I walk 3-5 miles daily. I run a bit, too. These shoes are extremely comfortable and stable. The tread is great for slippery and rocky trails. Altras in general have an issue with durability for the price. It's getting better but still a problem. My last Olympus 5's had a hole in the toe in 5 mon. I still buy them. I've probably bought 12 pairs over the last 7 yrs.

Use shoes to primarily hike. This is my second pair of Olympus 5 and I am basically happy with them but find that this pair doesn't seem to have as good as arch support.

I love using Altra for jogging and walking but this style I use for vanity.

The Altra Olympus 5 does NOT come in a WIDE WIDTH and therefore doesn't fit my foot. The overall shoe is great, just doesn't accommodate my foot/body needs.

These have a strange back to the heel that pinches your Achilles. The first time I wore them I got a horrible blister after a mile. I generally prefer to walk/run with no socks but can't do it with these. Also, be careful... I came to love Altras for their wide fitting style but very few of the types of shoes they have still use that original style.

Please add cushioning to the tongue to buffer the top of foot from the pressure of shoelaces, as well as irritation where tongue hits front of ankle. PLEASE also add longer shoelaces - way too short.

Once you have worn the bigger toe box it's hard to go to anything else. The cushion has helped my planter fasciitis more than therapy, medication, stretching, or ice. I work 12-16 hour shift and my legs do not ache afterwards..LOVE these shoes!

I love love love these shoes, and was so sad to have to return them. I have a medium-sized bunion on one foot and was in pain after 2 minutes of wearing. That said, if you have wide feet without bunions, you'd be very happy with this shoe! I've seen some say that they think the rounded toebox shape is not flattering, but I LOVE IT SO MUCH and have such a hard time finding that shape elsewhere. Dear Altra, I know you're known for your wide toebox, but for the many who have dreadful feet issues, please still throw some wide sizes our way! We (the feet-issue people) are willing to pay for shoes that we can be active in without pain! I ended up keeping the Hoka Speedgoat 5 pair I bought in sz 10W. No regrets, but would have loved to have been able to keep the Altras.

Love Altras, very comfy to wear all day, hiking or around town. But, they no longer have the regular padded tongue and if you wear shorty socks, which I do, it digs into your leg. Thats the only thing holding me back!

I've been dealing with plantar fasciitis for several months now as well as other foot problems. I've found these to be the most comfortable sneakers, and I've tried many. Lots of room in toe box, good support. I do have to upgrade the insole because of my foot issues. They are stylish, much more so than most other brands which advertise comfort for problem feet. I am on my third pair of Olympus 5.

I love ALMOST everything. So comfortable out of the box and I LOVE the toe box, best ever. However, the tongue is stiff and rubs painfully on my ankle! I'm so bummed I can't wear short socks!

I wear these shoes every day. All day. I had HOKA Bondi 7 and made the switch because of low back pain. These shoes are fantastic. Helped low back pain and also helped me walk without running over the sides of the shoe. I would definitely buy again.

As others have mentioned, the sizing has changed. I've had at least eight pairs of Altras, mostly Olympus and Lone Peaks. I've always been a 7.5 in Altra, but had to return the 7.5s. They were short and narrow. Eight fits like the old 7.5. I agree with the "sharp edges on the tongue" comments as well. They seem odd and unnecessary. And the last thing is that the arch support feels a bit less than the old Olympus. However, even with these changes, Altras are still my favorites.

This shoe looked a little clunky but once on my feet they looked good. They do seem to run at least 1/2 size smaller, so I had to return and get a larger size. Still awaiting the arrival of larger size.

I have trained in the Olympus 4's and love them, see my original review of these Olympus 5's in January. After doing a lot of long distance training walks in the 5's they really started bothering my toes, the toe box seemed shorter or something. Frustrated that I paid so much for them but they were not working...I'm training for the French Camino for May so I need to get the correct shoe NOW. I was able to find a pair of the Olympus 4's from an online store, they worked perfect and will probably wear those on the Camino as I did for the Portuguese Camino last May. I just got off the phone with the Altra factory and told them my story about being disappointed in the 5's after trying to wear them on the 10-15 mile training walks...it seems that they are using a new way of attaching the sole to the shoe, shortening the shoe by 1/2 size...why didn't they mention that when I originally purchased them in January. They told me to size up 1/2 size but they wouldn't compensate me in a way of a discount should I purchase another pair of the Olympus 5. I haven't looked at the website on what they say but they really do need to include the info. I will probably purchase another pair, 1/2 size larger, but right now I'm really bummed. BEWARE! Size up and return them if you have to before your 30 day guarantee is up. I still love my Olympus 4's but can't find another pair around in my size.

Came so close to keeping these, but the tongue was a bit “sharp” against my skin with no-show socks and I was concerned I’d get rubbed raw. Otherwise they’d have been great.

Compared to the Olympus 4, this version is shorter and a little heavier. My first run in them was for 4 hours on a lake trail and they are feeling better that they are broken in. My toes do seem to hit the edge, so I will not plan on wearing them on trails with a lot of downhill.

I will preface this by saying I am not a runner - I got these shoes to protect my toes while working with excited kiddos who have difficulty with spatial awareness and motor control. I've been stood on and jumped on, and my toes are fine thanks to these shoes! An unexpected benefit: these shoes have made corrections to my gait. The curved forefoot forces me to push off with my toes (instead of just pulling myself along), which helps me walk twice as fast. I'm able to move with ease and keep up with people who are walking at an average pace, which I've not been able to do in years. The drawback is these shoes aren't super comfy. They feel too short in the toes. If I half size up, the insole hits in all the wrong places, so I settle for dealing with my big toe hitting the hard top of the shoe. The bottoms of my feet are also not delighted in these shoes, especially when I'm sitting and not putting my full weight on my feet. That said, I call these my "magic shoes" because they allow me to do things with more speed and less fatigue. The stack height also helps me sit at tables with my feet fully on the floor, which helps my back. If they were just a tad longer, they'd be perfect.

I suffered from bunions and neuroma. I have been wearing Olympus 5 for a week now. So far no pain from neuroma and my bunions certainly appreciate the big toe box. Thank you.

These were a very solid pair of trail running shoes. I don't trail run as much as I'd like anymore living in a city, but got out to a hiking trail with these and can say they were exactly what they needed to be. I felt stable and sure in them. The only reason they didn't get 5 stars was because the hard toe hit my big toes to the point of bruising them a bit. I've had that issues with other trail shoes too though so I think it's just the price your toes pay to be protected.

These shoes are very comfortable and feel like cushion clouds around the feet. I would say the width does seem a bit loose around the feet which may not be the best for running. But as an athletic shoe it is very snug. The shoes actually add some inches of height as well because the sole or the shoe has a lot of padding. The design is "futuristic", similar to a space boot, since the design is somewhat squared, but I LIKE IT overall.

Have purchased many Altra shoes over the years. Happy with all sizes and styles. First time ordering directly from Altra and I was very happy with that. Quick ordering and quick shipping. I highly recommend using the shoe matching feature on the website. I'm happy with my purchases.

I loved them but had to return. The largest womens size was a full size too small.
