Love that they added the water bottle holders a while back. I have purchased 7 of these. They are strong enough to last for years. My 7th grade son has had his since 1st grade, my freshman in college has had hers since freshman HS year. They last forever. If you have an issue, I have had 2, they replace it no problem and with our question. The customer service is the best in the business. Keep building great products and don't ever change the customer service, you do things right.

Well made, a host of compartments, you can put anything and everything in this bag and I have.

I ordered the Deluxe Bookbag for my 8 year old and it is the perfect size. He says that it is comfortable. He got to personalize it and loves it!

Bought this backpack for my 10 year old granddaughter. Had it personalized, which she loved. Very well made and is very sturdy with plenty of room for books and supplies. Made so much sturdier than some of the backpacks in the stores. My older grandchildren who have had LL Bean backpacks were able to use them for a number of years, Definitely would recommend.

"Mom most of the smart kids have LL Bean backpacks" my teen commented one day after school last year. All five of my children have been using this Deluxe backpack since elementary school. Three are now in college with two still in high school. They like having this backpack they can rely on for its durability, comfort, storage, & compartments. My 20 year old still uses hers from 5th grade. The only replacements made over the years was one due to skateboard ravelling nylon strap, another reason was worn bold pattern chosen in elementary school no longer suited for high school (so choose a solid color) & extremely heavy high school textbooks won the battle against the zipper. So five kids, nine years later with only 3 replacements makes me a satisfied customer of the LL Bean Deluxe Backpacks! Very grateful for the company in making quality products to last which means less backpacks in landfills from our family.

My middle school son used the same LL Bean backpack every year from first grade to fifth grade and it's still in great condition. Bought a new one to reflect school colors at his middle school in sixth grade. All zippers perfect, no rips or tears. Only complaint I have is the reflective material began to peel a bit, but I still use the bag for outings and the beach. My younger son had the smaller size for kindergarten and first grand and it literally still looks new. We upgraded him to the bigger size this year. The only backpack to buy for rough, active kids.

Have had my current backpack going on 5 years and it has been through a lot. No signs of damage, wear and tear, nothing to show it's age. It's my work bag as well as occasional travel bag. Compartments protect my tablet as well as assorted odds and ends. You can't go wrong with this purchase.

Bought my first LL Bean pack in 1984. It performed through middle school, high school, and college. These things are amazingly tough! Love the roomy sections and the organizer for pens/pencils/accessories in the front pouch. The upgrades for electronic devices are a great touch. Looking forward to my second pack giving my 10+ years of service. Thank you LL Bean for such great products! P.S. I do wish you still offered the leather bottom option. Miss that....

Not only do my kids love this bag, it also is the perfect work backpack for me. I can easily pack my laptop, work supplies, LL Bean lunch bag, and everything else I need for my work day. I can also use this backpack for a weekend getaway. It is more than just a backpack for kids!!! Love love love this backpack!!!

My son has had the same backpack since preschool. He's now a fifth grader in a new school (a private school) and it was time for a new backpack. This one seems perfect! It's roomy and hopefully it'll be sturdy (he's only used it for a couple of weeks so far). I love the block monogram we got. It's nice and masculine, not too noticeable, but it'll be great to help him keep up with the pack. He said several kids at his school had the same backpack, so it is a popular choice!

I have always used L.L. Bean book bags and I still have the one I used during middle school-college. I got this book bag to use specifically for work. I'm a nurse and have many items that need to be carried in and out of work each shift. So far, it's worked great for me and my purposes. I remember my zipper in my old bag used to get caught all the time, but so far the zipper on this new one has held up great. Great quality product! Also, shipping was very quick and that was including extra time for a monogram add on (which is also great quality!)

Roomy, solid,organized and has a better water bottle pocket than most. Light enough for my third grader, but will last until whatever age we choose to use it.

My grandson donated his last year's LL Bean backpack to his school for another child to enjoy. My daughter asked me to order a new one which I did as a surprise for him. He was so overjoyed and happy with his new backpack. It is strong and very well made. And has sufficient room for all of his books.

most years with my son in school, we have gone through a minimum of 2 backpacks. they rip, zippers break, straps snap, etc. the moment that this backpack was taken out of the package we could tell a complete difference. this is very well made, and extremely durable. we are interested to see the shape that it is in at the end of this year!

3rd kid, 3rd backpack Would never buy anything but an LLBean backpack. It's just which one to buy. If they want a different one we just hold on to old because it's still good for years to come. They pay for the second one;)

It was time to retire the LL Bean shark backpack that my youngest has had since kindergarten and get a larger backpack to accommodate his high school work load. These packs are so durable. My older son has one that looks new but is 3 years old. So it was a natural choice. Perfect for school, then big enough to be a weekender bag to stuff with clothes, fishing gear and other things needed for a weekend camping. Love these bags!

My daughter is starting middle school this year and wanted a backpack that was more "mature" than the LL Bean one I bought her when she was in 2nd grade, which had a cute print. She initially decided to go with a more "fashionable" brand, knowing I would not replace the bag for 3 years. Well the "fashionable" bag arrived and was really cute, but after touching the fabric and using the zippers my daughter decided to return it because it was just not up to her standards after owning a Bean bag for the last 4 years! These bags are built to last and even an 11 year old can tell how different they are from the average backpack sold at most stores. I got her the brilliant blue color and she loves it! It's bright and a little shiny, so it catches the light beautifully. The pockets are built for organization. I love the way the tech pocket is attached at the top of the bag to keep the stuff in it from get jumbled around in the bottom of the bag. This bag will definitely take my daughter all the way through middle school and possibly through high school. I still have my Bean backpack that I carried all through high school, college, and graduate school so I know these bags last and last!

I'm already in love with this backpack. The navy actually has a neat, subtle iridescence to it, so that the backpack is timeless without being boring or stodgy. I also really like how it has two drink pockets as well. The book pack is extremely spacious, and the monogramming looks very nice without being ostentacious. I have yet to say on longetivity, but I bought this book pack because I wanted something practical and durable, and I've heard nothing but good things about this one from clasmates and online reviewers alike. I can't wait to bring it to college, and beyond! The only thing that I recommend is a wider range of colors; this would look stunning in yellow, and I'd love for LL Bean to bring back the soft/carnation pink!

I love that LLBean added the drink pockets on the side of the back pack. This has been needed for years. Super convenient.

We love these book packs! However, what I would like to see is more colors for boys or just more gender neutral colors. My son doesn't want dahlia purple or mint. So his choices in the prints and solid colors currently available for this deluxe bookpack are black, navy or red... Even the prints that use more gender neutral colors like the orange prism he sees as still a bit feminine for him, and he is not a camo kid.

This book bag is great. They last a long time if you take good care of them and they have a lot of room for you to put all of you school supplies. All these color choices are great. But, I wish you'd over us more colors to pick from like Sky Blue, Lime Green, Plum, Orange, Green, Sliver, Yellow, and some of the other colors that you offered back in the 90's and early to mid 00's.

I liked all the organizations interior and exterior pockets. Having the side pocket for water bottles, etc., is an excellent feature. Also like the color selection and affordable price. Hope to use this backpack on outings with my grandson.

The one I bought was 7 years ago so may be slightly different. But mine has lasted me every day for all of middle school, high school, college, and grad school without any breakage. Also lasted as a perfect sized carry-on for when I went abroad. Highly recommend!!

This L.L. Bean Deluxe Book Pack is exactly what I was looking for, as I head off to the library for a day's worth of studying to do and a lot of books, plus a water bottle stowed on each side. The pack doesn't get five (5) stars, though, because its straps are a little tough to cinch up (at least they are for me, and adult male) and also, I'm minus a water bottle somehow, after stowing my large Yeti in one of the side pockets. I don't think that it fell out, but I live in NYC, and it's always possible that someone just lifted it out of the side water bottle mesh pocket that I had the Yeti in. If I replace the Yeti, maybe I'll get the smaller version to fit better in the mesh side pockets of this pack, and not stick out so much.

The online picture of this bag looks mauve to my eye. When it arrived the color is very different. It's a grayish shade of lavender. It's not uglyit's okbut not what I expected. I haven't carried it yet so I can't speak to the quality but I've been buying LL Bean for years and never had any issues with quality. If you're considering the bag that looks mauvejust knowit isn't mauve.
