I normally run in the Clifton 8 but decided to give the Mach 5 a try and they have just the right amount of softer cushion with a more responsive ride than the Cliftons. One small complaint and only reason for not giving these 5 stars, is that the tongue is thin and flat with no padding and slides down when running because there's no slot on the tongue to run the laces through to keep it in place. Otherwise a great shoe with a light and fast feel.

The Mach 5 has a great ride with lots of energy return. The ride may override some faults. I only have 9 running miles on the shoes and they are already showing significant wear on the outsole. (Not a heavy foot striker) Also, the fit is not ideal for my feet. I have narrow feet according to digital foot scan and material bunches up a bit when laces are tightened, yet I feel some rubbing on the little toes.

I had originally purchase a pair of Clifton 7's and love the fit and look. Unfortunately, the bottom of the show came apart but Hoka's Customer Service were excellent and got me into a pair of Mach 5's. Same great fit and feel. Looking forward to putting them to the test. I am sure they will do great just like Hoka's Team. Thanks!

I love these shoes and they are super comfy and have a good bit of bounce considering. I love these shoes as a daily trainer, however, the lack of an out sole was a problem for me. I maintain around 25 or so miles a week and these shoes lasted me around 200 miles before breaking down in the forefoot area. Granted, I weigh in around 210lbs so these shoes may fair far better for a lighter run. Don't get me wrong, these are great but the breakdown of the sole is problematic if your not a lighter weight runner.

The cushion of the shoe is on par with other brands I've tried, but the width is too wide for a supposed Regular size. Also, I notice rather large pieces of sole are shaved off and litter the floor under my treadmill after each run.

Similar to the Mach 4 with asymmetry tongue which I am not a fun of. When running is not an issue at all but when wearing it can be annoying at times. Overall a great shoe with similar DNA to precious version.

As a triathlete, I run variety of distances during the week and at different times during the trading cycle. Sometimes it's a stand alone 3-6 miler, or 3-6+ right off the bike, or simply a long run day 10-12 miles. Like many athletes, once you find gear that works and you tend to stick with it. For me, I tend like flat (not minimalist) trainers without a lot of cushion and action going on under my foot, so I've been using a low profile shoe for quite some time, and no issues or injuries. However, as a 6'0" - 190 lbs. guy, I just kept thinking "I may need a little more shoe under me, especially for the longer runs." I tried several brands, some of which I've used in the past with some success, and also tried the Hoka Mach 5. Many of these brands, including Hoka have big/thick soles a "rocker" effect. I felt like I was falling forward over the toes of the shoes. Perhaps that's the idea, and I simply don't get it, but it was an awkward feeling for me. The Mach 5 has a larger (and squishier) sole/feel than I am used too, but not the "rocker" feeling. So, I decided to give them a try. And rather than a couple of runs on the treadmill, I decided to commit and just started running outside with them. (No return). I must say that after a few runs I got used to feel and now I really enjoy the shoes/ride very much. I've raced triathlon in them recently, and have another IM 70.3 coming up in September, and I'm looking forward wearing my new Mach 5's for the 13.1 run. Thanks Hoka for producing this product, and making it easy to access them. Cheers!

Love the Hokas weight and design. I'd really like to see Hoka do some shoes that have more reasonable sole thickness. When you have big, wide feet like I do, they get to look a little ridiculous. They feel a bit narrow too. Had to return mine bc they literally looked like I was running on cinderblocks (got the grey version). And had to order the double wide just to get a good fit. Would love to see a thinner sole road shoe offered in wide/double wide

The shoe is wonderful and has great energy return. I live in Florida and appreciate how breathable it is during the summer. The toe box might be have slightly wider but I've loved the overall feel of the shoe. My one critique that is still up for debate would be the wear and tear of sole. After 7 runs at 4miles on average there is already signs of a shoe that might not have much longevity.

Just got my first pair of Mach 5's (my first pair of Mach's in general) and I absolutely love the feel and springiness of the ride! only complaint is the stitching isnt great, I looked over 2 pairs of shoes at a store and both had loose or frayed threads, so I ordered a pair instead and it still had some look thread, but its minor, and not going to cause the shoe to explode or anything.

I really enjoy this shoe and run anywhere from 6-13 miles a day and went with the White/Scuba Blue colorway as I find the colors fun and enjoyable and something other than black. However, they do not come in the wide EE sole so I unfortunately have had a blister within a blister within a blister on the inside of one foot and another on my side of my big toe and tip of my first index toe on the other. Really wish I had just gone with the wide sole and went with function over fashion. Just a shame Hoka doesn't provide all colorways in both. Shoes feel great cushion wise when running.

finally, wide width available, wish they offer more color choices. for outsole, still prefer the Mach 3. Hoka should remove the extended heel length in all their shoes, they tend to rub/kick at each other wh

I was wearing the older style Bonzi 7 but I could find it in my size anymore. I still like the old style in solid black. Not a big fan of all the colors.

I have a couple runs on these now and have a good impression of their feel. I run in Cliftons normally. I purchased these thinking they would be a slightly less bulky version of the Clifton. They are not really that, but rather more of a race shoe. When I first put them on and walked around, they felt very cushioned. When running in them, however, they are firmer than the Clifton. I would say about 70% cushion between a tradition running shoe and the Clifton. I'm fine with that, as I like to switch to a race shoe for something different on short runs. However, I will continue to do my normal training in the Cliftons. One word of caution is the tongue. The Clifton has a traditionally shorter/material style tongue. The Mach 5 has a more rubberish/thin tongue that rides higher on the ankle. I notice a slight pressure on the front of my ankle when running. It's not a problem for me, as I wear running sockets that ride a little higher on the front of my ankle. However, I tried and will not wear "not show" socks with them. I have past experience with similar type tongues in other running shoes. No matter how soft they try and make this style tongue, it still makes direct contact with ankle above the sock and creates friction that leads to rubbing/discomfort. These felt that way with no show socks. I tried posting pictures, but they would not load.

The fit and size was ok. I didn't like the fact that there is no loop on the tounge for the shoe strings to hold it in place.
I'd also recommend:

These just don't seem to have great stability or durability. Definitely reccomend then solely as speed shoes. Not great daily trainers.

You expect a high quality shoe not to get black dye on your foot and socks! I have other brands and these are one of the best at supporting my flat feet. Not sure if I would purchase again because the quality seems to be too low for the price.

Very soft, very cushioned, no cushioning on tongue. I wear an 11 for running and 10 1/2 otherwise. The 11 seemed snug

Shoes are very comfortable in general. However the tongue is very thin and not restrained in any manner (such as looping a lace through etc.) and therefore has a tendency to fold up into the toe of the shoes when putting them on unless care is taken.

I want to say I love them, but I bought men size 8.5 and sized down from the normal woman's size as I was told to do. They aren't as comfy and I feel run much more narrow. My feet were a mess after a 5 mile run. I am hoping to return and size up another size to see if it changes anything, because the women's Mach 5 are the bomb

Everything is great about this shoe except the tongue. The tongue does not stay in place, it constantly slides down my foot and can make the shoe uncomfortable while running. I wish they would stayed with a similar style tongue as the Mach 4.
