I bought a pair of these for a 500-mile walk through the Pyrenees. On my first training hike a seam split on the outside of the left upper. I returned them and got another pair that I wore for the entire hiking trip. Very comfortable shoe. Altra shoes fit my feet perfectly and these were no exception. The wide toe box is where it's at. They lasted the entire trip with 25-30 pounds on my back and thousands and thousands of meters of climbing and descending on every conceivable surface. Only have two gripes. There's little protection on the front of the toe box, so stubbing your toe on a rock is very painful. From the start the grip was not good in wet conditions and on loose sand/gravel. There were a lot of times I almost fell -- and did fall -- because the shoes slid out from under me on descents. It got worse as the tread wore down. Fortunately no serious injuries, but I learned to be very, very careful on steep, uneven, and wet terrain. It definitely slowed me down on many days. I couldn't imagine running in these on those kind of surfaces. Give me the name shoe with better grip and better toe protection and I'll buy it forever.

These are extremely comfortable shoes. The only flaw is that the traction is pretty much non-existent on wet surfaces.

Fits the way it should, Altra's strong point. Needs aftermarket insole and is sorta goofy looking, Altra's weak points. Comfort and fit win though.

Altra is my new favorite shoe company for the wide toe box and overall comfort. But this model is my least favorite, and after trying 6 different pairs of Altra, I settled on the Paradigm 6 for road walking and jogging and the Olympus 5 for trail running and hiking. What was great about the Lone Peak 6 was that it came in wide (unlike many of the Altra models) and gave a good flexible feel of the ground. However, it had much less cushioning than the other models and felt flimsy. Some other reviewers said it wears out quickly on rugged trails. Weirdly, although I had a wide version, the actual insole width was less than that of the medium insoles on the other Altra models I tried. Finally, the traction on wet tile was abysmal and I didn't like that wide only comes in black. So I returned these and embraced the Paradigm 6 and the Olympus 5 - I love both of those Altras so far (1-2 months)!

Took these hiking for 7 days the Rockies, covered 56 miles with15,000 ft of climb, my feel felt great! Never felt so good hiking - used to wear Merrell MOABs; which lasted for 5 years or more. There were just a couple times i wanted more lateral stability when scrambling over boulders, my feet were moving around a lot more than I was used to in my traditional hikers; and also for this reason my feet felt so much better at the end of the day - I mean a world of difference. They did get a little nicked up on the toe from scraping rocks. I think these could last a couple more big trips like this but they won't be as durable as the MOAB boot. Of course they are much more like trail runners than a hiking boot.

Signature width, fit, etc you know from Altra. Nice and wide. Comfortable. My problems have been on trail races in wet and muddy conditions. Runners nearby have secure footing while I'm sliding across mud. Obviously no shoe can be perfect for all conditions but folks should know this shoe does not thrive in that environment. Great shoe on hard pack trails, gravel, and typical nice conditions. Uppers seem durable against a lot of abuse, but the structure of the shoe has started to decline after about 100 trail miles. I still like them and zero drop works for me so I'd still recommend them with caveats.

Altra LP 6's - Mens 9.5 - Fit well, took them on a recent Yosemite trip, have hiked over 100 miles & > 11k in elevation, shoes feel good however, I was slipping coming down from the half dome cables and feel more confident in my Continental sole'd shoes from a different MFG when it pertains to grip. Perhaps a slightly unfair condition as it was very steep and very slick, but that's when I hoped to rely on great grip from new shoes the most. Other than that, I've enjoyed them very much and will probably purchase again if they continue to hold up.

I've had these LP6 for about a week. I wear them casually, at the gym, and for cycling. So far so good. Two gripes. They feel a little larger than my regular size, I am normally comfortable in a 9, these seem a full size too long. The width is good. Next gripe is the instep is quite tight and made the top of my foot very sore. It seems to be relaxing a little. Not sure I would purchase again.

Took the shoes through 3 National parks in Utah and they performed extremely well. You can hardly feel any rocks or bumps in the trails. The only thing I didn't like was that the shoe felt half a size bigger. I'm normally a size 8 but these shoe felt loose in the toe area and my feet would slide forward going down the trails. I think half a size down would've been perfect. I don't think I can return them so I might purchase a different color down the road.

I knew Altra was k own for the large toe box, but the actual shoes were way too wide for my average feet; I swam in the front of the shoe. Like the style, but sent back...ya gotta have wide feet to make these work in my view.

I like these fine, with a couple of caveats. Needs a lacing-pattern FAQ, and the laces are too short for a double knot on top of heel-lock lacing. Annoying.

was too big for size but very comfortable. Would like them to get more wide sizes in so I can buy a pair that fits.

POSITIVE: comfort. style. just the right amount of padding B4 I try to transition to zero drop barefoot. colored sole great vs white sole that gets stained too easily. I've become accustomed to the WIDE toe box look and learned to like the style. NEGATIVE: too wide, marked M, which normally works for me, but my feet slide around in these Lone Peak 6s like it is Wide.

The fit and feel really are the best I've come across. The sole seems to wear quickly, that's my only gripe. I would love to see this show with a Vibram sole.

LOVE this shoe. I trail run about 25-30 miles a week in Austin. The grip is good, great comfort. I am having some of the accent material peeling after only about 40 miles, but it does affect the shoe at all - just a looks consideration with I don't really care about. I would definitely recommend and purchase the Lone Peak 6 again.

Hands down one of the most comfortable, out of the box, shoes I've ever owned. Build quality seems solid, and they are light as a feather. So far my only complaint would be that the sole in the heel feels a bit thin. The ground around here can be a bit rocky, and sometimes I feel like I notice the rocks poking a bit. We'll see how long they last as I walk and hike a ton. So far, all in all, great shoe and would buy again.

I use these shoes for running hiking and backpacking and absolutely love them. I don't believe that one needs "ankle support" personally and they are by far the most comfortable hiking shoe I've ever worn , I don't even think to take them off in camp because of how comfortable they are! I have one complaint - the treads don't last long and should be vibram soles!!!

It's in the title, I have earlier versions and the straps keep breaking. Maybe this one is better because those (two pairs) broke really early in the shoe's life, other than that, the shoes are great.

Love these shoes because they fit my feet so well. I just wish the tread held up a little longer. I put about 35 to 40 miles a week and within a month the tread worn to the warning track.

My work boots are custom at around a 11.5ee on the left and an 11e ish on the right, I transitioned to these from a pair of super burnt brooks cascadia's Uber abruptly before an off the couch trail relay. After talking to a PCT thru hiker in camp, I was nervous to run in them as I hadn't worn them save for trying them on in a (hopefully soon to be worker unionized) corporate member owned co op (you know). My previous cascadias had exacerbated some distance cycling/distance running/work (long hikes with lots of weight in logger heels) related Achilles/arch/knee alignment/it band/hip flexor/psoas/general alignment issues that I had last season. When I heard they hiker bud talking about how PCT trail noobs were blazing into trail miles and having lots of issues with arch/Achilles, I got anxious and consoled myself by thinking I could switch back to the cascadias if my first trail leg (3.7mi) was anything but rad. It wasn't anything but rad, it rocked. Subsequent 1500+' 6mi trail legs revealed that these things are great. Only place where they didn't far surpass the comfort and confidence of (4 or 5 pair) cascadia's was the whole 3/4"- rock over hard pack on steep descents, but it was still plenty manageable. Can't wait to see how these hold up over the 1,2,300mi marks.

I had an older version of the Altra Lone Peak, I think 4.5. I feel like the quality of the older version was a little better. I also liked the shoelaces of the old version better too. The new ones don't have the attachment for the gators it looks like you use the shoelace. I won't use that until this winter so won't know if it works as well. Wow, lots of complaints. Otherwise its a great trail sneaker.

my initial thoughts when comparing the lone peak 6 to the 5 is the difference in material. The 6 seems to be entirely made of the mesh material which I think is awesome however I find it strange that there seems to be a plasticy screen printed design on them which I personally feel like will eventually peel off? Maybe not though? They came yesterday and I put them right on and went for a 5 mile hike. My feet . Felt. GREAT! Unlike the lone peak 5s where my feet felt like they were swollen after the first few miles but these.. its like they're already broken in. Granted I only have 24 hours on them, I am in love with them and might like them more than the 5s. When I was picking mine out from moosejaws website my boss was like "yo those shoes are awesome im looking for new shoes" and he also bought a pair. I got the orange ones and they look SO good! Me and my dog are going to be SO fly on the trail this year since the orange/yellow lone peaks match her harness and collar 10/10
