I am very excited about these shoes. They are very comfortable and are not too narrow. I stand throughout the entire day and walk around constantly. These shoes are so comfortable throughout the entire shift. Even when my feet are sweating, I don't notice my shoes. I have taken these on a trail run once and really loved how protective they are. I felt very stable in them and sturdy. I really like the look of the shoe on the outside. The laces are the perfect length.

I've been wearing Altras for a number of years and love the comfort, the wide toe box and the overall fit. But this time I was a little disappointed. Whats with the short shoe laces???? If I had a wider foot, I wouldn't be able to tie them securely (it's a challenge as is). For the price of these shoes, they certainly could provide laces of adequate length.

I have bad ankles after a fracture and must wear neutral balance shoes with strong ankle support. These fit perfectly and are extremely comfortable right out of the box. However, the tongue is strange; not comfortable. I have to wear a heavy sock over the front of my foot.

I have to say this is one of the BEST cushion shoes I've tried. However, the tongue fits too far back on my ankle and the Achilles support area is too high. If these 2 things could be adjusted, this would be my shoe. The look/ colors were amazing. I have a neutral, under-pronating foot with diffuse arthritis.

These are great shoes -- with at least ankle socks! I tried them with footies and the plastic (wtf?!?!) tongue and something in the inside lining cut into my feet. I spent my 2-mile walk tucking leaves into my shoes as bandaids. With socks, they are super comfortable to wear all day for miles and miles. But it's a dumb design.

I love these shoes!!! The width is perfect for giving your toes wiggle room when you run. The cushion is great and the styling is spot on. I just wish they made a half size up. (Only comes in 10.5, not 11)
I'd also recommend:

I've been hesitant to try new versions of old Altra favorites, because everything seems to be headed in the wrong direction. These however, are great. The padding/tongue/fit are very similar to the Olympus 4 that I love. The improved heel tab is great. The toe box maybe feels a touch more narrow than the the 4, but this is an improvement in my mind. The cushion level is the same, which is really the most important part in my mind. I am worried about the quality though, as the stitches on the tongue are already unraveling fresh out of the box. The new colors are a huge improvement over the 4s.

I had been holding off on buying the Olympus because they looked like too much shoe. They certainly don't feel like it. I was surprised at how light and grippy the shoes are. Love the high heel collar - your feet aren't going anywhere, although I'd recommend wearing a crew sock with these. I do feel like the length is a bit short. I'm typically a 7.5 in Altras (and other brands) and am hitting my toes on the ends of these. I'd recommend going up a half size, especially if you have any foot swelling during long distances. Only downside for me is the price.

I am having multiple foot/toe issues and these have really helped them improve. However, the tread is falling off:(. I also do not feel they are as grippy as other brands I have used and not as durable for bushwhacking/off trail. I love the feel but sad they seem to fall apart too soon:(

I always buy my running shoes a half size bigger. I bought the same size in these Altras and they are too snug and my first two toes were sore after wearing them once.

These are a solid shoe, though they're not nearly as comfortable as my previous pair of Altra's, unfortunately. The good: the tread is great; able to handle climbing & hiking even in wet, slippery situations. The bad: while the ball of the foot has plenty of room, my big toes are fairly cramped and at the end of a day I can't wait to get them off. Also, the shoe's tongue is NOT soft at all. It's sharp and digs into my ankles. I actually have (hopefully not permanent) red marks from the tongue rubbing my ankles.

I purchased these after loving the Lone Peaks, but these have a different heel fitment. Everything else about the shoe is great, but the padding for the heel seems to be quite low, while the heel collar comes up to the correct spot. They are very comfortable, just not as secure on the heel as I would like.

So I love Altra shoes, the “Original” shape shoe is plenty wide for my wide toes
double wide foot, and they are well made. But this a cheap looking shoe, no real arch support, not made for running, look bad after washing- all puckered up. A fail for an Altra shoe.

I wanted to love these but they feel very stiff and uncomfortable. I'm giving them a little more time to break in, but I'm afraid they'll be getting returned.

I fell in love with Altras in the last year. This is my third pair in size 9. I run on trails most days, and took these out for a spin. They felt a little short, but I thought maybe it was just me on the down hill. Alas, on a flat run it was the same. I couldn't send them back as they were super dirty so I gave them to my niece who is thrilled. I wish the sizing was consistent, but that's how it is sometimes. I'm on the fence about ordering this model again. The red is just so good looking. Still a fan, but a little inconvenienced.

When I first put these on, I thought oh wow these feel great. I usually order 8 in Altras, and got these in an 8.5. My big toe was rubbing and it felt very stiff. The tongue on these is also stiff and scratchy. I would maybe order up in another size, but for the price, I expected better.

I LOVED this shoe for style and metatarsal support BUT the heel slipped up and down unfortunately. I have a medium width but the heel was still too big. They are very supportive outside of the slippage! I have to return.

Started the AT and in less than 100 miles the left toe started peeling back. 50 more miles, right shoe doing the same! both shoes are being held together with shoe goo. Expected them to last longer.

The reason I gave this shoe a three star review is because the cons outweigh the pros. I have purchased many of the Olympus before an overall they have been great. The pros: very comfortable, great grip on the soul and very durable. The cons: the shoelaces do not stay tied. The heel tends to slip out of the back of the shoe if not tied tightly enough. Also, the tongue of the shoe tends to slip. The laces are very hard to tighten from the toe of the shoe. Overall the comfort and the grip are worth it, if you are willing to put up with the cons I've listed.

I had the Altra Olympus 4 before this shoe, and those were excellent. Great fit, super supportive and soft at the same time. Something about this version is different though. It feels stiffer, like the impact from the ground hits harder, even when on trail terrain. My toes seem to hit the forefront on foot strike, which was not an issue with the 4. And the toe box feels a little tighter on the 5, as my bunion gets a bit irritated after a run. I did love the brown/red color combo though, they look great. I seem to be using them more for walking than running though.

The tongue design on this shoe is not designed thoughtfully. The plastic and the cloth met at the end, and there was no protection on the edge, and I got cut from the material on the front of my ankles. The fabric/material on the shoes is not quite unforgiving for those who have bunions on their feet. The thickness on the back for padding caused a lot of blisters on my feet (the back of my ankles), and it's quite narrow for feet that have bunions (it could be the material that makes the shoes feel tight in the width even though the shoes are "designed" as the wide toe box).

I'm very disappointed the new Olympus 5 aren't working for me. I wore out my 4's and am in desperate need for new trail shoes. These just run so small. In normal shoes I wear a 10 and running trail shoes a 10.5. I've worn 10.5 in a variety of Altra's for year. Tried the 5's in a 10.5 and too short (width was fine). Went up to an 11 and still too small. Other than my toe hitting they felt great everywhere else. If they fit I know I would love them. I just wish they didn't fit small. 11.5 seem to be out of stock or not available. And I can't wait. I need new shoes for a trip coming up. Bummed I'm going to have to look elsewhere as I don't want to try another style blind.

Ordered my typical size as Olympus 4 but this 5 model is much smaller. I reordered a 1/2 and a full size bigger and trying to determine which is better. The tongue is super stiff - which is ironically, the only place I get blisters- from that sharp tongue digging in my ankle. So far it does feel more cushioned than the 4 model.
