This backpack isn't very durable. My 8 year old granddaughter used this for school and the straps have come apart at the top seam.

I bought this for my fourth grade grandson. He doesn't carry a lot of heavy books. The zipper broke midway through the second year of owning it. I have never spent this much money on a school bag and I am greatly disappointed. I bought 4 other school backpacks from LL Bean for the other grandchildren and have not had issues with those. I think this one was just poorly constructed.

Bought this before the start of the school year, half way through the top strap started to rip, then before the end of year it completely ripped. Very disappointed, not the quality I remember. Deciding where to buy a new one for next school year.

When I buy LL Bean backpacks, I expect that they're the quality that will last more than one school year. This backpack was purchased prior to 5th grade and the strap was ripping by the end of the school year. I tried to sew it twice now and am finally at the point that I am going to spend another $100 on a new one. Ridiculous. The rest of the backpack looks great but this is now unusable and of course they changed their return policy. Don't expect their stuff to hold up.

The bag itself is okay quality. Nothing great. Definitely not made they way they used to be! LL Bean quality has really taken a huge dive over the past few years. Unfortunate.

The backpack did a great job for the two years it was in service. But what's disappointing was that it only had two years in service. My son's backpack has been up and running without any problems for 8 years now! That's what we expect out of an LL Bean Backpack. But today, after barely two years of use, my daughter's backpack strap broke right off. Terribly disappointing.

This will be our 3rd backpack. I believe it to be a combination of user and manufacturer error/malfunction, but my 5 year old daughter's backpack had to be returned and replaced due to the zipper being stuck on one of the the flaps that cover the zipper line. Could not get it unstuck.

We have always loved LL Bean and their gear, but this backpack only lasted 20 months. (In comparison I have some llbean bags almost 15 years old). The bag was only used by an 8 yo girl for less then two school years and the zipper stitching broke, making it very difficult to zipper the pocket. I was disappointed that the store wouldn't exchange the backpack. I bought it on sale and still paid $58 in 2022. The attraction to llbean has always been them standing by their craftsmanship and the long longevity of their gear, but that's no longer the case and I will no longer get school bags here.

I have had 3 of these backpacks and inflation is taking is toll here. It is smaller than my previous bags I have owned, but still high in price. The big thing about the Deluxe I like is the 2 water bottle pockets and the 2 large pockets could hold so much. That is not the case with this new bag. Its so small compared to the others I've owned. LL Bean is compromising with not keeping the dimensions the same as the prior bags made.

We bought this back pack for 3rd grade with hopes of using it for 2-3 years. The overall backpack is a great size and quality; however the water bottle pockets started coming apart within 3 months. First it was on one side and then the second side. The top band is fine, but the way it is attached to the mesh material is not a good design. It unraveled on both sides where it is barely attached to the top band. I am now looking for a back pack for two more elementary kids and I know to avoid the mesh water bottle design.

Bought this bag for my 8yo son with very high hopes, but he's a month into school and all he does is complain about the stiff, uncomfortable straps. I've worn his bag home from the bus stop and I have to agree, there is no cushion. They are stiffer than cardboard! I'll be returning and purchasing a new bag for him from another 'L' store whose bags have never let us down!

I grew up in Maine and still have my high school backpack from 20 years ago. I have always been impressed with the quality and durability. However, when I bough this bag for my son and the matching lunchbox both had ripped within months of use. I called customer service and they instructed me to send it in for an evaluation to see if it could be repaired and returned and the process would take weeks. I couldn't let him go that long without a backpack so I had to just buy a new one. Quality has gone way downhill I am very disappointed

Fairly rigid straps very uncomfortable & irritating shoulders & neck. Nice color pattern & volume. Having soft fleece material on bottom layer of straps might increase ease using backpack.

Zipper broke with about six months of use as a daily school backpack. Thankfully it was one of the smaller pockets so my son continued to use for the remainder of the school year. Not the quality we're used to with LL Bean backpacks. Will have to replace for next school year and for the first time in many years we're considering going with a different brand.

I have always loved these bags. I am not sure if quality is declining or we received a dud, but our strap broke. The bag wasn't abused in any way,so this was disappointing.

The backpack is great, and roomy, but a month or two into owning it the straps pulled right out of the seam at the bottom. It was not abused.

My son was very excited about this backpack until the strap fell off 2 weeks into the school year. I sewed it back on and less than a week later the other strap broke off. My son's other LL Bean backpack is still just as good as when purchased 5 years ago. LL Bean has gone way downhill in quality and will no longer be shopping there.

The backpack itself is great but one of the side pockets (water bottle pocket) ripped after two months. Since my child uses it for school every day, we can't wait for the 2-3 week turnaround time for LL Bean to inspect it and possibly provide a replacement. Very disappointing since he won't be able to use it for very long.

This backpack looks great and has nice size pockets for a middle elementary aged kid. The straps, however, are very stiff and not padded at all. My third grader complains that they are uncomfortable whenever he has a heavier load in the bag. I probably should have returned this.

I have bought 2 of these bags because they really hold up. My son has one where the zipper is constantly caught at the top. Neither I nor his teacher could get it open. So, many times it left me scrambling for a back up bag to use that day until my husband would be home to fix the zipper. Kind of embarrasing for the price I paid. My ohter bag is still going strong and never has this issue. Same bag, just different pattern.

This is a nice-looking and well-designed bag. It in fact would be perfect if it held up the way that the old ones did. My 11-year old daughter has been using it for about 4 months and one of the shoulder straps is now about half-way ripped out from the top of the bag. Yes, she carries a full load, but I would expect more from an llbean bag. Be aware that in order to get the company to stand behind this product you are asked to ship it to them for inspection before anything is done. So disappointed.
