit. So disappointed!!! What have you done and why!!??!!

I love my Bondi 7s/Clifton 8s. Something about this Clifton 9 made me so frustrated. Across the board I'm an 8B. I tried that size in this shoe to no avail. The fit was great except my toes would tap the top of the shoe. Okay.. 8.5B. Toe was perfect but my heel was sliding in the back. I realized my store carried wide therefore I gave this shoe one last try with the 8D and it was a perfect fit!! I NEVER would have expected to buy a wide shoe because I have regular feet. If you have the patience to fool with multiple sizes to find the right one, go for it! It's definitely more stiff and structured than it's counterparts which will take some adjustments.

These are so comfortable. I have only worn them to walk in so far, but they are the perfect combo of supportive yet cushy.

These Clifton 9 are supposed to be more plush, they are painful to stand in .Walking feels like I'm wearing wedges which I don't like ,it does prevent me from walking on the outsides of my feet but the bottom of my heels ache. I've had these for about two and a half weeks wearing them every day. Also they are not attractive shoes. I'm very disappointed and would not buy these again For reference I'm 5'6 about 210lb Please hurry and restock the black/ black Clifton 8

I have had several surgeries on my right foot and have to find shoes with great support. My daughter told me about these shoes and we went to a local store to look at them. Very limited selection. Saw them on Zappos and was really pleased with all of the choices. Wore them out yesterday and made 4 stops and they held me up pretty well. Still pretty whipped by the end of day but feel that these shoes really helped me get things done.
I'd also recommend:

I am a loyal Hoka customer but these were so disappointing. I ordered the all white and the material is like a paper towel. It like it is about quantity now instead of quality!

This is not it, Hoka. The 9's lack cushion and comfort. The tongue is lacking in the cushion that the 8's had, digging into the top of the foot. The footbed feels equivalent to walking around on yoga blocks not providing the comfort of the previous iteration. A total miss.

Hoka is my favorite brand of athletic shoes and I have three pairs of Clifton 8. When Clifton 9 came out, I ordered a pair in my usual size, 8.5 B. I loved the extra cushioning but the shoes were too big. When I went down a size and tried on an 8B, they were a bit too small. Glad that I have my three Clifton 8s. I hope that when Clifton 10 comes out, Hoka returns to the sizing Clifton 8 but keeps the plushness of Clifton 9.

These 9's are different in a few areas, one of which - compared to the 8's - I do not like. The tongue being it. With the 8's I could slip them on without needing to touch the shoes. LOVED that. I cannot do this with the 9's because the area on the tongue where the laces go through is slightly lower compared to the 8's. So I am having to pull on the tongue after putting the 9's on. That's my only complaint! I love the change they made to the foam of the shoe, it feels slightly firmer/thicker/more dense, but still plush. They are still an extremely comfortable shoe, the only ones I wear currently after discovering them. I have had 3 knee surgeries over 10 yrs and wish I found these sooner than I did. Hoka and more specifically the Clifton style have made a big difference for me in comfort and support while I stay active.

I bought my first pair of Hokas on the recommendation of my foot surgeon who highly recommended Hokas. I have totally enjoyed the Clifton 8. I prefer the sole and the more slender appearance. I find the Clifton 9 more wide in the toe box and the sole is more like the Bondi sole.

I had to buy a total of 5 pairs to find the right size. I wear an 8 in a different style of Hokas and had to size down to 7 wide for this pair. Now that I have the right size, I am trailing them to see if I'm going to keep them.

I have 2 pairs of Clifton 8s and loved them! I was really excited to transition to the Clifton 9s for marathon training but feel let down. The side of the shoe rubs up against my ankle bone, like the dip is in the wrong spot. I need more toe box space so I got a wide but after each of my 3 runs in these my toes really hurt. I bought a 3rd pair of Clifton 8s yesterday.

I am a new hoka wearer, my first pair was the Clifton 8 which I love and have in two colors. I ordered the Clifton 9 simply for the new color way and honestly I liked the way they look better. I wasn't sure how I would like them because of all the bad reviews, I used to run but no longer do besides for volleyball due to a 2 year knee injury. I walk a lot though and wear these for casual wear so this review is based on that. However I LOVE the Clifton 9! I think this shoe is great. I am flat footed and it has so much support, they're comfortable, supportive and look so good on. I feel like my feet are more secure in these than my Clifton 8. However I love both, I think I could run better in the 8 possibly, but the comfort is there regardless in both of the shoes it just depends on your presence. I ordered my true size 8 and they're perfect, I also have very narrow feet. I was confused on the comments about these running big because I don't think they do. You don't want your toes hitting the top of the shoe so I'd say stick to your true size. Overall love these shoes, I want a pair in every color.

I've loved my previous Clifton's but planning to return the 9. They do not feel as cushioned as the previous versions, plus they seem narrower than before.
