I purchased this for my granddaughter. Paid the higher price for quality. When the strap fell off on the first day I contacted LLBean saying I had to cut off the one strand left. Their response was not what I expected. I put a screenshot below. You don't always get what you pay for.

While my daughter loves the look of the bag, one of the armstraps has started to pull out before making it through a month of school. This bag is supposed to be heavier duty, and definitely is not high quality. To make matters worse, in order to get a replacement, I have to ship back the damaged one first, leaving my daughter without a backpack for who knows how long - they estimate 2-3 weeks for the receive processing of the return, and another 1-2 weeks for a replacement.

Just over a year with this back pack and the zipper continues to get caught up in the fabric, my daughter whom is in 5th grade went to zip this morning and the zipper went completely into the fabric and off the zipper track.

I purchased this backpack (Periwinkle) for my HS daughter 7/2019. She used it from, roughly, 8/19-12/19, when the grey handle rippled off. It was put aside to exchange and used another backpack until it could be replaced. Then, COVID happened, 3 kids eLearning and all the stress that came; I forgot about calling but wasn't worried because LLBean has always stood by their products. Also, LLBean website said they were closed effective 3/16/20. I've only returned one other backpack due to it being defective. I still have my yellow parka from HS, that an employee at the Maine store tried to get me to exchange b/c it had holes where the pockets were sewn. I couldn't in good conscience exchange b/c I had worn it and it was (at the time) 15 yrs old. I was satisfied with its quality. I purchase new backpacks for my kids every 2 or 3 yrs and give away our old ones. My middle son has his junior original shark bp which has held up to a boy from age 3 to now 11. But this backpack did not hold up for a few months. I called LLBean today, I was told that I will need to send back the backpack and wait until they decide if it is appropriate for them to issue a replacement. If LLBean was closed, does this extent the policy? The quality we've known over the years with LLBean products didn't ring true with this purchase.

I purchased this backpack for my granddaughter on August 1 2019 for the new school year. My children always had LLBean backpacks and they were indestructible. By Christmas 2019 the grey handle was torn and within a week the handle has completely ripped off. I called LLBean today for a replacement and was told that I will need to send back the original backpack and wait until they decide if it is appropriate for them to issue a replacement. What about the 1 year warranty? I live in a different state and will need to print off all the documents and send to them. In the meantime I will also have to purchase a new backpack to replace this one that LLBean claims has a warranty.

I'm very disappointed that I can't put the backpack in the washing machine to clean it. It is made out a plastic fabric with a plastic padding on the inside. I learned it the hard way and will not be getting another one from L L Bean. A product the kids use but can't be cleaned and I can't return the one I have with a rip down the back. So sad.

I bought this for my 8 yr old daughter. She's used it for 3 weeks for school and has a large hole worn through the outside water bottle pocket. I feel like it should have held up longer and better than 3 weeks.
