Whew! I had to wait a year for the unfortunate Torin 5 to be out and cross my fingers the Torin 6 was fixed. In that year I tried other brands/models and nothing was quite like the history I had with the earlier Torins... and now it can continue with the best version yet IMO. Thanks for turning it around and making my feet happy again! Don't let the Torin 5 dissuade you from trying this version. Since the Altra genie granted this wish, maybe for my other two I can also get The One back and a max cushion road style like the Olympus is for me on the trails ;P

I just picked up a new pair of Torin 6's from my local running shop, and man, was I in for a pleasant surprise! I had a pair of Torin 5s, which ran a bit short, and the tongue was a bit rigid. But I was informed by my running shop that the Torin 6's upper material is different and the tongue is much softer, and they were right! The upper is softer and seems to be fitting truer to size, and I have done about 15 miles and no issues with the tongue. Super happy with this updated version, and I am planning on getting another pair to keep in the rotation.

Alright, so Altra sent me a pair of these. Wow, would I pay for another at full price and above. Besides the feeling of being able to reach my potential as a runner, and having the confidence that these shoes will support me if I decide to push my limits, they are extremely comfortable. The great things about the old model, the Torin 5's, have been kept and the problems have been addressed and fixed. - The tongue issue from the Torin 5's has been fixed. The new tongue's lip is exceptionally soft and there has been some padding added for extra comfort. - The heel cup contouring has been changed to a more slim fit that greatly reduces the amount of heel slippage. I didn't think I would like the pull-tab heel but I will be honest I haven't noticed it one bit. - The only fault I can find is that the mesh upper is slightly less breathable. However, being a slightly tighter weave it looks like it will be more durable. So a bit of a give and take I suppose. Overall I am very much pleased with these Torin 6's. I am looking forward to putting in some big (or little) miles in them! (The sizing is consistent with the Torin 5's, though I did have to size up a half from the Torin Plush 4.5 I was a 10 in the 5's as well as the 6's and I was a 9.5 in the 4.5 plush)

First time using an Altra, and I will never go back to a shoe that has heel to toe drop. I love the Cushion and and the balanced shoe design to help me maintain my running form. Well done Altra team

I have run in every Torin to date - only one I thought was a bad design (Torin 4) and my biggest issue with 5 (the tongue could cut into my skin on a long run) has been fixed with 6. I have had a number of runs and did a half this AM. The new design around the ankle and tongue are great. The sole is a bit firmer than I would like, I had the "plush" it was too soft and this fills stiffer than 5. Either way still my favorite shoe.

If your are looking for a slightly firm ride with slight stability. This is your shoe! I found it to be a half size too big. I liked the space so I just kept my size even with the extra length. The grip is great in the shoe! Definitely one that would last 600 miles. Solid daily trainer!

Just put 5 miles on new Torin 6 and I think I found my perfect shoe. I've been a fan of the Torin (4.5 and even 5) despite their shortcomings as they accommodate both feet quite well (I have wider feet with different foot volumes). Despite the issues I was going to stock up on 5s just in case since they mostly worked for me - but glad I didn't. Overall feels a bit more full and secure throughout than the 5 without overdoing it. Updated lacing on the 6 (see photo) runs farther down the shoe than the 5 which I thought might dig in at the bend but did not notice any issue at all. They fixed the tongue as far as I'm concerned too. Upper seems a bit thicker but still seemed to breathe fine. In the end I typically am aware of at least one thing bothering me on any given run from my shoes but realized when I got home I didn't think twice about the shoes and was totally focused on other things throughout. Will keep at it and hope it wasn't a fluke!

Likes: fit, color, wide toe box, zero drop, adequate cushion, stability; runners loop option. Dislikes: 1) tread started peeling off after only a few weeks of treadmill jogging and walking on linoleum or hardwood floors. 2) Zero drop shoes are my favorite, but this one caused me some serious heel pain followed by achilles tendinitis after some uphill treadmill running. Probably not specific to this shoe, but thought I'd mention it.

I started to try other shoes but can back to Altra because my feet were hurting. I have bone the sticks up a little on the top of my left foot. I got the Torin as a comfy trainer. After 100 miles my feet are feeling fine. Highly recommend if you like the zero drop and lots of toe spread space.

They fit nicely. Came quickly, in about 3-4 days from ordering. Brand new - so definitely not a return item. I purchased on sale for $65, then the same shoe went on sale for about $40, so maybe Zappos will refund the difference? Overall good product and experience.

Ended up purchasing 2 pairs of the 6's, during Altra's Labor Day sale. All of my Altras are size 10 (Lone Peak 4.5/6, Torin 4.5 plush, escalante 2.5) so I bought a size 10 and they fit great. Now the Torin 6's are a different story, not only do they feel a 1/2 size smaller, but definitely narrower in the mid foot. I had a pair of Altra Outroads. I had to return them because they felt a full size smaller. Wish Altra would make a custom shop where one can order older models. Anyways just order a 1/2 size up. Still going to use the 6's though I'll just have to try them on at an actual store before ordering online.

The first Torins (up until the 3s) used to be awesome shoes. They actually helped me transition into forefoot running. The zero drop made it more natural to land on the forefoot, the wide forefoot made you feel more stable when you did so, and the excellent cushioning helped lessen the chances of getting plantar fasciitis (something that I suffered when I tried barefoot running with Vibrams). However, the Torin 4.5 was so narrow that I wore holes through the upper where my pinky toes constantly hit because there was not enough room to splay my toes. I thought that I was done with Altra, but then I saw that the Torin 6 came in Men's Wide and I decided to give them a try. These are just as good as the original Torins, wide in the forefoot like they're supposed to be. I'm giving the shoe 3 stars because I wish that the company would cater more towards their original loyal customers...either make the Regulars wider like they did before, or at least offer the Wides in all available colors.

This is my 3rd pair of Torins. The Torin 6 is a great shoe because it's comfortable, middle-of-the-road cushion, and just wide enough for my feet. I also love the new back of the shoe design that prevents the heel from collapsing when putting it on. However, the tongue rolls on the sides when you insert your foot which is hard to unroll after your foot is inside the shoe. The tongue also slides over to the side when running. I find this aggravating.

I've been a fan of the Torin series since day one. Some revisions were better than others. That being said, I prefer this version to the previous. I'm sure many people have complained about it, and I do not disagree the slightest bit, is that they should have listened to customers about the tongue situation. I thought it was just a myth, but it is true and that tongue does cut into the top of the ankle. And true to the point where I modified my shoes with scissors every time. I still have my Torin 4, with the perfectly un-harming tongue, which they should have used as a perfectly good working example. Please, Altra, listen to the customers and do not bring this to the Torin 7!!!! I still enjoy the feel of the shoe and it still works like a champ on long runs or half marathons. In fact, I just used mine (with the modified tongue) to complete and power through the Buffalo Marathon in rough conditions. No blistering (like my Clifton 8s sometimes do on really long runs), no pains; legs and feet feeling great today. That makes it 97 miles and they are holding up like champs. To me, the shoe still has that cozy toe space and when place next to my old Torin 4s I cannot see any difference. Take my review with a grain of salt based on my experience with this shoe series. I enjoy them enough to buy them again even if it means having to modify the tongue. The shoe tongue prevents me from giving it five stars. By the way, Altra, please fix that shoe tongue!

I'm writing this with ~100 miles and 30 hours of HIIT workouts on these shoes. Love the sole feel, its on par with the older Torins I originally fell in love with. Feels responsive enough for speed sessions but has enough cushion for long runs. Very breathable upper. Toebox isn't quite as wide as older Altras, but still plenty wide enough for my particular feet. The upper is very thin and almost transparent, but hasn't shown any real signs of wear yet which is promising. Compared to my Torin 4.5s its like comparing a knitted sweater to a compression shirt. I do not have any lace bite issues as others have noted BUT I have noticed that the tongues tend to shift to the outside of my foot during wear. It doesn't cause any discomfort but I do wonder if it will contribute to material failure as time goes on since it gets a little bunched up. Also a huge fan of the white upper/green midsole colorway. Overall I'm satisfied with the shoe and would be willing to buy a second pair when these wear out. I have not had some of the issues other reviewers noted. My only concern will be longevity with the upper being so thin, I wonder how well it will hold up as time goes on.

I have 150 outdoor road miles in a pair of Torin 6 and honestly feel great running for the first time since the Torin 4 model. I don't see any issues with premature wear mentioned by others.

I have been wearing the Torin for a log time, when they were original fit they were perfect sizing. Now I need to wear the Wide, another color would be great as all I can by is a single shoe. Besides that the tongue can be improved not sure why that is so hard given previous complaints. Otherwise I love the shoe and cross my fingers for more wide options.

After breaking in, they feel great. Nice looking shoes. The tongue needs to be redesigned: flimsy and it can cut into the front of your ankle. That's the only complaint though. I've been wearing torins for years and these suit me just fine.

Nice cushion, since I wear a plate carrier vest and I'm also a heel striker. But the tongues slip to the outer sides of the shoes. Altra designers: gusset or add eyelet loops like Topo.

Very comfortable running shoe but the tongue rubs where the top of my foot meets my ankle. I've found a number of their newer shoes have 'hot spots' which, over miles, can be quite the irritant.

Altra are described as having a (very) wide toe box, but these particular shoes allowed my toes to rub against the inside of the shoe and the material across the toe was taught, not allowing room to accommodate my hammertoes.

The wide size model is true and comfortable. Wish there were more color options for the wide size. The shoe tongue has improved from the Torin 5, but it's still stiff and I have to adjust it towards the side so it doesn't irritate the front of my ankle. I absolutely loved the Torin 4.5 plush and prefer that style Torin to this point.
