I had a similar nightgown that I purchased from LL Bean about 10 years ago. I loved that nightgown but after 10 years it needed to be replaced. I purchased this nightgown online in the Black Watch color. The fabric is extremely itchy, making the nightgown difficult to wear. I am so disappointed. When I went to the store and looked at the same nightgown in similar colors it appeared that they may not be itchy. Unfortunately the store did not have those colors in my size. I was going to buy a different color on line but decided not to as I did not want to take the chance of spending another $60 just to buy another unwearable nightgown. I would definitely not recommend this nightgown, especially if you have sensitive skin like me.

Not worth $60. Material too thin and flannel is fuzzing after only 1 washing. Dislike the pockets as they are bulky and uncomfortable. What I do like: length, as it goes all the way to my ankles. Will likely return.

Dear LLBean,
I have been a happy LL Bean customer for many years, and have never had any reason to write a negative review before this. WHY, OH WHY, did you change the style of your old tried and true flannel nightgowns???? This new version with pin-tucks over the chest is not only very unflattering, it is also not warm (with no collar), and the pockets are very uncomfortable if one sleeps on one's side. Who needs pickets in a nightgown? Not me. The fabric is not the same either, it is thin. If you want to keep your customers, PLEASE bring back the old version! I'm sending these back!

This nightgown was huge. Maybe a petite XS would have fit but I didn't want to deal with shipping and reordering over and over. Outside was nice and soft inside was not a soft brushed flannel. Pockets made it even bigger in the hips.

From LL Bean I purchased flannel sheets. They are warm and wonderful. I guess I was expecting the flannel nightgown to be as nice. I was disappointed to find that it was not. The fabric is very thin and would not be warm in our Alaska winters. I returned it.

The nightgown material was very flimsy and thin. Not at all what I expect from LLBean And it was way too long.....nearly tripped on it.
Returned. Very disappointed.

Have purchased the Long tartan Long sleeve nightgown in Tall size, a few new colors each year for over 10 years and loved them. Received the new version as a gift and asked that it be returned. No more tall size, no collar, short length with calves exposed, short sleeves with half of arms exposed, terrible quality flannel, garment is skimpy and cheaply made---ridiculous re-design and definitely not worth the price. LL Bean has finally lost me as a customer--no more short or long sleeve V-neck pima cotton tees and now no tartan flannel nightgowns.

Bean, if you think this replaces the wonderful flannel nightgown I have ordered
for years, you are sadly mistaken. Who decided to take a wonderful product that everyone loved & substitute this very poor quality gown? Nothing about it
is the same, material, fit, where it was made, nothing! Why do you think we shop at bean, it's because everyone else has made the cheapest product possible & we rely on you for some quality & reliability. You failed miserably here! At least let us know when a tried & true item is going away so we can order quickly before our favorite is gone forever. You did the same thing with your wonderful cotton tees! So disappointing!!

For years my family has relied on L.L. Bean for flannel items. I wish I had heeded the warning from other reviewers who said this year's flannel gowns are poor quality. BELIEVE IT, the lint from this item will clog up the dryer and the drain. We spent an hour removing flannel lint from other items in the washer/dryer with this gown. It is also much thinner than previous years' flannel sleepwear. I am very disappointed and will not order flannel from L.L. Bean again.

Washed before wearing, the lint destroyed the 600 count Egyptian cotton sheets by shedding on them. Purchased for my 93 year young Mom who was always cold. She was so excited, & then so disappointed. I've washed them 4 times, & they still completely fill the lint cup.
Flannel is not soft, & when it chafed her underarm, she was afraid to wear them. I've never had a problem with Flannel before, the bolt was bad!

I loved the color and the fit was fine but each time I wore it I started itching no matter how many times I washed it with fragrance free detergent.
Returned.
Must be some chemicals in the fabric or dye that do not agree. I also saw that some others had the same issue.

I have owned the original design of this nightgown for 20 years. I ordered this new design, as the "old tried & true" button, pleaded yoked front with rounded collar is no longer available. This new design with pin-tucked chest and mandarin collar is too tight in the chest & the mandarin collar rubs on my throat even with two buttons fastened, and the flannel is low grade (thin). I just returned this new design, and unless the old design comes back, you lost a 20 year customer.

I purchased this style nightgown several years ago and loved it. The recently purchased nightgown is sadly disappointing. The fabric is of poor quality and lost its shape and pilled after one washing. I tried washing it twice more to render it softer, but that did not work and it continues to shed dark blue lint. I have been purchasing from LLBean for 30+ years and this gown is inconsistent with what I expect from LLBean.

I was due for a new nightgown and ordered LLBean for their quality. This flannel nightgown was not fuzzy and warm on the inside rather more like a 'tablecloth' type flannel. Wish one could be made like my previous one which was fuzzy and warm on the inside even if it costs more $ and also have more of a collar like the Pj's.

I have purchased this style flannel nightgown from LL Bean for many years but the quality changed this year since they are made in a different country. I ordered the same petite M but this year it was large and was very long with no shape, The flannel was a fuzzy poor quality that pills and leaves a trail of tiny fuzz balls on the floor and bedding even after many washings. I am VERY disappointed.

Bought this because Vintage nightgown is discontinued. It is very itchy even after washing and I keep catching pockets on door knobs. Please bring back Vintage nightgown!

I got this for Christmas, and was so happy to see that it had pockets. When I put it on later, it was itchy, and after less than an hour, it was so uncomfortable, I had to take it off, and my arms were itchy for hours longer. I have had a flannel nightgown from LLBean for about 20 years, that is still not worn out, and the fabric is still soft and strong. My husband wanted to get me another one like it, but this is unacceptable. The new fabric doesn't even feel like cotton, feels more like cheap acrylic. I tried laundering it, which reduced the itchiness slightly, but for the price, this shouldn't have to be broken in. I am returning it for full refund.

First of all, I LOVED the old flannel nightgowns. I am kicking myself for not buying more. I bought this and really liked the color options. They looked more stylish than the older ones. The problem is that the flannel is different. It's much thicker and fuzzier. It makes me itch like crazy. I can't wear it for more than a few minutes. I washed it thinking there was a chemical to make it look nice when it arrives but no, it still makes me itch after washing. I'm really sad that it didn't work for me and I wish I had more of the old ones. Please replace this fabric!!

If this is Portuguese flannel, they might want to move on to another type. Once washed, the fabric is thin and itchy against the skin, not brushed as described. The fit is so big that it is difficult to find the pockets. There is little trim detail and it is so light, it will not keep me warm this winter. I'm returning the two others that I received as gifts and didn't open. I hope you will bring back the earlier model which had a substantial warm fabric. I have six of them but will always want more.

The flannel that this nightgown is made of is very fuzzy. After several washes, there is still a large amount of lint coming off of it. The earlier versions of this were made of flannel with a flat finish that did not shed lint. This new material is thin and picks up pet hair easily. For these reasons I won't be purchasing again.

Wish I'd read some of the reviews of this nightgown before I purchased one this September! However, I have been buying your Scotch plaid flannel nightgown for many years now (about 1 every 2 to 3 years), and had no reason not to expect to receive the usual quality product I always had in the past. That was decidedly NOT the case. I am extremely disappointed in the changes made to this item. The material is flimsy and inferior in quality, and is constantly shedding lint on my person despite being washed numerous times. And yet the price remains the same as the quality version you used to sell. I can't tell you how disappointed I am, because wearing my L.L. Bean flannel nightgown had always been something I enjoyed on a cold autumn or winter night. This particular version, however, is going in the garbage (I threw out my receipts/packaging before I discovered how shoddy this version of the product had become, or it would have been returned), and I'll be shopping elsewhere going forward.

I have been a devoted & loyal fan of the LL Bean Women's Tartan Flannel Nightgown for over 20 years, usually ordering two gowns each Fall season. I could always depend on top quality flannel and expert construction, with attention to details, such as the collar and yoke, sleeve bands, and band for the buttons, with matching solid cording around these pieces, an attractive feature that also reinforced the stitching.
Last year I ordered two gowns, expecting them to be the same style and have the usual incomparable attention to sewing details. Surprise & shock awaited me when I opened the package from LL Bean!
Poor quality of flannel - itchy, much thinner & loosely woven fabric than I had come to expect over many years, unattractive simplification of the gown pattern (many short-cuts, bulky pockets that bunch on either side of the gown, and an unacceptable quality of construction. The cause of these many changes, I believe, was a change in vendor and country of origin. The previous vendor had five star quality fabric and skilled seamstresses. These past two years, with vendor & fabric changes, have brought multiple complaints from long-standing loyal LL Bean Customers, who are extremely disappointed with this unexpected development.
After the first year of this unexpected fiasco, some of us urged a return to the original gown and fabric, or at the very least, to make available both designs, so that the customers could choose the pattern they preferred - Original Pattern or the new pattern with pockets. This new gown is almost identical in features with the 'Vintage' gown, which I tried but couldn't use. Thus far, there has been no response to our requests.
I returned the gowns I ordered for credit and urge LL Bean to listen to and follow suggestions of consumers of this product, and make some urgent changes in the fabric, original vendor, and the style of this garment! I share the opinions of so many of the reviewers of this item and look forward, hopefully, to the 2019 season! Thank you!

As a many-decade LOS flannel nightie devotee, the only alternative I would ever consider would be from LLBean. Especially since my latest LOS ones have been so disappointing, for these reasons:
* I used to be able to count on them for double-sided brushed flannel that would wear forever - it's usually the fabric at the elbows that would finally wear so thin it would rip. Sadly, as others have noted, they have changed their plaid fabric - the last on I bought is practically the thinness and texture of twill.
* They used to be long [I'm only 5' 3", so that should not be a challenge] and full enough that you can pull the skirt down over your feet [with your knees bent] in bed - crucial on cold winter nights. There is no longer the width in the skirt to do this.
I bring this up in case there are other LOS shoppers who are as disappointed as I and are looking to LLB for a quality alternative. Sadly, there is not a comparable product, either in design or quality of flannel. I like the idea of pockets [#kleenex], but patch ones would do, and the tucks are a nice touch. But a full skirt, collar, and elastic cuffs are a must.
Please, LLB, have Freeport provide what Salzburg no long does!!

So upset! I just received this nightgown as an early birthday present and was so excited since I was gifted the original nightgown a few years back. I love the original nightgown and it seems to have gotten better with age. I wear it all throughout the year, even on cooler summer nights. I was extremely upset to find that this nightgown is really different than the older version. I am completely perplexed as to why LLBean would decide to change the original in the first place. This is going back ASAP. The "flannel" is itchy! The original was soft and cozy warm. This new version has awkward pockets that are not only uncomfortable, but they add the appearance of weight right in the hip area which is extremely unflattering. The original nightgown was so cute, a slimming design and a much better, heavier and warmer quality flannel. I'm so disappointed LLBean!!!! Don't mess with a god thing. I don't understand why companies feel the need to change great products that people love. PLEASE bring the original back. At least give us the option of purchasing the original one as well as this new version with pockets.
