Olympus 4 fits like a glove, several 100 mile races ran w/ the 4's with no blisters. The 5's are a disaster. Extra cushion put in but they failed to account for sizing.

On the third hike the shoe is already falling apart, the size is off, and the tongue cuts into your ankle, the back is bruising my heel, and the laces are too short to heel lock them for going down hill, the previous model was amazing, I am really disappointed in the Olympus 5, now I am on the shoe hunt again.

Was running on the PCT and felt something weird on bottom of my feet. Like other reviewers have posted, treads on both shoes were peeling off!! Luckily only had a couple miles left but it was slightly nerve-wracking and couldn't imagine if I was further out and this happened. Seems like a serious safety hazard especially for trail runners which this shoe is intended for. Too bad, I loved everything else about this shoe!

I love my Olympus 4. I wear them all the time for everything. I saw a great sale on the Olympus 5's so ordered 2 pairs in the exact same size and have been wearing them to work and have now come to the conclusion they are about .5-1" shorter than my other pair. My toes are constantly hitting the end of this newer version but they fit perfectly fine in the 4's. Why would you change the length from one year to the next???? So disappointing.

Pictures show it all! Thought Altra had their significant quality control issues under wraps. Guess not! Brand new model soles fell off within 20 miles. Ridiculous!

The shoes were not for me. I need more cushion in the shoebox. I had to return them, just waiting for refund.

Very comfortable shoes, was wearing them inside to work at the hospital. Had to return both pairs, due to sole issues, spikes were peeling off after 3-4 weeks of use. Poor quality for the price paid.

These do not feel like trail runners. The base is huge. So heavy, clunky and unbendable its like a runner's top on top of a hiking boot. As others have said the heel is way to wide and slips too.
I was super disappointed as I wanted to have something else from Altra besides the Mont Blancs but this ain't it. I returned them and ordered a 3rd pair of Mont Blancs instead.

Could not keep these because they were not wide enough to accommodate my bunions. I had to return them and waiting for my refund.

Why did you break the Olympus? I've been wearing Olympus series for years with lots of success, before now. This version 5 is unwearable.
The new toe box is too stiff around the metatarsal joints; the new heel is too big, tall, padded, and stiff; and the tongue is too stiff and cuts into the shin. I needed to see a physical therapist after wearing these shoes.
Your customer service team's response was to tell me to try the Olympus Via, which will not meet my muddy trail needsespecially in the white and pastel colors (c'mon Altra, why no dark fabric colors and dark soles for women?)
Please do better.

With all of the cushioning these shoes have I wish that they were a bit roomier it seems they use the same material on the top and did not account for The added cushioning making the shoes extremely tight the tongue of the shoe was absolutely horrible with the tightness of the shoes you could just feel the lacing across the top of your foot I returned them

Stop with the tongues. Go back to having all of them like the Lone Peak - soft, padded. I cannot even get a thicker padding on my shoe with the Olympus because of the blasted tongue. It cuts into my leg.

I actually wanted to love these shoes so much! I ordered them again after a return, ordering size larger than what I have always worn in Altras. What happened with sizing?
Forgot to mention after two short runs (approximately 5 miles) they are already shredding side when the tongue and shoe meet. I understand wear will happen but at 10 mile on buffed out trails?

I have painful neuropathy in my feet and the wide toe box & cushioning in Olympus shoes have been amazing for me! I love my Olympus 4's. But these 5's are problematic. They felt fine wearing them around the house, but wearing them out on my first hike after a mile I discovered that the heel tab was causing pain in my Achilles' tendons from the constant pressure on them. And that my toes were hitting the ends of the shoes. They definitely fit smaller than the Olympus 4's and it even set off my neuropathy. Thank goodness for Altra's 30 day trial so I can return these! I now snapped up as many 4's I could find. Also laces are too short. But cushioning, wide toe box, and gaiter traps are great.

First of all the tongues of the shoe cut into my ankles. They are sharp which is very strange. I Still have scars on my ankles from over a week ago. Unfortunately I'll have to return these. Also the right shoe feels to narrow in center of the foot and became uncomfortable. The toe box is wide but the mid section is not for wide feet.
