Love this upgrade! I have a pair of the Escalante 2s and I've been using them for shorter runs/speed stuff. Altra gave me a pair of the Escalante 3s to try and they will be my new everyday trainer. A little bit more cushion for higher/longer mileage, but not as much as the Torins which are a bit much for me.

I'm in love with the patterns- feminine and fierce; even the insole and shoelaces are pretty! These are by far my favorite version of this shoe as far as comfort and color. I love everything about them. The cushion is fantastic.

This is the first pair of Altra shoes I've purchased and I am over the moon! After struggling to find shoes with a wider toe and supportive sole, I am SO PLEASED. And I love the design!

I've been using Altras for 6 years and these are my favorites to use for variable terrain. I run on roads and trails. I like the lower cushion and the flexibility of the shoe, while still having enough cushion to decrease impact.

I LOVE the Escalante shoe. I wish the tongue wasn't so thick. The 2 was perfect. The 3 is a bit narrower & with the tongue thickness it feels tighter. Please consider changing back for future models.

I love altras, I have 3 different models and have also bought my dad a couple pairs as well. But... is it possible to refine the features offered here? For example, I use the Escalante for road running. In Portland. Where it rains. The toe is constantly getting WET and so dirty because the entire foot is that sock like material. Socks are notorious for soaking up water. Can we get a little waterproof toe guard please? Maybe some DWR? Also, for ROAD shoes, you would think some reflective would be offered somewhere. My Superior's have reflective, but if that is truly a "trail" shoe, why is it more necessary to have reflective on there than on a road shoe, in a CITY, where we are much more likely to get hit by traffic and where there are more headlights to actually illuminate the shoe? I'm so confused by the feature sets here.... I love Altra for the footbed and zero drop and cushioning and am always on the look out when new pairs come out, but I really think some additional thought could be put into the features and kinds of shoes that are offered. Also, the lifestyle shoes really don't look like lifestyle at all. Lifestyle is supposed to look more versatile and wearable and I really don't feel it's hitting the mark. Please give me a reason to buy more shoes from Altra!!

Purchased for 5+ miles walks. Typically wear Vivos for walks/everyday/gym but need something for longer distance & paved roads. Pro: Wide toe box. Feel like pillows on my feet (maybe a con!) Con: Laces too short, not flexible, maybe too much support. Overall - I like them and am trying something new.

Nice ride, comfortable, perfect for long & easy runs, and good enough for speed (a bit on the heavy side). My only gripe is the lacing. Had to skip the 2nd lace to make it not rub the wrong way.

I love my Escalantes, but THE LACES ARE TOO SHORT (size 11). I don't know how many reviews Altra needs that state this, but apparently it's more than have already been written. With each pair I buy, I also have to buy laces. I was hoping that the new purple shoe (cuter in person than online, BTW) would have longer laces but, nope! Still way too short for a heel lock lace, or even for someone with a wide foot and high arch. And it's extra disappointing because the laces that come with the shoe are super cute and I can't find an exact match.

I love these shoes. I have knee issues that were aggravated by chunky cushiony shoes, so I decided to try the Escalantes because I already had Altra trail runners. These helped me run much faster and feel way more comfortable. I wear these for daily training and road races. My only complaint is, as others have said, the top part of the shoe rubs against the top of my foot in an uncomfy way.

The Escalante 3 is my first experience with Altras. I have about 134 miles on them so far and I really like them. I liked the first pair so much that I ordered another color to switch off. The only thing I would recommend is the shoe laces be longer. The laces on both paid are barely long enough to tie.

VERY comfortable shoe. Love that I can put my orthotics in them. **Really wish the laces were longer.** Nice quality laces that stay done up, just need to be longer!

This shoe is very soft and comfortable. It has a large toe box, so none of my toes are cramped. It does not have the support of a standard sneaker but feels a lot better. It is a zero drop shoe, so the fit is very natural. I am thrilled to find some comfortable shoes, and they are cute too! I have a very narrow foot but can wear this Altra original foot bed.
I'd also recommend:

I love my shoes, but I really wish the laces were longer, I can barely tie mine and forget double knotting. I wear orthotics and a brace. If nothing please sell longer ones to match the shoes.

I did not even try these on because they are not dusty pink as described and as shown. The color is coral, shrimp, basically very orangish none of which appeals to me, ugh!

Started with the 2, then 2.5, now the 3. My body loves me for finding altras, my budget hates that they only last 6 months and now the mesh in the top of the toe box just wears out at about 3 months. I have never had this problem before, and now 2 pairs of the 3s have torn. Please reinforce this area better. Also, the black and dark grey appear dark navy instead.

Usually an 8.5, the 8 fit better for these. First Escalante but I have had 3 pairs of lone peaks for trails. These were recommended as most similar to lone peaks for roads. Very comfortable, love the color wave of the white. Good for walks and runs. My daily runner. Love that they aren't bulky or heavy.

Not enough arch support for me and it was tight across the instep and over my bunion. I will have to return.

I bought a 10.5 in the white set. I usually wear a 10 but made the switch to more natural shaped shoes my feet have spread so I went up a size. My feet are naturally wider than most. I put these on and it was weirdly amazing. There was some space in the toe area but in a good way. My toes had space to grip and wiggle around which was a cool experience since I don't get that a lot in close toe shoes. The color was creamier than I expected but I think it was the like plastic layering in the outside not the actual fabric. It was a good look either way. The laces were cool but I had to retie them a lot until I started double knotting them. I'd like to not have to do that but it beats having to retie them frequently. Also, the mint toes piece next to the red toe piece at the very top started to come off, first on the left side then the right, super glue fixed it. This happened after months of continuous wear so I think that definitely played a part. I don't think there was too much padding on the base. There is enough cushion to not feel the hard concrete ground I usually walk on but not too much that I feel unstable when I walk/jog. I have a heavy step so this was really important as I've tried other minimalistic, naturally shaped shoes and experienced pain in my heel from how thin the base was but these were perfect for me.

I wore the 1.5s for years which I loved. I have wide, flat feet, and I like the 3s because they have a good amount of cushion next to no arch support which is good but seem bulky and heavy which I don't like. I do miss the minimalistic feel of the 1.5s because I didn't even notice they were on my feet, but these just feel very large and clonky. They are still comfortable though and feel sturdy and like they can take a beating, as I'm on my feet all day and used the Altra 1.5s to hike, run, and walk all day at least 3 miles so they would tear up in a matter of months. I'll see how these go because no brand is comparable for flat feet to Altra, but please bring back the minimalistic feel of the 1.5s. I also feel like these shoes look good but could look better, as I think as women we want our shoes to look smaller and more light and feminine. I also don't like that I seem much taller in these shoes. The largeness of the shoes just feels quite masculine to me, but that's just personal opinion. Overall I would say that even though they aren't anywhere close to the 1.5s, the 3s are still a decent shoe.

Only one run so far but the ride feels good. Only complaint is the color is off. I couldn't tell until I got into the bright gym and had already worn them so now I can't return them. The black/gray is more like an inky navy with a light pink interior. Also that brown bumper in the front looks a little weird. I'm just going to keep them and maybe order another pair of black Escalante 2.5s. I wish they made the 3s in the same deep black with the contrasting bright white. My favorite road shoe ever.

Perfect amount of support and cushion provided total comfort right out of the box with no break in period. Lightweight mesh upper is airy which is great in the summer, however on a cold windy day I could feel the wind through the mesh and my feet were a little cold. The wide toe box gives me plenty of room without being sloppy, until I get to sprinting speed and then there is a bit of sloppiness. At the same time I have to acknowledge that aesthetically it looks a little club foot. The rest of the shoe is good looking, I just don't love the wide toe box look. Because of the other benefits, it's not a deal breaker, but I may choose a different shoe depending on where I'll be that day. Overall a great comfortable lightweight running shoe.

Overall, this is a solid running shoe. The toe box is wider and perfect for my feet. My other running shoes cramp my toes and cause blisters....not the case with the Escalante 3. I would like more arch support. If you need more support like I do, I would suggest an insert.

I've worn Altras for both running and cross training for a few years now. I have always loved the wider toe box giving the shoes a more comfortable fit. The extra cushion takes a little getting used to as their previous models have been lower profile but I feel great after running. And a petty thing I know, but these shoestrings are actually pretty good! I'm so tired of cheap, thin nylon strings that barely stay tied even when double-tied. I've run a short 3-4 miles in these and not had to double-tie them. That is a big deal to me!
