These are possibly the greatest running shoes I’ve owned. Everyone is different so here’s my story - I’m extremely picky about running shoes. Not because I’m a snob, but because it usually takes quite a few tries to find a pair that don’t make my feet hurt. I’m 6’ 1” and 205 lbs. I have sensitive feet and do not like arch support. I run mostly on my forefoot and run 2-3mi at a time. Most times a new shoe, especially one with lots of “support” will feel good while I stand there, but a few minutes into a run my feet feel like either 1) they are in a vice or 2) I’m running with a tennis ball under my foot.
My daily shoes are vans or innov8 zero drop shoes. I like being barefoot most of all.
I’ve tried running in zero drop shoes, and while me feet are ok, my knees don’t like it. (Did I mention I’m 42?)
That brings me to these Altras. They are the shoe for me. A flattish sole, wider toe box, and still plenty of koosh to soak up hard pavement. While I bought these for trail and beach running, I have a stretch of road I run to get to the beach. After a few runs I can say that these shoes handle any terrain. Id recommend them for road running as well. I love that the treads grab onto loose trails while not feeling like I’m running in cleats when I hit the pavement. It’s also nothing for me to keep these shoes on all day after a run. That was never the case before.
Like I said in the beginning. Everyone is different. But if you find yourself in my position, where you don’t want crazy arch support but still need a comfy ride, you should at least give these a shot. Game changer for me.

This is my 3rd Altra Lone Peak and am moving up from the LP4.5 to the LP6.
I moved to a zero drop/Altra option a few years ago after 20+ years of wearing orthotics. I had a lot of pain and issues with plantar fasciitis and then moving to a zero drop shoe with toe socks, toe spacers and metatarsal pads has significantly helped in eliminating my plantar fasciitis issues ( a big shout out to my local Podiatrist for the change!).
My primary uses for the LP's are for hiking, walking, light running, and the gym. Every version I have owned to date has been of great service for my needs and each version was a significant improvement over the last version I owned.
I have now had the LP6's for a few days and they have been incredible. I have test driven them at the gym and outside for about 10 miles or so. Out of the box, the fit, comfort and flexibility is the best yet. I have been using them with my toe socks, toe spacers and metatarsal pads.
I find the stride comfortable and quick, the fit is like a glove with good heel lockdown and enough fit and comfort in the mid foot and fore foot. The toe box is roomy and comfortable (something I struggled with in the LP5). The combination of the midsole cushion, upper materials and the reinforced toe box and toe surround should hopefully provide for longer life. With regards to the outer sole itself, it appears to be grippy like earlier LP's but not as much as maybe a Vibram sole. In terms of sole durability only time will tell.
Thanks Altra for listening to your loyal consumer base and making a lot of the changes that now make the LP6 the best yet!

These shoes are great on fit and cushion. I have flat feet and these are truly a blessing. The zero drop feature and wide toe box out perform any shoe I've ever owned. I am so thankful for the Lone Peak style. I just did a long moderate to difficult hike and these shoes performed perfectly in every area. I will be ordering more.

LP-6 mens 11.5 wide(that is Altar wide) not necessarily ergonomically correct and Oblique toebox and forfoot, somewhat restricted compared to, Softstar & Be-lenka. I wish Altra would kick it into gear. They are less, but much better than normal uniform footwear for law enforcement(Or anyone that has to wear a black shoe boot at their job) would be nice if they made more shoes in the wide width make them even "more wider" not the heel area but the foefoot toebox.

I'm not sure there's a reasonable way to improve on this design. I hope future renditions simply change the aesthetics and leave the core design and components alone. So far my favorite shoe ever.

I have loved Altras for years and these are by far the best. Just back from a 4 mile walk on sidewalk and they really absorbed the impact. Feet not sore afterwards. Look great too.

This shoe is lightweight, cushy, and amazingly comfy. I love the wide toe box, flat footbed and "foot shaped" design. I've owned two pairs and will keep on buying them.

I'm an avid Altra shoe consumer, and the Fit on the Lone Peak 6 is absolutely incredible Additionally, the color scheme and the stability is unbelievable (so good). Whoever designed these should head up all Altra shoe designs, because these are near perfection. Why did Altra change up the design for the 7, and the color scheme is no where near as good either.

I am doing a flip-flop thru hike of the Appalachian Trail. I am currently crossing from New Hampshire into Maine. I have to climb slippery rock slabs all day. These shoes are saving my butt!

Yes yes yes yes!!! I was an Altra loyalist for so long and was so mad when they changed the shoes making them narrow like the competition.. These are back to the original width true Altra fans know! I plan to buy 3 pairs just in case they decide to go back to the drawing board and mess with the perfect trail shoe! Now I shall look for a road one.

First pair of Altras... used to be a big Topo guy but their latest offerings left me very dissatisfied (they changed whatever formula used to make them work for me) so here I am.
The Lone Peak 6 is awesome! Roomy for days (it's like my feet are living in a mansion of pure goodness without any of the excess), loving the zero drop - I don't want to walk on elevated mushy clouds while I'm still here on Earth, and the fit is perfect.
Coming over from the Topo 5mm drop hasn't caused me any discomfort (as some have said it would) so I have no complaints.
I typically shy away from anything overly popular but in the case of the legions that sing the praises of Altra and specifically the Lone Peak series -- I'm very glad I decided to forego my typical instincts.
Great job Altra - you've gained a new customer.

I'm not a great runner, but this is my second pair of Altra, and I really like the shoe. The color is stunning, and gets compliments. The size 7 is much bigger than a true 7, however, and they do not make a smaller size in men's. I had to add an insert, and now they are heavier. Sooooo... Yes. YES! And no. Please make smaller sizes!

Let me say first that this review is for the LP5, LP6 and the LP5 all weather hiker. You will not find a more comfortable shoe anywhere. I still wear my LP5's and they are holding up ok. My LP5 all weather hikers were junk within 2 months and that is not even wearing them everyday. Holes on both sides of the toe box and the "water proofing" is an absolute joke. My LP6 just got thrown in the trash and had a decent amount of miles but for the price should last way longer. Again you will not find a more comfortable pair of shoes out of the box and if you just need a comfy pair of shoes I recommend them but if you hike or walk or run a good bit find something else.

Not as wide in mid section which my feet are not getting used to, will try the wides but this may be the end of altra for me. Was hoping the new olympus would as good as old, but no same story too narrow.

Perfect shoe. I have no more pain when i hike in these. hoping to find other Altra shoes like this but so far, I am not finding any. This is such an amazing feel in the toebox and the top and sides of my feet. Their other shoes should be modelled after this.

I walk 10 miles per day in them as part of my job as a courier. Mainly on cement, brick, or asphalt. The last shape fits my foot. Noticed decreased foot pain and fatigue the first day I wore them

I bought these as gym shoes and put in some Superfeet insoles (as I have been doing with all my shoes, until recently). This combo was not super comfortable but I've since put in Orthofeet insoles and the combo is a dream. I have a painful bunion on my left foot, so wanted to try Altra shoes to accommodate the natural shape of the foot and these were the only model that came in "Wide". I usually get 4E width in Asics, but these are totally fine and actually a lot more comfortable than the new Asics Nimbus I bought. Could be because the latter are too bendy whereas these don't have too much cushion. I hike with these every day with my dog walking business and play drums in them and am pain free. It won't be long before I get another pair. They look good too. Bottom line is that these shoes really shine with the correct insole.
