I am so disappointed that Altra has moved away from the Original Footshape shoes I loved. The wide toe box was what really made them special and now the original fit is only available one one Women's low-top style. I lived in the Escalantes for years. The new version is no replacement for the worn-out shoes I loved. Wish I could give zero stars. Boo

I have been running in this shoe since the original version. They have definitely gone in the wrong direction with this shoe. I loved the originals and the 2.5's and would love to have those brought back. I hope the next version heads back in that direction. I have stocked up on 2.5's for now and crossing my fingers that the next version is better!!!

This was my favorite shoe for the past 4 years - why the changes? Please bring back the 2.5 or better yet, the very first Escalante. The 3 is not comfortable - too narrow in the middle, arch support (very annoying), sole is thicker, and colors are not as nice for women's and men's.

These shoes are the worst (for me), it's making me a worse runner and I didn't know that was even possible. The toebox feels too awkward and I feel like I'm slapping the ground with each step. My metatarsalgia is more inflamed after changing shoes from my well-worn 2.5 to the 3.
I've scoured the whole internet, but my fellow 2.5 fans have hoarded all the 2.5s left in existence. I don't blame them. I'll have to find a different show until the Escalantes come back in better form, hopefully in the not-too-distant future.

Very disappointed in the 3.0.
I've been a great fan of the Escalante shoe for the past four years, but the new 3.0 is just not the same.
The mid part of the shoe is uncomfortably tight and there is some kind of arch support that has not been present in the previous versions.
I wore the shoe for about an hour, but had to take them off because my foot was cramping. Unfortunately, I had to return them and searched on line and to purchase a pair of the 2.5's.

Not cushiony at all. Felt like cardboard. I've been wearing Escalante's for years and I was so disappointed! But! Excellent customer service while going through returns. Ty!

nothing like the prior version--the tongue is miniature, there are way too many holes for the laces and the shoe feels super heavy and bigger than the 2.5 and clunky. horrible

I loved the Escalante 1.5s, hated the 2.0s and loved the 2.5s. The 3.0s remind me a lot more of the 2.0s. They feel much stiffer and less bouncy. The 'sock feel' also meant that I could feel every fold + seam in my actual socks, which was not desirable. I'm stocking up on 2.5s and hoping they last me until something better comes along.

Ugh! We're so I start. Altra is my favorite shoes. But my last 2 pairs have been duds. This pair is heavy & awkward. And just looking at them they look clown shoe big. Having large feet is bad enough then adding a bad design just makes it worse. The insole rubs against my heel, to the point I thought I had something in my sock. And the final straw was my gait causing back pain.

Like the other reviews, I have been wearing the 2.5s for years, training high weekly mileage for ultramarathons without any discomfort or pain (wohoo!). After 4 weeks of wearing the 3s I have pain in my arches and foot tendons every time I run in them and cannot wear them for more than a 5k without sharp foot pain. I know it isn't an injury because I can wear my 2.5s the next day for a longer run with 0 issues and have had 0 training injuries in the last 2+ years.
I feel like the 3s aren't actually an Escalante, they should be sold as some other model because they are an entirely different fit and feel than the 1.5, 2, or 2.5 models. The 3s feel more cushiony like they are trying to be a Hoka, whereas the big appeal to escalantes for me has always been the zero drop and the ability to feel the road/ground underneath my feet. I will probably be switching to Topos after years of wearing Altras, which makes me sad because overall the look and colors of the 3s are quite cute. But I need to be pain free to keep up my high mileage.

WHY do shoe companies insist on "improving" when something is already perfect? The Escalante *was* my favorite shoe until they had to go and "improve" it. I keep reading they made it more of a sock-like fit but I find it waaayyyy too bulky, less sock-like, and more like a regular 'Ole bulky sloppy trainer. I have to tie my laces tighter to get it to fit right, which flares up my extensor tendonitis in my right foot. So now these are unbearable to me. They feel so heavy too; NOTHING like an Escalante. I'm glad I still have 2 pairs of the 2.5's that I will now wear until they are worn down to oblivion because they are the perfect shoe as far as I'm concerned. These 3's will collect dust or be donated. Bummed.
