We love this backpack. The fabric is so durable and I would buy another, except the zipper is HORRIBLE! Every single day my son comes home from school with the zipper snagged on the fabric and everyday I fiddle with it but I have never had this issue with any of their other bags. We have had it for 2 seasons and now I am throwing it out. I should have returned it after the first few months. I just thought that maybe it was the way he was using it, until my other son switched bags with him and had the same issue.

I ordered two of these backpacks. The backpacks themselves were ok, but in both cases the stitching of the recipient's name was sloppy and unacceptable. One of them was not stitched in a straight line and looked like it had been done by a 7-year-old child, there must be a labor shortage in Freeport, Maine these days. If L. L. Bean is going to charge extra for stitching, the least they could do would be to do an acceptable job. I will have to return both items, a shame. There's no way a 10-year-old kid would walk around with that backpack! I've attached a photo of the not-straight-line stitching

I wanted my daughter to have the same type of backpack I had while growing up. I always loved my LL Bean backpack and it lasted over the years. My daughter was excited to get a backpack from LL Bean. She has had her backpack 3 weeks. The strap at the top that can be used to hang the backpack completely ripped off on one side, so she can't hang her backpack in her locker anymore. Talk about disappointment. It's still able to be carried on her back, but we sad that the quality we've known over the years with LLBean products didn't ring true with this purchase.

I had one of these backpacks as a kid and it made it all through high school with me. It was so durable so I decided to purchase one for my second grader to use. Unfortunately the quality must have gone down as it didn't even last one school year with the small amount of books she carries. The seam on one of the shoulder straps is ripped half way off from normal wear and tear.

The straps are too firm and too narrow. They squeeze at your neck and leave red marks. It's unable to be used as a 2 strap backpack because of this. I have to carry my son's backpack using one strap on his walk to school. Literally defeats the purpose of a backpack. Bad design. But had it customized so can't return. Would not recommend.

I am excited that LL Bean honored the lifetime warranty from a while back, but the strap on the new backpack is already ripping. Very disappointing!

We paid extra to get it to us, over 20$ extra plus we paid extra for her initials. They sent it to us in a great time but the initials are wrong! And now they are trying to get us to pay extra to get it back to us in a timely fashion! I'd advise to avoid this company.

My middle schooler made quick work of what I thought would be a long-term backpack. The pocket tore and the strap ripped off entirely. This happened inside of 8 months but since he's a kid, he didn't think to tell me until the new school year was supposed to start. Hence, we're just outside the 12 month return period.

As my granddaughter grows up, this is her 3rd LL Bean backpack. She has loved each one & the quality is top rated. This is her favorite & I think she has good taste. Thank you, LL Bean.

The stitching at the strap of this backpack came apart from the bag after only 1.5 school years of use. Customer service was very unhelpful, as they require I mail the bag to LL Bean (at my own cost) and then they will assess whether to send a replacement or make a repair. Customers should not expect get multiple years of use out of this bag.

The strap stitching broke after less than a school year of use. I have one from decades ago that's still going strong but the quality has gone downhill. The store closest to us closed so now I have to pay for shipping to return it. Better off buying a cheaper bag you know you'll have to replace every year than spending more counting on it to last. Not a good value like it used to be.

I bought a LLBean backpack and lunchbox for my daughter thinking it would last her a few years as I still have mine from high-school and I just celebrated 25th high-school reunion. I still use mine for traveling. However my daughters did NOT hold up to the same LLBean quality I'm use to. Her buckles on the bag broke, areas are cracked and fraying. The inside of the lunchbox is all cracked..I'm just so disappointed!

In use for only a couple of weeks and the handle strap is already tearing out. Previous LL bean packs this style lasted for years - disappointed and need to return or exchange. I didn't even overload it. Unsure if defective item or quality decreased.

I had high hopes for this backpack, but it proved no match for my 4th grader. Within 3 months, the front pocket zipper broke but still stayed on, within 5 months the main zipper kept getting stuck on the fold-guard and had to literally cut it off so it wouldn't keep getting stuck, by winter break the front zipper came off and we used safety pins to keep it closed, by spring break the main zipper gave up and more safety pins were used to make it to the end of the school year. The water bottle side pocket ripped within the first month, and the back straps were cut off before winter break, so by May the backpack was more than done. Really hoped we could make it to at least the end of the school year but this backpack is no match for a rough 10yo 4th grader boy

My son did not get through one school year with this bag. The side pouch for his water bottle started to rip within three months. The zipper would get stuck intermittently and by May the zipper completely broke as a result.

The handle on this backpack lasted only from August to April. By contrast, my daughter's previous L.L.Bean backpack from 2014 is still fully functional except she has outgrown it. She does not overstuff her backpack and treats her things gently.

I've purchased three of these backpacks over the years for my girls. The bag I purchased for my 8th grader's kindergarten year is still going strong. In 2021, I bought a new backpack because now that the kids were carrying their computers to and from school, they needed external water bottle pockets. I bought a blue and green print in 2021 and then I bought the adorable tie dye style in the summer of 2022, but my daughter opted to use the blue and green one for another year. She decided to start using the tie dye one this fall. She is very gentle with her belongings. The only reason she has additional bags is for activities. And yet, as of December, her bag is unusable and both water bottle pockets are blown out. She doesn't use anything but a standard 16L water bottle. And yet her bag is now unusable and LL Bean apparently no longer stands by its products. I checked the bag I purchased in summer of 2021 and, sure enough, the threads on the water bottle pockets are pulling away there too, although she's gotten a solid two years out of that bag. I'm not sure what has happened since LL Bean stopped honoring the old return policy, but whatever it is, it's not good. Think long and hard before you spend this kind of money on a bag, because it won't last.

I bought this for my daughter in August of 2023. She's in kindergarten so the only things she carries are shoes, extra change of clothes, snow pants, and maybe a library book. The straps are starting to tear away from the back pack.

My daughter has used this backpack for four months and the stitching has come undone. I still have my backpack from LL Bean from 1997. This new one was not made to last. We're disappointed in the poor durability of the backpack. We expected more because L L Bean products used to be known for their quality.
