Thought it would be a mid weight but much lighter. Sleeves a little short Also, want to voice a complaint about the order process. I ordered one evening on December 7. Within 7-8 hours a discount of 20% showed up on my email or website. I had just placed the order and should have benefited from the sale price. We purchase all of my husband's clothing through L L Bean and find this irritating. We spend a great deal over the years and should benefit as a loyal client.

This jacket is surprisingly warm and versatile, especially for its thinness and pack-able design. It has been my go-to jacket since I bought it. It really works from the 30s to the 60s all on its own. Unfortunately as a couple other reviews have stated the material is much weaker than one would expect form a Bean product. There a bunch of little micro tears in the shell exposing the insulation, and I have had the jacket for less than a year. I follow the care guideline to a T, and I work in an office so it's not like it sees a lot of abuse. Nonetheless, the jacket has developed these little tears near the seams and hem and it appears to be generally wearing out already. Extremely surprised by this jacket....pleasantly, by its warmth and versatility...disappointingly, by its less than expected quality.

This jacket is much lighter than I expected and does keep me mostly warm. I did wear it under some layers of football gear for a tailgate party for a Bills game and I was still cold. The temperature was in the 30's and I was still cold. I wouldn't trust the numbers they post for warmth on this jacket. It also runs small unlike many other L.L. Bean items. I order X-Large just to give myself some extra room and it is still too tight for my liking around the chest when zipped and seated. I can live with it and I need to lose more weight so maybe that will help when I achieve more weight loss. If you wear a L, I recommend the XL to give yourself a more comfortable fit.

Bought this jacket for a trip. I ordered a Large like I did with all the ll bean jackets before. It arrived fast and as described. The jacket is very light weight, not much bulk nor substance at all. The warmth is about same as a 650 down fill jacket. Depends on your preference, you might or might not like it, but it works. I LIKE it. I wore it on 8-10 degree C all days in Lima/ Cusco with a t-shirt underneath. I did not feel the warmth (like the down jacket) but did not feel cold either. I have not try it in lower temp yet. On the way to Ballestas island on a speed boat, I can feel some chill come thru the jacket. I am going to return this jacket because the fit is not right. When Fully zipped, the chest is tight, the shoulders/arms movement are very restricted. I am afraid might rip off the stitches under arm if I tried hard. The rest of the jacket fit me fine. I could exchange it for Extra large, but at this price point, I expect proper fit for my size.

Bought a large tall hoping it would be tall fitting. The tall fits like a regular in other brands and is quite fitted. Not the best if you are planning on wearing this over a sweatshirt. The arms are longer than expected as well. The jacket is super lightweight which is nice and parkway feature is convenient. My biggest complaint is the quality of the stitching. I found the insulation pushing out of the seams which is becoming more apparent as the jacket wears. Not what I expected from a $170 base layer jacket. L.L. Bean could have done better with the quality and fit on this one.

This is a stylish jacket that is very handy for airline travel in that it is so compact and light weight. The salesman told me it was good to -15F. No way! Don't get stuck outdoors for any length of time with just this jacket to protect you.

Nice light weight jacket, but no way keeps you warm to -15. I was cold cross country skiing at +10.

I was so excited this fit perfectly. My teen son is super slim and tall, with monkey arms. This fit incredibly! He needed a jacket that was warm, but could be stuffed in his school backpack all day. Kids these days don't use lockers! He was shocked at how warm it was, for being so thin. Unfortunately he wrecked it after only having it for two days!! He put three tiny tears down the front, by carrying a load of wood in the house. I would have expected more from a Bean jacket. I'm bummed. It's so hard to find things that fit him so well. For the record, he tried on a medium in the regular size, and the arms were too short, and it was not long enough. Tall is the way to go if you are long limbed.

I should have read the reviews with a more critical eye. I also found this jacket to be too thin (I thought it was just compressed from shipping, but it never became "poofy" as one expects of this style of jacket. It also failed to provide adequate warmth. On 40 degree days in Oregon I was cold wearing the coat over a T-shirt and long sleeve button down shirt. My single layer LLBean fleece jacket is warmer. On the plus side, the design and build are very nice - great pockets, zippers, size.

I typically wear a large but ordered an XL because of the reviews and description saying it was fitted. I highly recommend ordering a size larger than you normally do if you intend to wear any thicker layers underneath (e.g. a fleece). I love that it fits in its own pocket. This is phenomenal for air travel when you don't want to carry a bulky jacket. I've tested the jacket in both Massachusetts and along the (entire) coast of Norway. It is minimally water resistant and minimally wind resistant compared to a shell. If you are in wet snow or sleet a lot, buy a different jacket. You need to use the drawstring at the bottom to help trap the heat better. I wish the wrist opening diameter was adjustable. The jacket is great if there isn't a strong breeze. I wear it every day walking 2+ miles home from work and it works very well. Norway was a little too windy and slushy for this jacket to handle, but I suspect it will do well in snow with temperatures under 30 degrees. Overall, I think this is a good jacket that is functional and has useful features. However, I cannot have this jacket as my only winter jacket because I need something that can handle wet snow and 30+ mph winds.

I was very disappointed by this jacket's warmth. At 30degrees and a layer underneath it was fine. This morning walk with dog 15 degrees and windy I had a T-shirt regular cotton shirt and fleece jacket as layers under coat and could easily feel the cold coming through. If I had been out more then 20 minutes I would have been very cold. Frankly I am surprised that LL Bean would promote this coat.

Really like the jacket and it fits great in the body but the sleeves are way too short to be considered a tall size. I don't typically have issues with sleeve length with most brands, especially in tall sizes but these I'd guess are 34-35" in length vs 36-37" which is typical for most tall sizes. They are actually shorter than most brands non tall sizes which is very odd. It is a very warm jacket though considering how little bulk there is to it.

This Men's PrimaLoft Packaway Jacket looked excellent on me. I loved the way the jacket folded into its own pocket, the drawstring to tighten the waist, and the zippered pockets. However, it did not keep me warm enough. I was wearing a tee-shirt and a long-sleeve polo shirt over that, and I still felt a chill with this jacket on. The temperatures ranged in the 30s and 40s, and I wore the jacket during the day and at night. I regretted returning this jacket because it looked so good on me. But I couldn't justify spending this much money on a jacket that didn't keep me warm enough.

Test run in Blowing Rock, NC last weekend. At 30 degrees (with 25 m/hr winds) with a long sleeve T and light wool sweater underneath it kept me warm. At 18 degrees (no wind) and a long sleeve T plus a heavier wool sweater underneath, still comfortable. But, unless you're a Mainer who thinks 32 degrees is shorts and flip-flops weather, I think you'll need to layer up with thermal undershirts plus a heavy weight sweater to stay warm in temps below the teens.

My husband likes this jacket, but it is not particularly warm - good to maybe 40 degrees. He is a bit on the portly, short side, but the size medium was a bit tight through the body, but plenty long in the sleeves.

Great jacket. Good style, well made, perfect pockets, folds down for travel. Lightweight and comfortable. Would give it five stars, except that while it is rated from +35 to -15, at +30 degrees, it is NOT Warm without layering a heavy sweater or more clothing underneath. Can't imagine that it would work well under zero degrees. A nice spring or fall jacket. My old puffy jacket from LL Bean which is rated the same for cold, actually works fine in winter temperatures, so I was surprised that this did not. I guess I will continue to use the old one when it's cold, and save the primaloft for warmer weather in spring and fall. Too Bad, was liking the whole concept of this jacket.

I like the overall features of the jacket. Unfortunately, the seam that joins the arm to the body is thick and stiff. This causes irritation to my underarms. I am 6', 144lbs with a 40" chest. I bought the large size. The fit seems okay except for the stiff seam. I will be returning the jacket.

Yet again missed the fine print "slightly fitted" and will be returning this great jacket. Slightly fitted really means "not true to size"and you need to move to the next size larger if you can and if the shoulders won't be too big then. Bean needs to get over the slightly fitted thing or they will lose their "slightly older"customers. Isn't it a hint that so much of the clearance or sale things are slightly fitted? This is a great jacket though at a great price point.

My wife gave me this jacket for Christmas. It fits well and looks good but it is much lighter than I expected a "Warmer" jacket to be. I recently wore it on a business trip and even with a fleece vest, long sleeve shirt, and t-shirt on I froze. Our temps in TN were in the high 30's low 40's earlier in the week and I thought this jacket was plenty since I was going to be in and out of my truck. Not so! I think more insulation would help without sacrificing packable feature. If I had a do over, I would opt for down filled rather than NASA technology. I'm still a Bean fan but this jacket is mis-classified and would be fine with a warm rating.

The jacket is very lightweight and well made. However, it's also not warm. Not sure what the other reviewers are comparing this too - it's about half the warmth of, say, a Nanopuff. It's too bad because the jacket has all the weight of the fabric, zipper, etc and very little insulation. You could double the insulation with little added weight and little bulk because the insulation is very thin, and end up with a decently warm jacket. Please do this LL Bean - I would buy it!
