Last time I bought I deluxe bookpack was probably 2004, and at that time it was fairly unchanged from the ones I bought through the 90s. I've held on to that one and used it periodically through the years when I worked at camps or traveled or hiked. This past weekend I went away and pulled my old trusty bag off the shelf. I forgot how much I loved it and how easy it was to organize, and it made me realize how frustrated I've been with my single-water bottle holding jansport. I thought on the way home "if they make this bag with two water bottle holders now, I'd never need another bag." Thanks to the future we live in, I got a targeted ad for this bag THE NEXT DAY! With great coupons to boot! I ordered it immediately and boy was I pleasantly surprised when it came in! Everything is better than you remember. The straps curve and have more cushion. There's a waist strap. There's a laptop sleeve in the main compartment. There's an iPad or otherwise screen friendly fleece lined sleeve in the second compartment. The reflectors are... different, and I assume use a better technology. There are two water bottle holders that are big enough to hold my 32 oz nalgenes. The bottom appears reinforced. I'm so excited. I'll use it for hiking and the beach and traveling. I'm in my 30s. My husband ordered one immediately when I opened it. Don't hesitate. Buy it!!!

I have purchased three backpacks for my son during his time in school all these years; they have all been from LLBean. The ONLY reason I have had to purchase new ones is because he simply wants a new design / color. His last backpack he has carried for the last two years and it has zero tears and nothing is broken on it. Sure, it could use a good wash, but that's because the boy is ROUGH! I keep coming back to LLBean because the quality of their merchandise is unsurpassed. I highly recommend their backpacks!

Great quality backpack - color and monogram awesome!

I love this backpack for my kids! My 13 year old has had the same one for five years and it looks brand new still and has no rips even starting. My 9 year old has had the same one since kindergarten. Just ordered my kindergarteners first one! Seriously buy this backpack!!! You will love it and save money in the long run not having to buy a new one year after year.

I brought this for my son when his was stolen. He and my daughter have had one since junior high school! My daughter uses hers when traveling and she has 2 children now! You won't wear it out but I can't guarantee someone won't take it!!

This backpack is well made and very comfortable shoulder straps. I don't carry school books, just a lot of this and that's so it has enough space plus my laptop fits well if I need to take it with me. It's a great value for years of wear. Had one before this one too from LL Bean.

I bought this for my 2nd grader as I didn't want to upgrade in a few years and wanted something classic that she could carry hopefully through most of her school years. It's a tad big but she loves all the room inside. So many pockets for all of her school stuff and her "treasures". She's able to put her lunch and two jackets inside with her school stuff. Love the water bottle pockets which have come in handy this year. My daughter is now using her bookbag for camp and it holds her towels and everything she needs for the day with room for more. Glad we chose this bookbag!

I bought this backpack for my son when he started second grade. He just completed 7th, using this bag every school day, and some during the summer. His last few years the bag was loaded down full. It has held up wonderfully. No zipper issues, no rips, no blown seams. I'm posting a picture of it right after I got it cleaned out from school year stuff. Other than some scuffs and dirt (hadn't washed it yet), it looks great. I wash it after each school year and occasionally other times during the school year (especially after lunch leaked in it). The only reason he won't use it next year is because of new size regulations on backpacks. If I knew it would last this long, I probably wouldn't have put his name on it. I feel that may be too kiddish for high school, though he was perfectly fine with it in 7th grade. I only wish the design from when I bought it had the water bottle pockets. Keep up the good work L.L. Bean!

I bought 3 of these for my 2 daughters & myself in the 1990s when they were in 3rd & 5th grade, I think. They are in their 30s & we are just now replacing them. They still are great bags, but look tired as we have all used them a LOT all these years for school, travel, camping & more. We are replacing them with the same new ones...just different colors!

Very well made, I use it for work and stuff 5 water bottles, snacks, clothes and a bunch of smaller things. I plan on using it for school too! Very happy with my purchase.

I think I owned my previous L. L. Bean Deluxe Book Pack for more than 10 years. It recently ripped open where the strap connects to the lower back part of the pack, so it wasn't a really easy fix, because of "wear & tear". OK, the pack was also starting to look worn, too... :-) So, that's why I ordered a new one - and I'm happy with the new pack, so far. The style looks good and works for me, carrying lunch & a water bottle & small umbrella & other things, for work or various other little trips. Keep up the good work, L. L. Bean! Thank you!

My parents bought this same bag for me when I was entering middle school in 2005; Back then, you could customize them in any color you wanted and I certainly did so. That bag survived both my middle school and high school careers. After school, I toured the United States as a professional musician and I used this bag as my carry-on for probably 70,000 or 80,000 miles of travel on planes, vans, and busses going through 40 states. It is STILL in good, usable shape and I intend to continue using it until there is nothing left... Then, I'll have it replaced under warranty and use the next one into the ground, too!!

My 12 year old grandson loves this bag with his name monogrammed on it! It's large enough to hold all of his books and more.

I absolutely love this bag! It's the perfect bag for everyday use, and it even has pockets for all my gadgets including a sleeve for my laptop! I mainly use it as an overnight bag or to take it with me to work, but I also use it as a daypack for hiking as well because it provides easy access to my water bottles with the mesh pockets on the sides. I would definitely recommend this bag to anyone I know!

I have two of these backpacks - one for travel (toiletries, books, electronics, you name it!) and one for a work bag. Water bottle holder is good, keeps water bottles secure. Padded handles are great when it's loaded down to cushion the weight. I purchased both on sale at separate times, during end of summer, back to school sale. They hold a lot and the different sections help you stay organized. It's like having a mini-office with you or a mini-home in a bag. They wear well and my older one is about 5 years old and looks brand new, no color fade and no wear and tear showing. Reflective strip is great safety feature. LL Bean school bags last a lifetime. That said, my 7th grader was ready for an updated LL Bean backpack from the one he's been carrying since Kindergarten. The side pockets on this bag are such a great addition and every pocket is perfect for everything he needs. I don't expect he'll need another bag until he goes off to college. And maybe not even then. His old LL Bean bag has been repurposed to carry soccer gear, it's still going strong!!

I purchased this backpack for my daughter to use in college. It is roomy and well made. She is able to fit her books, computer and water bottle on the side pocket. She is pleased with the backpack.

I got this backpack in 5th grade after trying cheap ones for my elementary school years and I'm finally retiring it in 10th grade! 5 years of brutal use. This poor bag has been over stuffed, drenched in rain and snow, thrown around, and just tortured. I am retiring it because the seam attaching the front pocket came un done and a little hot glue from art class is all that's holding it together at the moment. I just ordered a super deluxe and I'm hoping it will last me through college and graduate school. Great product! Worth the few extra dollars for years of standing up against ware and tare.

I loved the features. My grandson wanted water bottle holders and just discovered the waistband snap.. He started 1st grade this year and is so proud of his LLBean backpack. Thank you .. It was all that he asked for at Christmas and was so excited.

I love my new backpack. It has so much room for all my books. I appreciate the small pouch that is useful to organize all my pens, pencils, calculator and other school supplies.

It was black and a gift for someone from Italy. It was gorgeous!

I honestly could not ask for more. I was searching for a mid year school backpack after the new one we bought at the beginning of the school year finally failed, the quality "dryness" Yes! spacious yes, reasonably priced definitely. When you open the package and see everything you get for the price you'll feel like you stole it lol.

Well, here we are! FOUR AND A HALF YEARS after buying this backpack for my then rising 5th grade daughter. She has been absolutely brutal to this poor bag and it is still usable!! No rips or seams coming undone, just slight wear and tear. For Christmas, she asked for a new one. She told me that nothing was wrong with her old one, she just wanted another color. How could I say no to that??? I bought her another LL Bean book bag, of course! This new one will most likely go to college with her! The quality is unmatched. I bought her Kindergarden brother one at the same time and he is still using his. He likes the print of his so I will wait to replace his. I can't stress enough how well made these things are!! Worth every penny!!

I ordered this bag for my husband to take on a trip. When it came, I thought the white mesh side pocket looked homely, kind of like white underwear sticking out. Couldn't they have made the pocket match the bag? But my husband returned from his trip raving about how sturdy and practical the bag is, so I'm giving it 5 stars for usefulness.
