Tongue is a little short and I personally need a little more cushion. But these guys get you going pretty fast and for the most part are outstanding shoes. Very well done by Hoka team.

I made the move from ASICS to HOKA after reading countless reviews. I absolutely love how they feel when I run. There's not breaking in required I was able to take them from the box to the road. The first time I ran in them my miles were almost a minute faster. Love these shoes!

I bought the Mach 5 pair because of the reviews on Believeintherun. I didn't love the Mach 4 because they felt slow for me. I loved the Rincon 3 and bought 7 pairs because I run every day. The Rincon 3 was my favorite running shoe ever recovering from long term plantar fasciitis. Then I ran in the Mach 5 and by the 2nd run (10 or 11 now) I loved them. I run faster in them than anything else and great energy for longer runs. Just bought another 2 pairs for longevity. Best running shoes for me personally.

I'm 44 years old, very new to running, and this shoe literally knocked 1:30 off my mile time! From the first step, I was super impressed. Felt good and absolutely zero "break-in" time needed. You could run a marathon with these new out of the box. This is the most comfortable shoe I've ever owned. Makes my Hoka Bondis feel like high heels.

I'm loving the new upper and ProFly+ midsole (appreciate the way it's injected into the mid foot for slightly more cushion and pop on the transition) while appreciating the new styling. My previous Machs went to 200+ miles and I can't wait for these next 200 miles in these. Exposed outsole (for me at least) is not a problem in the slightest and don't find it too much as a negative but worth noting regardless.

I've owned over 8 pairs of Hoka. Mach 5 has a bit more room in the toe box vs. Mach 4. I usually wear wide (I own Clifton 8 wide and Rincon wide) but don't need wide for Mach 5. This is great since it give me more color options. I like them better than all other Hoka's I own.

I loved the Mach 4 and was excited to see how the Mach 5 was improved. It is a very different shoe, with a softer ride, but still with a great snap when picking up the pace is required. There is something to the "+" in ProFly+ -- it is definitely softer than ProFly and has better responsiveness. The tongue has padding in the right places. I don't find the laces too long and I do not experience the upper cinching too close on the top of my foot. I'm not a wide, but for an average width foot, I have no issues with lacing and comfort. My only concern is the rubberized EVA. My Mach 4s have ~270 miles on them and there is no tread left on the shoe. They still work find on pavement and crushed limestone trail, but I don't wear them when conditions are wet. Given the Mach 5s have a similar rubberized EVA, I'm not sure I'll get much more than 250 miles before I relegate them to dry pavement days. This is why I bought two pair -- rotate them so I did not feel like I was burning through one pair too quick. Overall, I love this shoe and it is my favorite daily trainer, especially on days when I have faster paces to hit.

In the short time I have been running in this shoe (close the 50 miles now), it has really done wonders for me. As someone that lives with muscular dystrophy, I have many challenges and obstacles when it comes to running. I have been looking for a lightweight, stable yet bouncy, energetic-feeling shoe for a long time now, and I am so glad that I found the Mach 5. I don't have a lot of leg muscle, so the weight of the shoe helps tremendously in keeping me from tiring quickly. The energy return of the midsole provides a nice little boost that makes it a little easier to turn my legs over and run longer. And the wider base helps keep me stable as I tire at the end of a run. I know my situation is different to most, so I am not sure how helpful this review may be, but if you are looking for a lightweight shoe with an energetic feeling to help you log those miles when running is hard, this is it.

The Hoka Mach 5 is exactly what I hoped it would be: light, snappy, bouncy, and comfortable - this shoe is fun to run in. The upper feels dialed-in. Like last year's Mach 4, it's easy to get a great lockdown. The tongue is minimalist. The ride feels very different from other Hokas. The Pro Fly + foam provides a pillowy soft "squish" with nice, energetic bounce. I imagine this would be how the New Balance RC Elite v2 would feel without a carbon plate. Other runners have said this reminds them of a more supportive Rebel v2 and that seems accurate. The outsole is identical to last year's model. I burned through 2 pairs of Mach 4s and the outsoles held up fine. I foresee the same with this model. After a few days with this shoe I think it would be a great choice for daily training, tempo days, long runs, and even a race day shoe for those who don't need a carbon plate. Bottom line: I really enjoy this ride and this is easily one of the best shoes of the year.

I used to be a big fan of the Nike Pegasus Turbo 2. It was light, cushioned, and I thought had pretty good energy return. I was sad when it was discontinued and I hadn't found a replacement until now! Hoka, I'm a convert! When everyone else is making heavier and heavier shoes, you guys kept them light and found an amazing balance with the foams. They feel super soft but also have a good energy return. The upper locks down well and I forget the shoe is on my foot with the shape and width. So good! I did have to size down a half size compared to my normal 9.5.

Some good changes for the 5. Most notably the midsole is more bouncy and softer. The fit seems good as well, with the tongue being much different than the 4. Thinner and I believe partially gusseted. Only been on a couple runs, but so far really like this. In my size 12 weighs in a little over 9 ounces which is solid. Upper is breathable and the 5 seems a little more streamlined than the 4. Overall, I am digging this one.

Forrest Gump would still be running across country today if he had purchased a pair of these. Usain Bolt uses the Mach 5 as a pillow. Seriously, there is no need to look anywhere else for a better running shoe. If you liked the Mach 4 you will love the Mach 5.

I've tried several name brand shoes to wear to work and they were comfortable for the 1st couple of days but with Hoka I've been able to wear without any issues for a week. It would be safe to say that Hokas are my go to for comfort while I work.
