While the shoe feels slightly too big while running, the shoe itself is extremely comfortablelike running on clouds. Shoes Is stylish, laces stay while running which is important. Would try again in a smaller size!

I have the Escalante 2.5 model and this updated version is a lot more narrow at the mid foot. I do have flat feet and my arches spill well over the where the shape of the soles end. The toe box is still nice and wide though.
I searched Altra’s website and found this: “The change between these two models is that the Escalante 2.5 came in the Original Footshape Fit and the Escalante 3 comes in the Standard Footshape Fit which is slightly narrow compared to the Original Footshape Fit.”
Bummer.

Love the shoe. I am 75 years old, have had hips and knee replacement and rheumatoid arthritis-obviously I'm not a runner. But now I can stand and walk without pain. I have two pair of Escalante 3 and the Paradigm 6. What works for me is the zero drop.

I had to buy these because I couldn't resist the pattern. I previously owned the Escalante 1.5. This version definitely feels firmer and narrower through the midfoot. I hate that the tongue starts above the bottom two lace eyelets. This gives you no ability to loosen the shoe where the two bottom eyelets sit over the lower metatarsalsI definitely feel pressure there from the shoe. I've never felt this in any other Altra shoeand I've owned 6 different models and over 15 pairs. The padded tongue does feel good and stays in place on me. I also like the more stable feel of this shoe. Not as much sliding if my foot side-to-side. It locks my foot in better than previous versions. The top margin of the heel counter tab is fairly rigid, but it hasn't given me any issues yet. Overall, I really like this shoe. If only the tongue extended down to the lower two eyeletsthen I'd LOVE the shoe. I also would have loved the mid sole to be black. That would have been such a cool aesthetic!

I wanted so badly to love these- especially with the toe box being the anatomically correct shape. However, I have a wide foot and my mid sole/top of foot did not have enough room. Loosening the laces helped a bit, but then I barely had enough lace to tie the shoe! I think this would be a great brand for someone who wants a natural toe box and has an "average" width shoe, but I was very disappointed in the lack of wide width offerings overall... ultimately, I returned these.

The shoe is way too narrow and my feet hang off. Please bring back the original foot shape in wide for more shoes. Not the shoe for me. I can't speak to its comfort during an actual run.

I love the fit of this shoe so much- it's the most comfortable I've ever found. But the top of the shoe got holes within just a few months which was incredibly disappointing.

I love the look and feel of these shoes, but the laces are too short. I have very high arches and because the laces make me have to tie my shoes tighter than typical my toes go numb and my feel ache if I wear them too long.

I've been a big fan of the escalante, but this version has an uncomfortable (to me, maybe fine for people with a high arch) arch support that the last versions didn't, and after a handful of runs, this kickstarted plantar fasciitis for me. I still love the racers, but these are uncomfortable even wearing around town for me unfortunately. I loved Altra for the zero drop and minimal shoe that made them unique, but I hope they don't start steering away from it.

After using the Altra Best Shoes Finder on their website, it recommended these and the Torin 5 Luxe. The shoe laces are too short and a struggle. I don't care for the bright white soles and the bright white shoe laces with peachy colored specks. Comfort over fashion, comfort over fashion. I ordered a 9.5; I usually order a 9 wide in Hokas and Brooks. Ordering a half size up like others recommend is wise. I wanted to try zero drop shoes. My feet feel best in Birks and Chacos. These are not cushy shoes, they are, as the Altra site states "low cushion for connection to the ground and instant feedback". The don't make these in a wide. I am struggling with them; I thought they were wide enough as they have the wide toe box. Maybe I need a little more cushion in the ball of the foot. I'm not convinced this is the right model for me and not sure I can exchange them.
I'd also recommend:

I really wanted to love these sneakers. They look great, and feel great, but unfortunately having planters fasciitis I need something with better arch support. Sadly returning.

I was so pumped to have these shoes! I hadn't found sneakers with a natural toe box, and was happy to find Altra. I needed shoes for work as a fitness coach, that could also work for some running. These checked those boxes!
They felt pretty good when I put them on! I have lone peaks, which have a pretty wide toe box, so these were comfortably snug. It was a very smooth transition to this sneaker and I never had any discomfort breaking them in.
Now, this is where I get disappointed. I haven't even had these a year and the fabric on my pinky toe side is ripping. The sole of the ball of my foot is worn almost all the way down. There are holes appearing at the bottom. Now, I know sneakers are limited to so much mileage, but I'm not doing anything strenuous in them. I've actually only run in them a handful of times. Most of my time spent in these is walking on the sidewalk or around our gym. I have separate shoes I work out it, so these are spared.
I'm pretty disappointed as I've never had any sneakers last this short. I have to deliberate if I buy these again, and the only reason would be because of the toe box and initial comfort. I may have to research other brands. Not that price is an issue, but spending this money on a shoe that has barely lasted 10 months is disheartening.

These are okay. I loved the Kanyenta with the sockliner and wide toe box as well as the flexible uppers as well as the sufficient shoelaces. Nothing can beat the Kanyenta for me. The uppers in this Escalante are stiff and the shoelaces way too short, cannot even try them outside until I get a pair of decent shoelaces. Got the navy, love the color.

Never have I worn a shoe (flip flops aside) that becomes so wet. It's winter time in the PNW, so moisture is to be expected, but an obscene amount gets in the shoe. Should've purchased Lone Peak.

The previous Escalante version design better. Why to change things that have been a success? Better to keep classic for good and why not wider; the original foot shape? Thank you.

I stand and walk all day long on hard surface. I love that this shoe cushioned very well.
Also loved the fabric and easy clean aspect of material.
I just had a hard time finding my size and finally after 3 tries- I think I got it.

Just didn't like the way the shoe looked at all. The toe box was huge and sure to create blisters, from sliding around.

Bring back the 2.5!!! I feel like I am walking/running on a marshmallow and can't feel the ground beneath me. It's so squishy that the majority of my weight shifts & rocks onto my heels and creates pain. These feel like new balance fresh foam shoes which I hate!

I love the 2.5...I have 3 pairs and it's disappointing they don't make them like they once were.the new ones kinda feel too cushion-ey and the upper is too thick.they should've kept them the same and not to mention the colors are disappointing as well.i wish this company had customization .I would recommend if you're looking for a cushion shoe.

The shoe felt wider than my other Altras (my foot is narrow)and the upper fabric is very soft-- has no support. I need suppport in the arch and sides for pronation and these just did not have enough support on the sides. If you like a very soft upper all the way around you will like these.

I love the comfort of this shoe and for me it feels better with the insole removed. However, the mesh material on top is so thin it quickly became worn out, with a hole above my big toe. So sad because I really love them, but for the cost they should last more than 6 months.

The shoe is quite attractive for an athletic shoe however the fabric seams along upper part is very rough and doesn’t lay down flat. I would not be able to tolerate wearing them.

This version has significant changes over the 2.5 version, which I don't like. The shoe is stiffer. The toe box feels smaller and more rigid. I don't like the change in cushioning.

For this edition of Escalante, Altra added ribbing at the base of the laces. Unfortunately this makes the shoe tighter than it should be and there’s nothing you can do about it. I have low volume feet and my feet felt squished I sent them back.
