Unfortunately I too had to return this item. I've purchased 2 of these nightgowns in the past 4 years and loved them. The new style is lacking the collar...which keeps my neck warm...and has bulky pockets...which are uncomfortable to lie on. The label says 100% cotton, but when I tried it on, my skin itched. So I washed it. My dryer lint trap had to be emptied twice during the drying process. I tried it on again and it still itched. So I washed it again and again the dryer lint trap filled quickly with lint. And it still made my skin itch...like when I wear wool. Hopefully LL Bean will see some of these reviews and go back to the older style.

I just bought the Royal Stewart nightgown & was looking forward to wearing it for a long time since I've had 2 nightgowns in this style (the Vintage). So, as always, I washed it before wearing it. Everything in the wash, including my husbands shirts & pants came out covered with red fuzz - handfuls of fuzz! Washing machine has to be cleaned up as well as the dryer both of which are full of red fuzz. It has taken me hours, using wide packing tape to get the red fuzz off of pants, shirts, underwear, socks. We're talking fuzz covering every inch of the clothes. I will be returning the nightgown tomorrow. Can't have a nightgown that can't be washed.

the descriptions says
"100% Portuguese cotton FLANNEL.
Brushed on both sides for superior softness and warmth."
Well this is not brushed on the inside it is a cotton type of twill.
Very disappointed.....I live in Canada so we have to pay duties and taxes on top of the exchange rate, I decide on my purchases very carefully based on description of produce written. 100% cotton China
Disappointed in Ontario, Canada

After reading the reviews for this year's version of the Scotch Plaid Flannel Nightgown, my expectations were low. As it turns out, they were not low enough. The shoddy quality of the two gowns I ordered, especially the low grade of flannel fabric, came as a depressing shock. The seams have been stitched sturdily enough, but I feel sympathy for the seamstresses who faced the impossible task of trying to create a passable garment from such a poor quality fabric (thin with a low thread count and a phenomenal amount of lint) and a crude, ill-conceived pattern. I appreciate that some women like to have pockets (I do not), but the fabric is not substantial enough for the disproportionately large pockets; they hang like socks from the seams on the interior, creating lumpy wads of fabric that I would imagine could make sleeping quite uncomfortable. All the changes were clearly made to reduce manufacturing costs, a losing strategy in this case.
For anyone still considering one of these gowns, I've always worn an x-small in the previous version, and the x-small still fits in this unfortunate incarnation.
Please, LL Bean, bring back the high quality flannel fabric and design that we have known and loved.

I have bought many LL Bean Scotch plaid flannel nightgowns over the years. I buy flannel nightgowns to stay warm. For me a collar is essential for staying warm. It keeps the draft off my neck. Why on earth did you do away with it? Some of my older Scotch plaid gowns are finally getting threadbare. Sadly, after years of buying them and counting on LL Bean to have them, I will have to look for replacements elsewear. Particularly irritating is that LL Bean already offered the "vintage nightgown" with pleats & without a true collar. That style never worked for me. Unfortunately my old favorite Scotch plaid style now has the same features, or lack of features, that were undesirable to me in the other style. Oh, and for $60 for a nightgown, I expect that you won't chop off the collar, LL Bean. Really!

My daughter sent me a LL Bean Flannel nightgown as a gift because she knows I love them. When I received the newly designed nightgown, I was disappointed. The pin pleats and no collar are NO improvement to the style I loved. I don't need pockets in my nightgown. Please go back to the old style.
