I have been wearing the various versions of L.L.Bean flannel nightgowns for decades. On this current version, however, the fit is off. The shoulders are narrow and the body is very wide. Indeed, for an item in which bagginess is a desirable trait (in my opinion), it is really too wide to be comfortable. On the plus side, however, the nightgown I received had its plaid matched on the side seams, which was a problem with the last plaid one I purchased.

This is a beautiful LONG gown. Because I am 5'2" I had to return it or risk stepping on it and falling. I would have been better served to know the length rather than the write up saying "ankle length". Now I have to return it at a cost to me or pay to have it shortened. It will cost less to return so that is what I am doing.

I was so looking forward to wearing this cozy nightgown all winter long and absolutely loved the fabric and colors (and pockets), but when I tried it on, it was ginormous! I am a true medium and this nightgown fit like an XXL! My 6'2'', 210lb husband could have easily worn it, with room to spare! If it had just been a tad big (or fit more like a Large) then I would have just kept it anyway, but this was seriously like 2-3 sizes too big and I was swimming in it. I would have reordered it in an XS (I'm afraid Small still would have been huge!), but I'm worried about it being too small in the bust/shoulders and don't want to keep paying for shipping if it doesn't fit. I'm really sad it didn't work out!

I read many of the reviews for this and still decided to try. Because so many went on about how big this nightgown ran, I ordered a large. I usually buy a large in Lanz flannel nightgowns because I don't want to have anything binding or tight when I sleep. So this nightgown is extremely voluminous from the chest down. I don't really mind that and I love the pockets. My issue is that I have broad shoulders and so this was just tight enough that I could not comfortably sleep in it. I'm afraid that if I were to order an XL there would be so much extra material in the tent that is the bottom of this nightgown, that I would get all wound up in that. So, it is both too small and too big. It would be fine to wear around the house but I wanted one for sleeping. I might have tried an XL if free returns were offered, but I wasn't so taken with this that it was worth another $6.50 gamble to try it again. I'll just stick to the Lanz.

On the good side the fit is true to size and are comfortable. The bad side is they pile terribly. I would not purchase again.

The nightgown is beautiful and made of a nice, soft flannel fabric, however the sleeves were too long and the body of the gown was too generously cut.

I really love the fit with the neat little tucks in the back and the POCKETS but the fabric...feels more fuzzy - like a fleece - than the smooth, soft flannel of my other LL Bean nightgowns and robes. It's probably just my imagination, but the finish of the fabric makes it feel like a synthetic instead of cotton. I know it's cotton...it just doesn't feel like it. I'm not sure I'd buy another as the fabric seems to attract cat fur and if I get too warm, the fuzzy finish seems to stick to me.

I have been ordering this nightgown for several years, and it was always a perfect fit. This nightgown is not the same and is much too long. It is probably 5 inches longer than all of the same size gowns I have ordered in the past. I either must exchange it or have it hemmed. If LL Bean is not consistent these days, I'll have to stop ordering. We no longer have a local store, so this is a real hassle, and to pay $60.00 and then probably another $30-40 to have it hemmed is ridiculous.

I own 15 LL Bean flannel nightgowns which I have acquired over many years! I have LOVED them. The quality of the flannel has changed since the style has gone collarless. The smooth, soft, flannel has been replaced with flannel that is more coarse...almost "itchy" and rough after several washings. I hesitate to buy more for this reason. I would rather pay more to get the wonderful, smooth, flannel that was used previously. I love the style, the colors...not the flannel that you are using!!!

I've ordered these (or the previous version of this one) for many years, and they were great. This is maybe the "remodeled" version? Anyway, the fabric is cheaper, the fit is different (bigger here, smaller there, etc.), and what's up with the pockets? I'm going to sleep in this garment; no need for extra fabric to wad up around you.

I love the color & coziness of this flannel night gown & so comfortable & love it has pockets . Only problem is it pilled when wash & sheds little flannel balls everywhere, I've washed it several times & still doing it . I probably could have got away with a petite medium & would still have plenty of room .

I was pleased with the color (scotch plaid), deep pockets and true-to-size fit. However, this product did not measure up to the previous purchases of this LLBean style nightgown that I ordered several times in past years. Primarily the fabric isn't as soft and substantial.

I've had LLBean flannel nightgowns in the past and have been reasonably happy with them. The fabric is not as thick as I would like, but it's OK. I do, however, have an issue with the sizing -- really the width. I ordered a Petite x-small. I was actually surprised that the nightgown was the right length for my height, but the width would have fit almost another person in there with me. I have never seen a nightgown in small size run so wide. My other LLBean nightgowns in the same size are nothing like this one. However, because I find it really hard to find flannel nightgowns which I like I am keeping this one and hope it will shrink a bit when I wash it. which I have yet to do.

I had to give it away....way too small in the arms. No one wants a tight nightie.

The material was ok, not cheap by any means. However, I was expecting something thicker and warmer. The pockets add a nice touch. As far as size, I've always found sleepwear to run bigger. I ordered a small and there was still plenty of room. I'm keeping it, but not over the top thrilled with the purchase.

When wearing a cozy flannel nightgown, I don't expect to look like a supermodel! But on me, this gown's shape--the narrowed pin-tucked top, which then fans out into a truly enormous bottom--made me look double my body weight. I like everything else about this nightgown: the soft flannel, the pockets, the length. Sad to send it back.

I have to say this is the correct size because the shoulders and sleeves are perfect, but he body is gigantic! It could easily be half the width and even then it would be generous. For this reason I can not recommend it. I should have returned it when I got it, but did not.

I was disappointed in this nightgown compared to other flannel nightgowns I've purchased from LL Bean. The fabric was very thin and, though, I love the pockets, it causes the nightgown to flare out. If I hadn't washed and worn it, I would return.

Ordered scotch plaid flannel nightgown, size petite XS. Gown is huge, expected big thru body, but expected sleeve length to fit. Biggest problem is sleeve length fit like a regular size rather than petite, around 2+ inches too long. Gown fabric is nice and gown is well made, just way too big for my 5ft 109 lbs. Surprised since L L Bean petite XS normally fits.

The nightgown is very comfortable but the buttonholes were too big for the buttons. I finally had to resew the buttonholes to make it stay buttoned. It appears that the stitching around the buttonholes was cut when the buttonholes were opened.

Pro: lovely soft flannel, love the color & the style Con: The side pockets are really annoyingly bulky and uncomfortable: both standing, and lying in bed. I'm having them removed. It's good to have pockets in wrappers... but sleepwear??

This nightgown is OK, but given that it's over $50, one would expect better. The fabric is thin; it's cut very big; and the plaid/pattern is dark and uninteresting. Although in the past, I'd buy an additional gown or two when the price went down, this one they can keep. I'm hoping it shrinks into oblivion.

This is not nearly as nice as other LL Bean flannel gowns. The fabric is itchy even after washing and still sheds terribly. I am very disappointed. I love the Bean Dobby nightgown and will still purchase those. But, I will not buy anymore of these.

I was disappointed when LL Bean discontinued the vintage flannel nightgown. I had probably bought 10 of them over the years. I do not really like this replacement, but I do appreciate LL Bean's great Customer Service letting me know the difference between the two versions on length (supposedly not much). I had always purchased an XL in the Vintage Gown just to get the length I wanted (I am probably 5'8" 150lbs.), but an L was all that was available in the new version when I ordered. As other reviewers have mentioned, you need to wash this gown and dry it several times before you mix it with the rest of your laundry. Even after the first wash and dry, expect lint on your body. After two washes on cold and low temp drying to avoid shrinkage, I still would not feel comfortable washing the gown with other laundry. The lint factor in the washer and dryer at least on the red version is overwhelming. Don't appreciate the pockets and the shrinkage on length seems a little more than the Vintage gown. Sorry that LL Bean discontinued a gown their customers liked and replaced it with a somewhat inferior gown.

Fabric is beautiful and washes well. Neckline is too high. You must unbutton at least one button to slip on, even then neckline is too high to be comfortable. Although fabric feels soft, it is slightly scratchy to wear. A beautiful nightgown that is only fairly comfortable.
